  1. And... The prize obtained for Milton (also with throw-ins Silva and Punto). His lifetime BA of 1.000 remains unexcelled.
  2. Levi Michael can only hope his floor is this good.
  3. Unless your interview is at dinnertime, and/or you've had multiple nights of bad sleep, this could be a good sign. The normal amount of adrenaline is flowing and will get you through the event, and you'll be fine.
  4. "You youngsters think Rick Anderson is the first Twins pitching coach to ever catch a load of grief."
  5. Moderator's note: no, the thread is still open as far as I can tell.
  6. Much as I usually say I'm opposed to trying to mind-read, in the case of Swarzak I can't help but continue to wonder whether that cracked rib from horseplay matured him up and he became more serious about his career, in which case he might be worth another shot in the rotation at some point, because there'd actually be reason to hope for better results than before.
  7. Put the two speedsters on the corners, and put Arcia in CF - either deep and let the corners play in a bit, or shallow and let the corners play deep - and neutralize the deficiencies. / i'm kidding... i think
  8. The problem with Gagne as a comp is age and established performance. At 24 he was a major-league regular with a .700 OPS, and it was no anomaly since his minor league numbers were good when taking account of age and league level. Florimon isn't in his early twenties any longer, and the chances for further growth at the plate aren't good. Nothing's impossible in baseball, but I don't think the smart money is on Florimon to now become a .700 OPS contributor.
  9. We just need better analytics, to give us the "home runs per dead fish slider" ratio in Spring.
  10. Less good of an analysis.
  11. Good analysis; I try to not put much stock into quotes unless I can hear/see the exact question that was asked.
  12. I'm also in the camp to entertain offers for him anytime through the season, and if nothing of that sort happens then wish him well at the end of the season. It's no longer a good fit.
  13. http://i2.cdn.turner.com/cnn/dam/assets/130415224955-12-robinson-day-horizontal-gallery.jpg "Getcher scorecards, right here. Yah can't tell the playahs without a scorecard."
  14. Jackie Robinson day, right? I guess we could find a lot of photos for today, then.
  15. One other bit of advice: try to put yourself in your interviewer's shoes. What does he want? In the little bit of experience I've had interviewing candidates, I was highly influenced by someone who boiled it down to two things: "is he smart enough?" and "does he get things done?" You don't want to hire someone smart who never accomplishes things; you equally don't want to hire a go-getter who gets stupid things accomplished. Probably you'll have no trouble establishing that you're smart enough for what they want, indeed the risk is that you'll overdo it; but grab every opportunity they give you to show that you get things done.
  16. I'm pretty much in agreement with all that's been said. Regarding the "ask questions" bit, I have always liked to approach the interview as essentially I'm already hired and this is my first day on the job and I'm getting oriented by my new boss and perhaps meeting some co-workers or higher-ups. The questions come naturally then, and the right combination of confidence and humility they'll want to see will be more natural. Know as much about the company as you can, so that if it's Mutual of Omaha you aren't caught flat-footed saying "oh, what TV show?" I agree about erring on the side of over-dressing by a little. You can always take a blazer off. You can't run out and put one on.
  17. Great thread topic, and I am not confident any of these would pass unclaimed.
  18. The other good part about the wealth of talent at AA and above is that there is surely less uncertainty about their floor than if they are still in Rookie ball. The quote about Buxton's floor being Torii Hunter that is making the rounds is probably an exaggeration, but a fun one, and a lot of these guys are looking like locks (barring a revolting development) to be at least productive major leaguers for multiple seasons.
  19. Rub some dirt on it, and for God's sake don't let the other team see you wince.
  20. Name this guy. (Might be easy, it's just that this was the largest photo I could find of him that has the number visible.)
  21. Related reasoning has me in the belief that the kiss cam is about to go the way of the dodobird. Present company excluded, of course.
  22. Terry Ryan's career dates back earlier than 2013, ditto others who will be involved in making such a decision. They are capable of deciding each case on its own merits, IMO, and don't dart back and forth based on the most recent experience they've had. If they decide to bring Buxton up despite what happened to Hicks when they tried it, it will be because Buxton the human being isn't Hicks the human being.
  23. But do they have the perspective (of time, of prior experience, etc) to make this judgement? I know that a few of my schoolteachers that I hated at the time were the ones who actually made me learn things, or at least tried and I was too stubborn to benefit - maybe the Twins braintrust sees the same kind of thing in Smith? (Maybe this side topic belongs in some thread of its own, if there isn't a quick resolution to it.)
  24. Moderator's note: Folks, the discussion about veterans may be interesting, but it has from the start strayed pretty far from the original poster's question, to nominate (three) non-baseball things to eliminate from the ballpark experience. TD has a "Sports Bar" forum if someone wishes to start a thread on that tangent.
