  1. Mrs Ash took up Pilates. She still can't throw a decent fastball.
  2. Here. It was a little more than a month ago, so maybe there was something similar further back.
  3. He has little trade value and there is no reason to discard him any sooner than we have to. Chances are that events will play out in a way that we're glad we still have him.
  4. Totally as an aside, this will be an important topic the next time the Collective Bargaining Agreement is negotiated. The lengthy period prior to free agency is predicated on the idea that stars will cash in once they are able to. It could go any of several directions going forward.
  5. Let's please avoid mind-reading.
  6. Two words regarding bullpen cars: NASCAR Sponsorship. Have Dale Earnhardt Jr or Jeff Gordon drive the car and I guarantee the game will speed up.
  7. So maybe there was some mild disagreement within the brain trust. They are not a monolith. Maybe both agreed that Shaggy was the one to remove, in favor of the upcoming FA signing, but they had a friendly side bet over whether the pitcher would make it through waivers or not. Maybe the loss Levine regrets is the price of two steak dinners.
  8. No disagreement with these facts, but we don't even know whether it's an issue. We may find out later that any of the players won't be good to go on Opening Day. That happens; Ehire was on the DL to start the season in 2017, for example. And any injury move need only be the short DL, not the 60-day variety. There's nothing wrong with sketching out a few scenarios, but we are a long way from it being desirable for the team to commit in one direction or the other. 15 is a really low number, especially when AAA is a bit barren of young talent pushing to make the squad. For all we know, Grossman and Vargas will be Opening Day starters of necessity. I don't hope for that, but they could tide us through. And you never know, one of them might Wally Pipp the nominal starter.
  9. That's a very team friendly PA level, IMO, with league leadership usually being a shade north of 700. He barely cracked 600 for the first time last season. And if the option doesn't vest, the team still has the choice to exercise it - say he hits great but is out for a month with an injury. If he doesn't hit well, the team legitimately throttles back on the playing time; there would be room for shenanigans but hopefully our FO doesn't operate that way. I couldn't find it spelled out whether the player can turn down the option if it vests, in mirror image to the team's latitude the other way, but that would be an issue only if he has a monster season, which we all would hope for. It's said frequently here that there's no such thing as a bad 1-year contract. Even better is a team option for a second year, and this is only just shy of that.
  10. I suppose the Dodgers went into similar thoughts regarding Dozier a year+ ago. Forecasting is hard.
  11. This puts the Twins 40-man at 15 position players and 25 pitchers. I somehow still don't see them cutting ties with a batter for now, despite the flexibility issue; they still have a month before any 25-man decisions have to be made. A lot can happen.
  12. I think the vesting option answers that concern, doesn't it? If he performs, the team has him for the following season. If he doesn't, he'll be benched enough to not vest. (I'm not certain that a vesting option binds both parties but I think it does.)
  13. It's a fresh waiver, so they would need to add him to the 40-man like any other team. He has a minor league option remaining, so if they simply want to put him in AAA they can. But, if they want to again remove him from the 40-man, they would need to put him on waivers again, and I think doing it* a second time has additional ramifications such as allowing him to choose free agency. Which, if he was fed up enough, he just might. * Actually, Designated For Assignment, which is closely tied, but this note has become too long already
  14. Agreed. But he has played a tiny amount during his career at 2B/3B, and if he's willing to embrace a utility role for the remainder of his pro career then I don't think the position player roster for Rochester will be so full of near-ready young infielders that he couldn't play full-time at second or third, in preference to some other AAAA type of player. He has the opt-out on March 27, and there's a recent MLBTR post saying he drew interest from the Reds and Rangers too, so the choice really is up to him.
  15. Depending on how seriously you meant this, I may rescind my Like.
  16. Reasonable depth move, given that he was willing to sign a minor league contract.
  17. Mrs Ash and I went to see showings of the Oscar nominated shorts. Divided into three sessions, for Documentaries, Animation, and Short Subjects. Lots of good stuff out there. https://shorts.tv/theoscarshorts/
  18. In addition to the other replies, I'd like to point out this simply wasn't said. Something can be a factor, without it being a red flag.
  19. In the big leagues he's going to have to pitch at Target Field in April. Why not give him some experience with that general type of thing this year at AAA? The purpose isn't for him to put up the gaudiest minor league numbers, it's to develop into the best big leaguer he can be. If his numbers take a hit in the first half, it still may be for the best.
  20. Moderator's note: Guys. Let's not be condescending, one toward another.
  21. Sanchez may not yet have had his physical (since he had not been at anyone's spring training camp), thus not yet added to the 40-man.
  22. Probably not. Appropriate =/= utmost in every case.
