  1. Nothing like a 11-game winning streak to dampen the enthusiasm for a little camaraderie.
  2. Lopez does have that extra gear when he needs it.
  3. I could do without the double-clutch by Julien on routine grounders like that last one, but at this stage of his career I still prefer that to the mild case of yips he used to have when there was enough time to think.
  4. He could win consecutive batting titles with 3 different teams. A nice little oddity for the history books if it were to happen.
  5. If it's the new team president taking a clear-eyed view of the franchise's near-term chances, I don't hate the choice if I'm a Marlins fan. They don't look like a team that will be contending during the remainder of their control over Arraez's tenure there, and they surely won't be able to afford to entice him to stay after that. Add to that, Arraez's skillset might be among the more polarizing even among analytics-heavy front offices, and the strategy to obtain as much prospect capital while they still can makes sense to me. Now, about that pitching of theirs. Thad Levine, get on the phone right now! (Too bad you already traded Noah Miller for the rotting corpse of Manuel Margot.) (Wait, what happened to Miami's pitching all of a sudden???)
  6. Tell us you don't know how sports economics work, without saying "I don't know how sports economics work." 😀
  7. Austin Martin has played 0 innings at shortstop this season, either for the Twins or for the Saints. He played 0 innings at SS last season, either. FWIW, he played almost no SS in college at Vanderbilt, either. So it's not just my rinky dink amateur opinion; people being paid have made these judgments. The Jays and then the Twins did try to force it for a couple of seasons 2021-22, but it didn't work. Folks should get over the notion that the team currently sees him as a viable shortstop option, whatsover. He's a backup shortstop only in the same sense that Kyle Farmer is a backup catcher - he played the position for a while, sometime in the past.
  8. Not much substance to the article, but that's okay, it's a subjective topic in the first place. My main reaction is that IF they're one of the best, and haven't come particularly close to winning a World Series in 7 seasons, it just demonstrates what an unlevel playing field the smaller markets compete on. Six different franchises have won the WS in those 7 seasons, suggesting a certain kind of competitive balance. But only Washington is even close to what is meant by "mid-market" these days. Maybe I'm just old-fashioned and need to adjust my rooting interest. I should pick a sentimental team, as the Twins are, and then pick a second team to follow that actually has a chance. Meanwhile, good luck, FalVine. Front offices have gotten smarter during my lifetime* and the latitude for being significantly better gets smaller every year. * I take only a little credit 😀
  9. Dinner finished, heading out the door, but I just need to say that my singing voice is so bad, they won't even let me lip-synch!
  10. All right, I have to leave, and will trust this lead to the rest-of-you's tender care for an eventual win. It's a dinner-and-show date night* for me and Mrs Ash. * Leftover fish tacos at home, then out to the local high school for an amateur lip-sync performance. Wish me luck on all counts.
  11. It's when I get into arguments with myself that Mrs Ash really worries.
  12. Being the slow-to-adopt front-runner I am, I'm warming up to Willi Castro.
  13. According to some schools of thought, he doesn't have to.
  14. Did you rob the cradle or something? I would have assumed her complaint would be movies with recorded sound.
  15. False. Vazquez has not hit any triples since the 2021 season.
  16. Our underappreciated starting catcher* leads the team in the latter category (SH + SF combined). * Vazquez. Who did you think I meant? Look at the number of game started at C.
  17. "Too soon old, too late to go opposite field with the outside pitch..."
