  1. Every player has a right to ask the nearest coach, "nothing I did in this game actually counted for anything at all, as far as making impressions goes, did it? I mean, look at the lineup when the game ended."
  2. Tied after 9. Do they play a tenth, or does Molitor send a written note to Farrell, "look, I had freekin' D. J. Johnson in there for the last inning, I got plenty more where that came from but do you really want any of it?"
  3. Video of the last time Plouffe tried to play shortstop here.
  4. OK, I got a little worked up about him in the ninth inning. Now pitching, and failing to improve on the mess Ledezma laid, is D. J. Johnson. Daniel Stuart Johnson. Pitched at Fort Myers last year after being picked up from the Frontier League. I guess this really is a split squad game after all.
  5. Here's one for Halsey to get worked up over: Plouffe is listed as shortstop for the 9th inning. / Oops, misread the gameday line: Plouffe at first base came out when Bernier came in at short.
  6. He throws lefty, he has a pulse, he's not on the 40-man, he had racked up 0.1 spring innings prior to this game. I can't get too worked up.
  7. Veteran signed for Rochester this past December.
  8. Escobar drives in two more with a single. 3-1. W00t.
  9. It's worse than that, D Hocking. They don't even let you resign.
  10. Dozier walks. Mauer walks. Torii drives in Dozier with a single. Vargas drives Mauer to third with a single. Now 1-1 with two outs. This has been your Circus Boy Update.
  11. It's Florida. The drainage ditches get that way, sometimes.
  12. He did not impress in his final spring start. The wind was blowing steadily to right. You could chalk that up to bad luck, or you could view it as him letting the Pirate batters have their way. I choose the latter. I would like a pitcher I can trust when the wind is unfavorable (righty facing lefties in this case). A quick tuneup in Rochester and maybe he smooths out a few rough spots like that with good coaching.
  13. Agreed. I am more worried about the 2015 offense than the 2014 run total would suggest, and not solely because guys like D Santana could have a lower BABIP.
  14. I doubt it. Managers tend to be very aware of landmark milestones like that, and sit a player before he can break a negative record.
  15. Your first inning Circus Boy Update: 0-0. / however the top of the second was less kind...
  16. I didn't get that close to any of the players, but I seem to have come home from Ft Myers with some kind of virus myself. Bleh.
  17. Looking forward to learning more about this Brian Boyer chap. / didn't know you went in for April Fools jokes, Seth
  18. Sometimes it seems like the entire 40-man roster was constructed with this logic.
  19. Gardenhire Acres VIP Kennels, R. Clyde Gardenhire Prop,, has been sold to a certain P. Leo Molitor. Details pending.
  20. Good to hear. He got hit hard the day I watched him, about a week ago.

  22. Carnac: "Commitment to the bit" Ed: Commitment to the bit. This sounds auto-biographical in nature, considering how long we've been doing this. Carnac: Or auto-pilot, in your case. Ed: Hey! May the fleas of a... wait a second, how'd we get reversed on this? Carnac: Beats me. Wait, I should save that line for another envelope. "Beats me." Ed: Hey-yo! Speaking of envelopes, would you be so kind as to open this one and read the question? Carnac: "What was the key to Triple Crown winner Secretariat's success?"
  23. Giants. They were my first MLB game when I was 12 and lived in the Bay Area for a year. I moved back West almost 20 years ago and resumed a vague and general rooting interest in them.
  24. I thought Mike Kvasnicka was having a good spring at the plate, but I didn't look up any stats and am just going by what happened when I was around.
