What I saw at the draft prospects rankings it was #1 Crew, #2 Langford, #3 Skenes, #4 Jenkins & #5 Clark. PIT drafted Skenes #1 in hope of slight under-slot. But Skenes turned out to be the best prospect by far. I like how Jenkins is projecting & the focus is letting him develop as a hitter before the slugging, which limits his Ks. There is no way that Jenkins's defense dethrones Buxton off CF. Keep him at the cOF until Buxton is gone & let there be competition for CF.

As I stated Eris, I also think there's a path for the Twins to be competitive if they don't trade away Ryan & Lopez or getting back equivelent (which would be difficult). The last 2 years, I had hoped that the Twins would advance well into the postseason. But the lack of supplementing our needs during the offseason, poor managing & developing, I predicted both years we wouldn't make the playoffs. It took years for the Twins to develop the BP to where it was. It took years for Correa to develop his expertise at SS (positioning, etc). Bader was important to make our OF stronger, Castro provided much needed depth at key positions. We'll lose valuable defense in Vazquez. Yes, the young players have shown some chemistry, agressive baserunning & clutch hitting to pull off some wins. But IMO, it's not enough to overcome the inferior INF & catching, fragile rotation & gutted BP. & most of all our incapable management. So, my expectations even before the offseason starts that we'll have a much worse '26. I hope they don't trade away Ryan or Lopez because as this big sell-off I don't trust Falvey to make the needed trades. Our biggest hinderance is Falvey & Co, nothing will get better until they're gone. I'm glad you're hopeful for '26, I am not.

The strategy of many teams against the Twins is to throw LHPs against them. Today Twins scored all their runs against LHPs. Good game, against a very good team but I'd rather have them win their series against a weaker struggling NYY & keep them struggling than their series win against SD, who's battling LAD.

With the prospects that the Twins picked up during the sell-off, I don't see us being competitive next season (Falvey promised that we'll be competitive, but I don't believe anything he says). IMO, Ryan doesn't want to stick around. Hope they keep Pablo just for the veteran presence. Our farm will be bloated with redundant players & prospects that we won't be able to develop & Falvey hates to trade for needed players. They'll waste away in the minors or lose to the Rule 5 draft even if we don't trade anybody else. I don't trust Falvey to trade for any impact player that we need. We weren't able to compete with the incomplete past core under Falvey, how can we compete with an even further fractured core? The best thing we can do is clean house in management & let the next FO figure it out.

Jenkins seems to hit a wall in his projectory in AAA. Small sample size but confident he'll break through. AAA doesn't really breed confidence as far as seeing pitching reinforcements ready to break down the door to MLB. Defense also seems to be lacking at some points.

Should the Twins Bring Back Luis Arraez?
Doctor Gast replied to Matthew Taylor's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
I'm a big fan of Arraez, but like you said he's a diminishing one-dimensional player. His light/contact hitting/ slow running 1Bman doesn't fit. Another Boras client, he'll cost more than what he's worth. Constantly looking outside the organization has hurt us. We have so many candidates who can solidify 1B if given the opportunity. But I don't put it by the Twins to sign Arraez, unfortunately. After such a drastic sell-off it's ridiculous to consider FA. We have bigger needs that can be solved via trade. -
Another carrot was dangled in front of us to try to inspire hope. Waiting another 1 1/2 years is too late; change should have happened years ago. You don't keep doubling down on a failed process; you shut it down pronto. Hope based on luck isn't sustainable. The league has the book out on Falvey, Baldelli, & their philosophies. Nothing is going to change until there is a change from the top down, sooner the better. Or you'll lose future generational fans, casual fans & even hardcore fans. They'll find something better to occupy their time. Which is very sad

Always a pleasure to see Arraez hit yet still win the game. Great offense driven by getting on base & clutch singles.

I like Wallner, IMO, he has improved both defensively & offensively. It's easy to get impatient with him, but I blame it more on the lack of development. Somebody claimed that those who don't like Wallner are those who think defense is everything. But I claim that those who love Wallner are those who think OPS is the true standard for how good a player is & ignore everything else. RF isn't a premium position, so defense is less of a factor (but still is a factor). I have always advocated the Brewers' way of playing baseball, which defense & clutch hitting are more important in winning games than hitting a bunch of HRs when you don't need them & striking out when you need a hit. I have no idea how they figure WPA, but most of the time they seem off, especially with - WPA. IMO, OPS or even WAR aren't a true indicator of value. Somehow they have to come up with a better stat that includes a better defensive stat with clutch hitting & baserunning to better gauge value. & how do you measure the intangibles? I'll still go with my eye.

IMO, Twins aren't trading Jeffers because of his present salary but because of his future extension salary. So instead of letting him walk for nothing in FA next season, they trade him for something this season. Rutschman has an extra year on his contract. Catchers need a lot of time to get familiar with the pitchers, so teams don't like to trade for a new catcher at the deadline. If they are desperate, they'll usually go with bargain basement.
-
Thanks, TopGun, I'm glad you appreciated it. If we're going to trade Ryan, I want to make sure we get young players who can make an impact now & be part of the core in the future (not a bunch of prospects we throw against the wall to see who sticks). IMO, Rutschman, when given time to heal & have a more reasonable workload; will bonce back & be that elite catcher, I expect him to be. IMO, BAL isn't motivated to trade Rutschman, but if we dangle Ryan, they may bite. Again, I don't want to trade Ryan just to trade him like they did this deadline with our players.

