  1. Dumb swings like Castro's on that 0-1 pitch could be at least a partial explanation for poor results with men on base.
  2. The opposing pitcher today: Criswell.
  3. Good two innings for Joe Ryan. I'm starting to think he's a keeper.
  4. I didn't post the link with that in mind, but there's a treasure trove of memories from 7 years ago. The two batters at the top of the Giants' batting order were Twins alumni, Denard Span and Eduoardo Nunez. Nunez is kind of fun to look back at. He amassed 3000+ plate appearances, yet his career WAR hovers around 0, and whatever you think of those particular metrics, the PA sounds weird but the WAR sounds about exactly right. 😀 His longevity puts him in somewhat exclusive company, as only about 2000 players ever came to bat that many times. The other side of the coin is that only about 650 of those compiled a lifetime OPS lower than Eduardo's .714.
  5. "Ladies and gentlemen, your cleanup hitter for tonight, Robbie Grossman!"
  6. It happens about once a year, for some team, doesn't it? I'll go with that, and not bother to show my work, that it even kind of makes sense.* * And, if someone responds with data that shows it typically happens twice a year, or just once every other year, I can adjust my calculations to suit.
  7. Yes, well, I was remembering something from the past, and fortunately the TD search function works very well when you have an uncommon yet specific keyword to look up:
  8. Fun question and I'm here to tell you there is no simple answer. 😀
  9. I was thinking the same thing (and now saying it the same way as someone else), probably because it appeared in another thread or two within the past day. Been seeing it all season. Some years from now we'll run across an old thread using this term and think "that was SOOOO 2024." Maybe as soon as 2025. Yes, as others have noted in this thread, my lawn is nicely manicured and I would not like to see it stepped upon.
  10. There's a lot of leeway given in answering thiat question, but ultimately the moderators offer to help anyone who is having difficulty finding the right balance, sometimes unilaterally. 😀
  11. I was slow to join the Jax bandwagon, so maybe I'll regret not jumping right onto Cole Sands's either. He retired the number 7, 8, 9 batters in the BoSox order yesterday. Lots of pitchers can't accomplish such a feat. Still, I'm not ready to say he's ready to be a closer or even necessarily a high-leverage arm just yet. Promising results so far, and the basis to keep feeding him opportunities of increasing difficulty and leverage.
  12. Never iron a 4-leaf clover. You don't want to press your luck.
  13. That song on a sousaphone should be recorded for all here to enjoy!
  14. You could have saved yourself a lot of typing and simply clicked Like on my post. 😊
  15. Expect to see this prediction thrown in your face sometime in August, Pollyanna. July, maybe even. The long grind gets to every team eventually.
  16. None can stand, against the mighty sausage.
  17. When the streak reaches 24, supply both.
  18. I got the correct spelling drilled into me as a Physics major. (Two Wien bridges, for you liberal arts majors.)
  19. Santana! Time for a contract extension?
  20. It was. Another way of saying my previous comment, I was prepared for this play not to be made, and he exceeded that expectation. Maybe it's time I raise my expectation.
  21. Julien gets it done. Always seems to require holding my breath. But it wasn't the easiest of plays and he did it.
