  1. Dom Smith should move on to a senior men's league. As for who hits RH pitching, that would be Jose Miranda if Ty France falls down.
  2. Seems like the wheel of fortune has pointed to the Twins needing Miranda and Julien to perform at their best, whatever that is, all offseason for success in 2025. The idea that the Twins would allow a rookie a lineup position was never a consideration even if one was available and one needs to squint pretty hard to see the bats of Lee or Castro being much above average. Gasper was fun for a week and will be kept around after he heals if others fail. Time will tell, but it looks pretty certain that Miranda and Julien have an opportunity. How they react will largely determine their careers.
  3. Either use the ABS system on every pitch or don't use it at all. If MLB does not use the ABS system, reward the umpires financially for excellence and train/ demote those who don't meet a certain mark. We have already seen umpires appear a little edgy on so many correct challenges on very close pitches and when the challenges ran out the calls were sloppier. I don't believe the umpires like the challenge system. I think they would prefer another setup. On my height, I'm 6'-6" and 140 pounds since I can just lie about it.
  4. Does Jeferson Morales make the team?
  5. There was people who wondered about how many plays affect outs. ST game, not all starters but here is a report on just a couple of innings. Martin made a running catch that only Bader makes (so a plus). Gasper doesn't react on a single. makes a bad throw, and runs into Winokur on ground ball (so a minus 3). Miranda has a poor reach on a bad throw (I'm giving him a minus 1). Alvarez with a base running mistake. While I'm not using the system I once used as a coach it is reflective of how I scored plays and tells a partial story. BTW, no errors from official scorer for Twins. Sadly, Gasper was injured and had to take the cart to the clubhouse. Hope he is ok. Gasper is a fun story and was set to make the team at the beginning of the day.
  6. Winokur gives the lineup an actual player we can look forward to watching on both sides of the game.
  7. Lee to IL means Gasper is a Twin (most likely). Where he plays is a question since the Twins are stuffed at the DH position (Buck, Carlos, and Wallner from time to time along with the other fitted there: France, Miranda, Julien, Larnach, Martin, Castro, and Gasper). Rocco has his work cut out for himself.
  8. Good one Nick. I had commented recently in a Lewis or Lee thread that I couldn't even believe people were questioning the knowledge and expertise of sports training staff. I half expected an article spoofing those criticisms. Too bad you have to identify this post as humor. It is timely and provided a good chuckle.
  9. My answer is convoluted, but I will respond. The Twins won't play Martin in the infield and have never shown a sliver of respect for Keirsey Jr. Under that dark cloud, Martin gets the outfield position. There will be a few times where Martin pinch runs for someone and he has the ability to score from second base on a base hit, which can win a game. The other choice is easy for me. Julien is a terrible fielder, but his ability to turn a ground ball into an out actually far surpasses Gasper in the infield. Gasper looks way better because he just shuffles around, but he doesn't really move much. The Twins may keep Gasper though because he was one of their big offseason pickups. The Falvey era has greatly disappointed me in so many ways. I have read many comments lauding the front office and watched as the team struggles with their player choices and style of baseball. The current situation at second base is just one poster as was Larnach stopping at second base yesterday on a two out slow ground ball single into right field. At this point, I'm not even interested in any ideas, debates, or perspectives on this front office. What we see at second base is representative of their plan.
  10. This made me laugh out loud. Perfect encapsulation of how some, maybe many, Twins Daily readers/commenters feel about Martin and Julien. Yet, it is an easy call for Baldelli if the Twins are trying to win games. I would guess the decision has already been made.
  11. The Twins made so much money off of Joe Mauer that it makes any discussion of his contract superfluous. Mauer was the best bargain of the Pohlad era from a financial point of view.
  12. Well, giveaways are the definition of lame in the first place. I mean a roomful of bobbleheads may impress the guys but it looks a little silly. Keep life simple.
  13. Eddie needs to work on the bat angle. He has been ok thus far in ST, but his opportunity is attached to line drives.
  14. Larnach practicing poor baserunning in ST. Yikes.
  15. Call the Julien gives me heartburn hotline or text/call/write to RpT (President of the society) for information on the heeling process. He is not doing so well but may provide help. Your mental health and close personal friends will be relieved when you take the proper action.
  16. The idea of Mickey making the 26 person roster makes me gasp. Er, you know what I mean.
  17. The Twins have Lewis up until his year 30 season or 3 more after this year. There will not be cause to commit for more than a year to year salary for Royce. In the meantime one can hope Royce finds a level of competence as a corner infielder and can become a good bat for the #5 or #6 slot in a lineup.
  18. Brooks Lee is not indispensable or essential to the Twins. Carlos Correa is the key. While it is preferable by me and many others for Brooks Lee to be available to play successfully for the Twins, the team has other players on the roster and in the minor leagues whose talents are not horrible far from what Lee has provided thus far. Every MLB team has injuries and need to fill those lost IL roster spots. When i look over the list of players who will miss several weeks or longer across baseball it seems like the Twins are in a decent spot right now. If Correa, Buxton, Lopez, and Ryan go down the Twins will have some concerns to iron out. Let's hope the injuries stay minor and not get too worried in late March.
  19. I'm not picking on your thoughts or arguments, but merely responding to the specific sentence I quoted. Never a good idea to make vast assumptions. You may be correct but there may be more than a few experts that read Twins Daily. FWIW, I'm not an expert. Sport specific weight training has been around for much more than a quarter century for every sport and for both genders. I can't believe people have such strong opinions on this topic. The steroid era was created and promoted by media, management, and money and many players went along for the ride because they have short careers to make their cash and it was legal. In baseball it is called The Selig Era. Injuries happen .... they always did. Many more players were injured in my high school years in the 60s/70s than were ever injured during my decades of coaching. I credit the dedicated sports training personnel for their work. While I myself and many of my peers were abused in the name of toughness or "be a man", I can proudly say I never abused an athlete or put winning above an individual's health. The trainers today are incredible well educated / outstanding and athletes prepare in ways they feel will be conducive to performance. Some players may over prepare, if that is a thing, but I believe it is done in an honest effort to be their best selves. Maybe a little empathy is all that we should have for an injured player instead of looking for blame. It's a bumper sticker: Sh*t Happens.
  20. Winokur made the 6-3 DP look as easy as anyone could. He is quick.
  21. Impressively did not swing at a slider just off the plate. Solid line drive. Spring Training - where two batters wear the same uniform number on first and third (#11 - Winokur & Gasper). Funny stuff.
  22. Hard to know if Lee will be on IL at this time. To your request, I would definitely keep Julien and Martin among the four players in the interest of winning games. Others will totally disagree with me and you should expect a wide number of choices between those four players.
  23. This is fair. We should all be aware that Max Kepler gave a number of people on TD some serious cases of alarm (baseball ptsd), but Kepler was an excellent regular. If Jenkins is Kepler, that's ok. Maybe he can even be better. Prospects are of interest to a number of baseball fans. I'm a guy who follows prospects and minor league baseball. The rankings are just for fun. I don't see them as a religion. If people are not interested in the rankings or prospects they should skip those articles and posts to avoid irritation.
