The odds of Snell doing a short-term deal are very low. He is looking for big payday and there are too many big market teams needing starting pitching. Although he is still out there. Which means his price tag is huge. Sooner or later, he will come down a little and one of those teams will meet it.

Agree, pretty wishful thinking Buxton plays a lot of CF. One thought I've had moving him to corner OF position makes sense. Less wear and tear on his legs. Plus, pairing him with strong defensive CF would make our outfield defense outstanding. I thought Castro made great strides defensively last year in the OF. I'm optimistic that Austin Martin could become the long-term solution in CF sooner than later. Having Buxton's RH bat in our line up regularly makes our line up much more potent. Especially, if he is not tying up the DH spot.

Remember that off season when Johan was one season away from free agency. The Twins went into the winter meetings definitely planning on trading him. Since they were not going to meet his demands for a new contract. They tried hard to get the Yankees and Red Sox in bidding war. At the end of the meetings and had their best offers. The Twins passed on them and both teams went in another direction. Which were both better offers from what I understand than the one they eventually took from the Mets. Johan and his agent forced the Twins hand, also has trade talks dragged on. They informed the Twins they would not be willing to negotiate any extension with the new team. If there was not a trade made soon. Which greatly decreased his value (one year deal). The only player of value the Twins got was Carlos Gomez. They got 3 young pitchers who never really developed in the deal. Gomez blossom after the Twins traded him for JJ Hardy. They should have kept him. But they needed a SS at the time. Hardy was pretty good when he played. Should not have traded him ether for what they got. But the Mets got stuck with paying Johan record contract for a starting pitcher at the time. He really only had one good year for the Mets. He got hurt and never was close to the pitcher he had been,

What It Was Like Growing Up in the 1950's/1960's
Bob Twins Fan Since 61 commented on Paul D's blog entry in Paul Danesi
Same here except Earl Battey was my first until Tony Oliva arrive. My dad and uncles all loved Harmon Killebrew. They teased me endlessly for Tony being my guy. But I never wavered. I liked the Killer too. But always figured he already had plenty of fans, so Tony was my guy. Later in life Kirby Puckett and Joe Mauer became my favorite players. Of course, making me no different than vast majority of Twins fans. Today, I like Louie Varland and Royce Lewis a lot. But if I had to choose today, Carlos Correa is my guy. I believe he is the unnamed captain of the Twins. They will go has far has he leads them. I believe that is pretty far. -
My comeback is they definitely have need for player like Polanco at 2B. Who the Twins can afford to trade because of their depth at 2B. Also, the Blue Jays might recognize that they will have an unhappy player with Manoah. Due to their handling of his injury situation last year. I'm still very interested. Knowing he has to pass the medical exam to approve the trade.

The research I did on Manoah his poor performance was injury related. He had an injection in September to his shoulder. He was shutdown afterwards for the season. He also was disgruntled they send him to the minors twice because of poor performance. Which would be understandable if he was really injured. He should have gone on injury reserve instead. Any trade would require him to pass medical examination by Twins staff. If he passes the Twins medical examination, I will definitely trade Polanco for him. Too much upside to pass on. He was a damn good pitcher in 2021 & 2022. Plus, he isn't eligible for free agency until 2028. Only caution he is a big guy. I would want my scouts to access whether conditioning play a role in his injury. If so, what do they believe his work effort will be to address it.

I believe Buxton has full no-trade clause in his contract. He has final say on any potential trade.- 53 replies

Would add that four minor league players (hitters Brooks Lee, Austin Martin and starting pitchers David Festa and Simen Wood-Richardson) are important pieces in the Twins planning for 2024. How soon they can make the step up from St. Paul to being solid contributors to the major league roster. Their development will be critical if payroll is limited.

I was avid runner for many years. I had planter fasciitis for one whole summer. I was training to run a marathon. It is a painful injury to deal with. I admire Correa for playing through the pain last season. I did make a full recovery and ran many more races for years afterwards. Correa's playoff performance was outstanding - MVP level. I think Correa will comeback big time next year. I see him has the clear leader of the Twins. I am excited where he can lead the team.

I would pump the brakes on Varland moving to the bullpen. He has stated his preference is to be a starter. He was fine doing it late in the season to help the team and be in the big leagues. I think the Twins will give him a chance to make their rotation this spring. If he is beaten out, then the option of being moved to the bullpen and staying in the big leagues can be considered. Personally, I think there is a strong chance he could developed into very good starter. I would afford him that opportunity.

I stand with Melissa. Joe was a great player and person. He will be inducted into the Baseball Hall of Fame. He had some bad luck with injuries, or his records would be even greater. I always felt if him and Morneau had not been derailed with injuries in some of their peak years. They would have led the Twins to at least World Series appearance or two. Like Melissa I have tremendous respect for Joe the person. No classier a guy ever played for the Twins. I've been around long enough to see them all.

Week in Review: Another Backslide
Bob Twins Fan Since 61 replied to Nick Nelson's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
My view is the huge underperformance of Correa and Buxton is the biggest factor. Why the Twins record is what it is. If they cannot elevate their play to past performance levels. The team has no chance to be a competitive play-off team this year. Any moves they make at the trade deadline should be based on an honest assessment of Correa and Buxton's play for remainder of the season. I still have some hope but it's getting harder by the day. Since they both have long term contracts and no-trade clauses. The 2024 team will be heavily dependent on them getting them turned around also. -
I'm not convinced that Kepler's recent play will continue. I concur with trading high on Kepler if there is an opportunity to do so. Larnach's age and years of team control over Kepler weigh heavily why I prefer moving Kepler. Especially if the return is similar. Dumping Gallo and keeping Wallner on the big-league roster is a no brainer. At least I hope it is!

Besides Lopez's poor performance, my guess is he was a problem in the clubhouse too. Addition by subtraction. Hindsight is 20/20 but man would love to have Cano back. They do need to do through review on why Baltimore was able to turn Cano into an All Star and they over-valued Lopez's trade value based on 1/2 a season has a closer.

Definitely move on from Popkins and 1st would explore whether Nelson Cruz is interested in the job. Another possibility would be if there is college coach with big league experience either has a coach or player. I just can't take much more of almost half the outs are strike outs. Especially the high number of called 3rd strikes. Swing the bat at the least.

Week in Review: Stuck In Their Ways
Bob Twins Fan Since 61 replied to Nick Nelson's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
Very disappointed in the season. Something is wrong that so many hitters are underperforming. When they hired the young, very inexperience batting coach I questioned the hire. He is not totally blame but I'm convinced he is in over his head. Rocco in his press conference after the Atlanta fiasco sure seem to me pointing fingers at him without directly naming him. I would think their working relationship is pretty strained after that. That they are not making any significant changes during the all star break per interviews with Falvey, Dave St, Peter is disappointing. I remember in 2006 when they were in similar situation and Ryan and Gardy did make major changes. Which turned their season around. As a season ticket holder, I'm not buying staying the course with the current players and coaches makes sense. I guess I will have to join with other boo birds at games. I did read in Souhan's column when he was interviewing Joe Pohlad, Falvey's boss in his office during the last game (15-2 loss). They both could hear the boo birds loud and clear. Here's to Joe Pohlad properly motivating Falvey and Rocco.- 59 replies