In a low-hitting game, happy to see Miranda & Keirsey got back on track with big clutch HRs to secure the win on Rojas's good outing.

By all means, the Twins should go all in on Rutschman. He's an elite catcher that was overloaded his early years & now is paying for it. This an excellent buy low candidate. Boras isn't his agent so this could be a good time to lock him up. If I were BAL, I wouldn't be selling low, especially since Basallo is very questionable behind the plate. I doubt Falvey will put together a reasonable offer. So I quit dreaming. But good article.

Blue Jays 9, Twins 8: Welcome to Thunderdome
Doctor Gast replied to Eric Blonigen's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
Thanks Eric, like the Twins, your article was very interesting. Exciting offense, this is how MN should be playing baseball. Too bad the defense wasn't that good, SWR was rushed too soon to MLB & Cabrera isn't ready for MLB. -
I'm sorry, this is the story, sad but true. With the lockout coming in '27, they'll trade Ryan (who'd probably want to be traded) & hold onto Lopez as a veteran presence & trade at the deadline. So all the presumed SPs hopefully stick in MLB. Those who don't start should be long relief/ spot start. I see Preilipp as the closer & Raya maybe set up. As always will be busy on the waiver wire.

Thank you Nick for covering the Twins all these years, giving us thought-provoking articles & founding TD. I was a big Flavine fan. I loved '19 but I criticized them that Cave was no CFer & we needed one with Buxton on the IL frequently. Arraez wasn't a 2Bman & Polanco didn't have the ankles to play SS. I was greatly criticized for my criticism. Until now, I still believe mispositioning players is one of Falvey's biggest faults. IMO, '19 went to Falvey's head, instead of promoting the great coaches we had, he let them walk & hired poor coaches that adhered more to his weird analytical philosophies, often extending & promoting them. Popkins was a good coach he'd blame & let go. Players' evaluation & development have been bad. He can't see the team's needs, initiate & close on critical trades, It's never been about the players, as some try to advocate. So there are no players that I see that can step up & overcome the deficit in management. We could fire Baldelli, but Falvey would hire someone worse, probably Tingler. I'd be open to keep Falvey only on the business & pitching side & even Baldelli as bench-coach but IMO, It's too late for that right now, it's too toxic right now & would be better to clean house from Falvey down. To answer your question, who could bring hope back, where I start watching games again? We can get rid of Falvey & Co but what hope do we have that'll find a good FO? My answer would be Drew MacPhail. Have Andy MacPhail as at least as interim & if he's open put him in at president of baseball operations, to mentor Drew. I have advocated this for years. Don't wait until the end of the season. I didn't trust Falvey to be in charge of the deadline sell-off, how would I continue to trust him to continue the sell-off & the rebuild? I expect a turn around in the atmoshere, once this is done. I trust them to get the right people in the right places. Once the foundation is strong, then I'll start hoping & watchin the Twins again not before.

One of the biggest problems with the Twins is lack of enthusiasm. You do not disturb the pitcher & wait for him to make a mistake on his own. That kind of philosophy we make average pitchers look like aces. We want our players to play with enthusiasm & aggression on the bases but they need be trained & coached correctly by coaches who know what they are doing. It appeared that the ball was going to drop in for a hit. Martin goal was to score from 2B, Martin needs to get direction from Watkins & what Gasper is doing. Gasper had no right dancing around 3B (he'd score either way, so tag up). Off the bat, Watkins should have had Gasper tagging up & quick to send Martin back to 2B. Because of the delay in direction it caused confusion. Many fans believe coaches are there only to hand out data & the players are responsible for applying it. While others believe that the young players are responsible for figuring things out for themselves & coaches are insignificant. So why have coaches at all? But I'm in the camp that especially young players need all the help they can get. They need coaches & veterans that have a lot of baseball experience & able to convey that to the players. To have the data & also be there to help them to apply it correctly. We were down 4-0 (w/o Buxton), we didn't win the game by playing a reserved, boring game (IMO, we know by now that doesn't work). We won it by being enthusiastic, we shouldn't criticize our players for being so, but they need to be encouraged & better coached.

To have a decent running game you need a lot of help from the base coaches. Twins aren't getting it from their coaches; they are more of a hindrance than a help. Last game I watched, speedy Keaschall should have stolen 2B but he looked confused & apprehensive. He didn't even make an attempt.

Besides Buxton defensively, we are hurting. Catching is a mess, we'll end up with FA another Vazquez or 2 to fill the void there. I love Keaschall's bat, but he's not a 2Bman, I'd play him more 1B/ DH this season & in '26 put him in LF. IDK how soon Jenkins or K Culpepper are ready for MLB & if Emma is physically dependable. It'd be a very bad look to trade Lewis, but his complaining (which I completely understand) might not sit well with management. I'd give Lewis a shot at 1B as well. We don't know if Lopez or Ryan will be around. I didn't trust Falvey with this last sell-off & don't trust him for the next or rebuild. With Falvey & Co. there's no hope.

Yes, but we got momentum on our side. In such a short time, we made up a lot of ground. We should quickly pass ATL & we have all Sept. to pass PIT. It's too much to hope to pass the CWS. Yeigh, Falvey! Go, Twins!

It's all part of propaganda to convince fans that Falvey knows what he's doing. That acquiring Margot was actually a good deal. I don't think it worked.

I have pretty much given up watching the Twins for a while now. Not because of our players, I still cheer them on. But how Falvey & Co. operate by ignoring defense & keep showing favoritism of their players over more deserving players, all to the detriment of the team.
