  1. Obviously not. But in the background for all the topics about the starting rotation during spring was the likelihood that any team will use 7 or 8 starters in a season.
  2. So are the Twins, I would bet. 15-day for now, AFAIK. / edit: as Tobi also pointed out, the 15 makes sense for the time being.
  3. I don't remember anything about my first game, except one indelible recollection: Mosquitos! Why yes, this WAS old Metropolitan Stadium, either late 1978 or else in 1979.
  4. They realize that except for the few with guaranteed contracts they will lose their jobs if this keeps up. I'd have to hear the specific jokes, but gallows humor would be completely appropriate and probably helpful.
  5. If he's getting by with inducing batters to wave at stuff in the dirt, that will get tougher to achieve as he moves up, unless he gets to face only Aaron Hicks clones. But I'm still cautiously optimistic for him. The one tiny bit I saw him in Spring Training, he wriggled out of a jam, produced in part by someone's fielding error, by inducing batters to beat the ball into the ground. So I have him pegged as a resilient type not too easily flustered.
  6. TD should open a new Forum, The Arts. "This was the Nishioka of stage plays. Charge an error to whoever produced it. WAR (Writing Above Replacement) negative 100. Don't fail to miss this one!"
  7. In case anybody is holding back because you can't think of a good player, and/or to kickstart the thinking process, here's a remaining list I would love to see covered and who have (IMO) a genuine chance to develop into a major leaguer you can be proud to have invested the time on in a few years. I don't have the energy to do them all myself. Once a bunch of these are taken, I'll jump in and snatch a couple for myself. If I recall correctly, the Hall of Fame of my past "adoptees" includes Joe Benson, Darin Mastroianni, and The Illustrious Kenny Wilson. Maybe you can be just as lucky with yours!
  8. Hey, off-topic, but that's what Game Threads are about, amiright? I wanna put in a good word with all of you for Seth's Adopt-A-Prospect project. There are about a hundred Twins prospects worth following, and it doesn't take a lot of time or experience to choose one, follow him, and write up highlights every week or two. You give a little effort, and it pays off when you want to look up something about another player and someone else has got it right there for you. Give it a try.
  9. Of greater importance, he caught a ball hit to the outfield. I say wait one more game to make sure that wasn't a fluke.
  10. For dumb!

  12. Theory #4: the Twins are actually 2-0 in this young season, with well-pitched games both days plus timely hitting. But the mass media is hiding this information from us all. Like the moon landings, video of these past two games has been faked.
  13. http://media.tumblr.com/100af8b544f564e088a40232a4bf5ebb/tumblr_inline_nkfrgwbLVa1qaoi7g.gif (Without all the song and dance, of course.)
  14. Unfortunately his SO/HR ratio (that's per hour, not per home run) remains at zero.
  15. Difference being that Benjamin Button got better looking as he got younger, whereas SD gets uglier as he gets older.
  16. So you're saying, they took it easy on us, burying their sluggers down there in the lineup so that we would have to face them one less time each.
  17. How about the defense? The SSS while I watched him last month left me with questions.
  18. Then this is probably a cheap-shot over-reaction:
  19. Except for the huge contract.
  20. It's been so long, I've forgotten: is that when a pitcher starts an inning, and prevents the other team from scoring even one run that entire inning, unaided by someone from the bullpen coming on in relief, in effect being there on the mound when all three outs are recorded?
  21. If the choice of pitcher for the 7th inning proves decisive to anything, it will mean the Twins have taken giant strides this season.

  23. I'm probably the wrong guy to answer since I'm far from being his advocate, but he got through his time on the mound today. Didn't seem to be any mystery to the batters though.
