  1. It is absolutely necessary in today's game and can be a difference maker. Or is your position that players and coaches who make it to the major league level are morons? Jeffers did get burned, however.
  2. And a teammate cancels out the cancellation. Baseball.
  3. Don't worry, it'll switch back when their guys are up.
  4. Overdue is another viable theory.
  5. St Paul is a quieter, more relaxing city.
  6. More like what you probably meant.
  7. That implies constant improvement, doesn't it? Eventually leading to some runs?
  8. That's not as generous of him as it sounds. He's not using it at the moment anyway.
  9. I'm not an Oakland taxpayer but I get to their games yearly when I can, and my experience at the stadium has always been the opposite of the adjectives you used.
  10. Quick follow-up, Joe finished tied for 16th. A-Rod finished with the second worst score of the 90 entrants, although one participant had to withdraw due to work commitments and technically finished last.
  11. While it lasted. / edit - should have kept reading before posting.
  12. Came online quickly to say something similar, but I see you've got it covered.
  13. Don't think I'll be able to multitask during the game, but if there's a foul fly to left field, look for me and Mrs Ash.
  14. When Chief stops bothering to throw me curves and sliders, I'll know it's time to hang up the spikes.
  15. But to answer the poll, 2B is more important and so I'd leave the veteran Lewis where he is at third base and let the young guy fill in at the open spot. Lee's defense is said to be really good - he will learn. But I haven't seen for myself. / edit - I peeked in now and then at Saturday's game but managed to not be there for any of Lee's defensive stylings. Just caught up on the videos provided in the game recap here, and I have no further questions, Your Honor. Lee can play anywhere in the infield as far as I'm concerned. Nothing wrong with having ss-caliber players at all three skill positions. PS. With luck I will be in attendance at today's game.
  16. First base. As always. Third base? I Don't Know.
  17. Warning-track power used to be a criticism of a player, not an excuse. 😀
  18. Me yesterday, along about the fifth inning: Should have done this instead, earlier:
  19. The box score and play-by-play have it a little different. He gave up a leadoff single, and the runner then went to third on a stolen base combined with a throwing error. After a strikeout, there was a HBP followed by a steal of second. After that, it was 5 straight strikeouts. All the outs were scored on a swing and a miss (one was a dropped third strike that had to be finished 2-3). Yes, excellent overall first-outing. Chances are he doesn't languish at the Coast League level too long.
  20. Joe Mauer is one of 90 entrants at the American Century Celebrity Championship golf tournament at Edgewood Tahoe Golf Course in Stateline, Nev. The first round was Friday, July 12, 2024. He did very well, tying for 8th place so far.
