  1. "Nobody remembers back that far." ?
  2. Never metaphor I didn't like.
  3. I think the corollary is that if you're going to start throwing the slider for strikes, you need to throw some fastballs up and out of the zone.
  4. I don't think you can safely extrapolate to 5 or 6 games, simply from 4.5 innings. Baseball isn't played on paper.
  5. I don't see how the method presupposes anything. It sets up a framework, and if patterns emerge from it, we can go from there. It is written in terms of the value observed from situations; not the value of framing as an assumption going in. If anything, it stands a chance of debunking framing, if things turn out to cancel out.
  6. Oh, so you're the one who's gotten those teachers trained to spell my son's name wrong.
  7. Other teams' pitchers will give our guys cookies down the middle if we get more cuties1 like Dozier? 1 I am going strictly by the advice I have been given by those in the know.
  8. Please try to remember this scenario in the regular season when we need a rally in the 9th.
  9. I'm with you until this sentence. If the attitude turns into wins, it'll show up somewhere in the numbers. Pete Rose got his nickname Charlie Hustle derisively to start with; players recognize that some kinds of attitude are helpful while others are just rah-rah, and the jury was out on Rose until the results started rolling in.
  10. Not certain the feeling will always be mutual.
  11. The piece makes reference to playing deep perhaps accounting for a higher BABIP, but then goes on to say that getting burned while playing shallow may hurt you worse. Makes me wonder, why have I never heard of OPSBIP, or at least SLGBIP?
  12. That's where you put your best hitter.
  13. Worley uses his allotted pitch count very effectively: squeezes out three full innings on 12 pitches, all for strikes (or at least swung at) according to the mlb.com running account?
  14. Probably obvious on first sight to everyone except me, but: on Twitter.
  15. The boxscore shows him currently with an .833 batting average. Is this just a hot streak, or can he keep this up?
  16. Jays' starting pitching would have been better today if it had been Happ-less. Har.
  17. Rocking the sideburns before Joe Mauer was even a zygote:
  18. Friends don't let friends.
  19. True. William Safire has apparently come back from the dead! And he shure know How To Write Good1. 1 Fumblerules
  20. Moderator's note: It's a poor decision to double on a losing bet.

  22. I can assure you that the moderation team takes seriously the issue of hijacking the topic of any thread. In fact, if genuine baseball discussion had broken out in a thread that started with an observation about a common misspelling of a player's name, I am sure warnings from the moderators would already have been liberally applied. / anyone notice ParmElee is batting .400 so far this spring?
  23. ... From Planet Rochester.
  24. Arrogance pertains to character. So does stubbornness, or refusal to assess one's weaknesses. Why is laziness a special hot button word?
