  1. The braintrust here at TD seems to have missed this tidbit. I do see it on the player's mlb.com page transactions list. He seemed to have had a decent enough spring with the bat, although obviously in tiny sample size. I thought he was a good non-roster pickup, and I'm going to assume he requested the release. Oh well.
  2. Is this something Martin has actually demonstrated in games? 😀
  3. I didn't see a current FWN thread, so I thought I'd start one, with this tidbit from yesterday's Game Thread. Baseball-reference.com confirms that no player has maintained a 3.500 OPS or higher for more plate appearances in a season than Royce Lewis's 2. He's in elite company! (Company that includes King Felix Hernandez in 2008., with a homer and a sacrifice bunt.) Here's hoping that this distinction doesn't exist for too much longer. Unless of course he keeps this up all season when he comes back.
  4. He made the final out. Considering his team was behind 8-2 at the moment he came up with the bases empty, I'm a little surprised he didn't hit one out of the park for a meaningless run. Bitter much? Oh no, not me.
  5. Ha ha, KC celebrating their loss with a fireworks display.
  6. Nice crisp 2:29 full 9-inning game. Thank you, Pitch Clock.
  7. I'm past that question (without disagreement), and am concerned about Kirilloff's instincts when the decision is his. Not just this one play either; I expected his transition to 1B to be smoother than it's been.
  8. Oh lord. How many weeks will we need to suffer, then?
  9. Kirilloff's dad was a well-regarded coach as I recall. I just don't see the baseball instincts coming from Alex. HBP is a dead ball, in all situations, isn't it? So shouldn't the motivation be to go if the ball gets far away from the catcher, since you'll risk little and if it's HBP they'll just call you back to third?
  10. "In play, runs." Baseball poetry, at least when at bat.
  11. Took Kirilloff a long time to get going for home. Coaching indecision, I assume.
  12. Play ball! My brother and I would do that, 50 years ago or thereabouts.
  13. 95 MPH sliders away give everyone trouble.
  14. Castro rung up on another Laz special.
  15. Kepler needed a moment after fouling one off his leg.
  16. Doesn't usually do that.
  17. I don't know what she did to deserve you, Chief.
  18. Yeah, base hit for Byron.
  19. Hadn't seen Kirilloff's beard until now. Not a plus, IMO.
  20. I'm trying to find good video of how Lewis made the turn at second base. It was awkward as he touched the base but maybe that was after the injury had occurred. Still I wonder about the baserunning skills they are taught; I've always had doubts about Buxton's technique at times.
  21. I mean, it feels like cheap second guessing, but yeah, questions need to be asked.
  22. Royals have a major league SS too.
  23. Their Dunkel is really good.
