    Same can be said for almost all players in every uniform. There was a statistic that, at some point in time in the not too distant past, close to 10% of ALL plate appearances and/or innings pitched in major league history were credited to Hall Of Famers. At first it seems shocking but when you stop to think about the nature of HOFers it kind of makes sense. The vast majority of players who get their name into the Baseball Encyclopedia (I am showing my age) are so-so players or less, and that's because they get cycled through at a rapid pace.

    Is Plouffe even a fit for the Nationals? They have a 3Bman under contract for 2016. Maybe Yunel Escobar's defense isn't up to snuff, but it still means a three-way trade which is hard to pull off.

    I'm fairly high on him as a prospect, despite the breath-taking K numbers. But as far as "raw pop" goes, is he really in rare company, or has he made the conscious choice to accentuate this one (undeniably strong) aspect of his game to a far greater degree than almost anyone else, and strikeouts be damned?

    In some localities Granny can be in her thirties when the first grandchild shows up. The name might sound to them about like Auntie would to me. I wouldn't be too quick to settle into the rocking chair in that eventuality.

    I took it more as him being a smart gambler who knows how to set a line to get the action he wants. I suddenly would not go up against him. / edit - I see that Seth responded simultaneously along similar lines

    I'm not ready to rank Jay that highly just yet. It's a gamble to convert him back to a starter and that gamble hasn't even begun, since he pitched only an inning or so at a time for us. I suppose he has a fairly high floor as a reliever, but that doesn't scream #5 to me, either. I'm not sure I'm ready to anoint him top-10, even. A year from now, probably, yeah.

    You couldn't quite pull the trigger on a headline of "More? Neau.", John? Adding Morneau never even crossed my mind. As Brock just said, we already have a full slate of players about whom the plan seems to be "and if all else fails, we can DH him."

    Innings number 1, 9, and 14. Though 8 can be good too, and you are guaranteed both a top and a bottom of the inning, unlike 9.

    I'll add to my answer that, "it's just sports". It's entertainment, and I want my entertainment. If the Twins are leading 2 games to 0 in the Series That Cures Cancer, I want them to finish the sweep on the road.

    Obviously. The examples you raised, children without food or a roof over their head, people dying every day, famine, war, genocide, are themselves a tad silly in comparison to the impending Heat Death Of The Universe in a short 10100 years or so. I got it right away.

    #8 seems like a very appropriate place for a guy who has finished AA and maintains his ceiling of "corner outfield starter for a decade, maybe some all-star appearances". It's just the low low floor that remains worrisome.

    It's not that I didn't try to think. Just, nothing happened. So here goes nothing. I'll assume your question means I didn't have tickets to games 1 or 2. Then I guess I have to be selfish and hope they come home to finish the Series. Preferably they lead three games to two, and if they can't close the deal in either of two games then it's their fault, not mine for wishing for the situation.

    I am very high on Polanco's eventual success in the majors, but it's not clear to me his bat is ready right now. It's fun to joke around about his stellar major league numbers, but included in the joke needs to be the .385 BABIP that they're probably built upon. I'm more persuaded, by his AA numbers, that a year in AAA will do him a world of good, rather than force-feed him in the majors. And of course, he's going to have to sort out for himself whether he has the makings of a shortstop's arm - my sense from watching him is he's sacrificing some zip in favor of directional accuracy, but too many bounced throws means it's not working, and if he can't cut loose on his throws and have them go where he intends then it's second base for him. This area of development is also something that seems better suited for AAA time than on the 25-man MLB roster.
