  1. I would imagine they are thought of on nearly different planes from each other, only slightly less so than shortstop and first-base prospects are when looking at the infield. If the team finds itself suddenly in need of a power bat in the OF, Palka gets the call, while Granite is the one if a glove-first CF is the need; neither one is the complete package.
  2. When the phone call comes, I hope he can do a good Lurch impression. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=an_by5r8EUc
  3. Moderator's note: may I suggest taking out the personal asides as you discuss this?
  4. Moreover, most humans can't throw the ball 90 MPH. I am Jose Berrios's height but I can't fling it like he does. Perhaps Tyler Robertson and Aaron Slegers already are leveraging the maximum that their height (and the presumably proportionately sized limbs) gives them.
  5. I fixed it in the Forums version. I don't have edit permission on the Article version. A quirk of the system, it seems.
  6. I can't see this website either.
  7. Via snail mail, yes. It started around when I got married. The sysadmin still hasn't tracked down the cause.
  8. Typically the first cuts are of the highest-ceiling non-roster guys, to get them to the proper group where they'll receive more in-game reps after having rubbed elbows with the major leaguers for a few weeks. These moves all seem in keeping with that.
  9. To me, Buxton's swing during the last several weeks of the season suggests that he is lobbying for the #3 hole, not leadoff.
  10. I guess that counts as a correction, on the Twins starting staff.
  11. Most years the average starter has an ERA+ under 100. It's the nature of the role. Doesn't make him an ace, but #5 is way undervaluing that kind of production.
  12. Boston Globe has a thriving cluster of them, catering to all interests. I like the "108 Stitches" baseball one - it's Red Sox oriented of course.
  13. The backup catcher needs to be on-call for far more than 16-20 starts a season, even with an All Star as the starter, which we don't have. Coincidentally, we have such a comparison to look at - 2008 Joe Mauer was rested for 28 starts, and as a 25-year old that was his high water mark as a starter. Appearances by a third catcher, if that's what you really have in mind, in fewer than two dozen games doesn't move the needle on winning lots more games, and amounts to more of a publicity stunt if done using Mauer. Which is all aside of the statements from the team that Mauer's health isn't going to be risked by playing behind the plate.
  14. I don't see a contradiction. If the batter's putting his best swing on the ball, in most cases an outside pitch will go the opposite way, while an inside pitch will be pulled. The TV guys can use the results as a guide.
  15. This is covered in the TD Comments Policy. If you haven't already done so, please read the full policy; but warning points are explained in this portion near the bottom: http://twinsdaily.com/topic/8228-twins-daily-comment-policy-latest-revision-september-2013/?p=285057 Also (as mentioned in the policy) please direct further questions about site moderation to the Questions About MinnCentric forum area, or contact one of the moderators via the Private Messaging system, rather than create a side discussion about it in one of the baseball threads.
  16. The rule also doesn't let you retain the option of inserting a DH once your Babe Ruth clone hits the showers. If you submit a lineup without a DH, you lose it for the entire game. If you're sure your pitcher will go 6+ innings, maybe it's worth the hassle/risk of having to pinch-hit for the rest of the game.
  17. "Ah, but nothing personal, kid. It's a business." / "Kid? I turn 29 in a month."
  18. To be an innings eater you first have to be able to get out of the fourth inning against major league hitters on a consistent basis. Is Haley that guy?
  19. Is the latter a crime, or a punishment? The lines blur.
  20. <BYTO in-joke> / not having been a part of that scene, I can't dial one up at the moment
  21. Congratulations and best wishes for many more birthdays! http://www.rgbstock.com/cache1nu5gs/users/b/ba/ba1969/300/meMDlyQ.jpg
  22. As a Netflix virgin, I feel confident in saying that such behavior in others is morally reprehensible and deserves social ostracization. A scarlet 'N', perhaps?
