  1. Santana playing CF was a fluke. That is, unless you believe that center field to D.San was a security blanket that was worth a .300 point difference in OPS.
  2. Realistically, I think they battle with Cleveland for second place in the division.
  3. The Tigers' days as an AL powerhouse are over. I've got them finishing last in the division.
  4. Are we working on a contract extension for Plouffe? 'Cause if Sano is being moved off third, it might get pretty hard to move him back there eventually. Sano couldn't be worse in the outfield than Willingham, Arcia, or Delmon Young... but even if he can do better than that sad defensive lot, he might still be awful.
  5. If you're going to keep Buxton in AAA because you don't think he's ready, it doesn't make sense to roll with Santana in CF after his awful, miserable season. The only way that arrangement makes sense is if the reason to keep Buxton in the minors is service time. In my opinion, without Hicks, you have to give the job to Buxton, ready or not. It won't kill him and it likely won't be worse than Santana out there.
  6. If you think the Twins can and should unload Nolasco, this is the kind of trade you'd be looking at. The net result of this proposed trade seems sideways to me, so I'd probably not do it.
  7. If some other MLB team wanted to trade somebody for Vargas, that would be just OK with me. Trading Vargas to an Asian team for money when he has an option left seems wasteful.
  8. I like Hicks better than Murphy. Nothing against Murphy who I think can be a decent catcher, but I believe Hicks really did find himself this last season. I hope the Twins didn't give up on Hicks because they just didn't like him.
  9. Good to get something for Herrmann, who was never going to hit enough to be a starting catcher and whose receiving skills were questionable (Gardy used him almost exclusively in the outfield). I bet the D-Backs are also glad they got something for Palka.
  10. I could see the Twins going after Sipp. Best guess is that the Twins sign one or two mid-level relievers and a bunch of non-roster guys on ST invites. Return of Boyer may be in play.
  11. I think it would be a very bad idea to trade Hicks. His OBP was only behind Sano and Mauer as far as regular players go, and this team has a big problem with getting on base/not striking out that Byung-Ho Park is not going to help.
  12. I like how Jim has Park immediately stepping into the middle of the lineup like some kind of lead-pipe cinch. Also putting Sano in right field... which effectively means giving up on two of Hicks/Kepler/Rosario.
  13. Is he a clubhouse leader? Does he have a Minnesota connection? Does this mean we won't sign Morneau?
  14. Even if the Twins were to somehow acquire the reincarnation of Brad Radke, there's no way he'd be pitching 230 innings a season. They just wouldn't do that anymore. Holding up contemporary pitchers to that standard is simply unfair.
  15. Sano was always destined for first base. You know it, I know it, and the Twins know it. It'll be a shame when there are no more round holes to jam square pegs into and the Twins start casting off promising youngsters because, by god, Mauer's at first base forever.
  16. It seems a little early in the process to be targeting free agents who are "just fine" in a backup role.
  17. So... if it wasn't less than five days since the World Series ended, the Twins would have signed Robinson already. I can't imagine a bidding war for him. If the Twins want him back, it'll happen.
  18. Any way you look at it, it's really kinda both.
  19. I would fire Molitor and hire Gardy today. Not really, though. What does it say about Gary's reputation that he hasn't been able to land a manager job? If he was the front-runner for the Padres at one point, why did he fall behind? LEN3 had a blog recently that said Gary would want to bring in Andy and Scott Ullger. Maybe his demands are unrealistic.
  20. Suzuki was a fine backstop for a rebuilding team, but not so much when the team turns out to be closer to contention than they anticipated. I think it would be very bad if Suzuki's 2017 option vests, especially considering the Twins' policy of "if we're paying him starter money, then by god, he's going to start."
  21. Despite all we heard about Gardy being a wonderful manager and how he got the most out of the least, nobody with an opening wanted to hire him. I think all the national praise may have been patronizing.
  22. I'd trade Mauer for Tex straight up.
  23. My guess is that Bonds is on the Twins' short list behind Rondell White, Matthew LeCroy and Butch Huskey, unless there's a local Bonds connection I'm unaware of.
  24. I would say that voicing the opinion in a TV commercial is very public. And I've read his comments in the article and I don't believe he was taken out of context. This isn't a Republican vs. Democrat thing, either. It doesn't surprise me that an Arkansas Democrat would oppose gay marriage. I wouldn't have voted for either of them, and I'm thankful that I don't live in Arkansas. And if you want to start a thread about Matt Birk or Mike Priefer or Don Knotts and their views, go right ahead - this one was ostensibly about Torii Hunter.
  25. The LGBT community's continued struggle for equal rights is a serious topic to me. In my opinion it is the civil rights movement of our generation. I dislike Torii Hunter's (very public) opinions on the issue as much as I would be offended by someone 50 years ago being outspoken about their opposition to interracial marriage or how they would be made uncomfortable to share a locker room with a black teammate.
