The Pohlads will explore selling the team
Riverbrian replied to Vanimal46's topic in Minnesota Twins Talk
So... this would be generation generalizations? -
I don't anything about Arnold Schoenberg other than his work in the Terminator movies. However... In the Rock world that I'm much more familiar with. The exploitation of innovation reaches a point of exhaustion and that exhaustion produces the next wave, In 1967... Brian Wilson's Pet Sounds was innovation. Sgt. Peppers was innovation. Jimi Hendrix was an innovator in 1967. The Doors as well. After they changed the landscape... the copycats came, the industry searched for copycats to hopefully reproduce the success while new bands dug the sound. Until exhaustion produced Jim Croce, Bread and the Carpenters until which exhausted itself into Disco and Corporate Rock and so forth. The Twins application of analytics might be in the Disco phase. There doing something different and it's selling some records but it may be short lived.

In my opinion... Relocation is currently very difficult. Again in my opinion... it's mainly because the owners have the country carved up and will stand in the way of teams entering their extended backyards. Seattle would fight a move to Portland. Atlanta would fight a move to Nashville much like Baltimore fought and had to be compensated for the move to Washington DC. Much like San Francisco fought Oakland moving to San Jose. Relocation is a rare thing in baseball and I think this was a big reason why. Now that the blackout restrictions are hopefully heading toward extinction across the entire baseball landscape. The odds of relocation just might increase accordingly. As for the thought of a new owner possibly relocating. Sure... It's a possibility. It's also a possibility that the Pohlads could relocate if they remain the owners. I'm not going to worry about that with ownership change. I'm not going to worry about it if they remain. However... don't get lost in market size as a preventative. Market size is a strong consideration but if Memphis comes a calling offering a brand new stadium with additional modern revenue streams in the package that don't exist at Target Field. They can make up the 10 million dollars less in audience and then some. . And keep in mind... Reports are that MLB teams will be making less in the future with RSN's dead and gone so the market size advantages may lessen a bit as a result. Also... Baseball Markets are regional. When trying to determine audience size... Don't think Market... think the entire territory. Will they remain regional in the new upcoming landscape of product distribution. I don't know but let's find out.

Why the Twins Might Need to Trade Carlos Correa
Riverbrian replied to Cody Christie's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
I know that the Giants and Mets offered more to Correa than the Twins did and I also know that Correa agreed to both offers. You typed "Backed Out" in your post. Do you not know what "Backed out" means? -
I love your composer comparables. Falvey/Lavine/Baldelli. IMO... Codifiers. The designation of codifier comes from how they seem to weight certain things and then go on a drinking binge with those certain things that they may have overweighted. I describe it this way. The Doctor (Data) may tell them that a glass of wine is good for them. They seem to take the doctors advice to heart by drinking 4 bottles a night which may not be good for them. For example... the left vs left platoon split. They have taken the same data that all teams have... over weighted it and are platooning to an extreme beyond what other teams are doing with the same data. Before that... the Twins had an extreme reaction to pitchers and the third time through the order. The data supports starting pitchers not doing so well the third time through. The Twins take the application of that data to a new level... beyond what other teams were doing with the same data. The data may say that a glass of wine is good for you but they got a brown paper bag on that bottle as they carry it around with them all day. Are they testing the perimeters by being an extreme version of this followed by an extreme version of that? I don't know. From my chair it just seems to create other unintended issues. Protecting your lefties as caused your right handed hitters to become exposed. Protecting your starters from the third time through the order exposed the bullpen. Anyway... I loved your post. I love the open sound of a suspended 4th. But have some balance though... don't hang out there all day... come back to the major third. Margot going 0 for 30 as a pinch hitter is being in a suspended state of dissonance with no resolve.

Why the Twins Might Need to Trade Carlos Correa
Riverbrian replied to Cody Christie's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
Are you saying that Correa decided not to play for the Giants and Mets? Are you saying that the Twins could trade the entire Correa contract to the Giants and Mets because they we're willing to pay more? -
I couldn't name any of her songs... But Damn It... I'm a Swiftie. More power to her. She wrote the songs... they belong to her and she got them back. I couldn't name any of those songs... but... More Power to her. I'm a Swiftie. Go Chiefs!!! Ok Not that Far... But I'm a Swiftie.

I agree with Nick... Baseball isn't the greatest sports investment at the moment. The cable deals are struggling because the demo's are struggling. I'm investing in the Loons if it was my call. I also agree with you Mike... It's a pretty safe investment especially in 1984. I'd imagine that if there is no future value... nobody is buying at 1.5 million or whatever price is agreed upon. I'd imagine that someone is going to buy so things are fine on that end. However... the point remains the same. Unless they are incredibly bad at it and invest in apartment complexes for Camels in Vermont. These folks with money are going to turn 44 million into a lot more money over 4 decades. 1.5 Billion shouldn't shock anyone. Money makes more money. In 1984 coming out of high school... I invested 44 dollars in Eggs. Those Eggs are worth 8,000 dollars now. Turned them into Chickens and Buffalo Wild Wings is charging me 28 Dollars for a dozen wings in 2024. The Eggs were a good investment... Spending the profit on Buffalo Wings was not.

I'm with ya. Lots of people point out the valuation change over decades. They may be missing a few considerations. Lesson #1: Money tends to make Money. They could have dropped 44 Million into Home Depot in 1984 and done much better. They could have taken that 44 Million and built a company that produces rabbits out of hats and be valued at much more. Lesson #2: Money tends to make more money.

Great Post The Orioles were purchased by a group of 9 people. Rubenstein is the principle owner but there are at least 8 others involved in the purchase... including a very wealthy Michael Bloomberg along with Cal Ripken and Grant Hill. The Orioles obviously had a plan to tear it down and build it back up... however... with many young talented pieces in place... they are currently 20 million behind the Twins in payroll for 2024. The only reason I bring this up. Those expecting a major change... might be in for a surprise. The surprise would actually be major change. Just a new principle owner that the fans will be upset with in the future.

Why the Twins Might Need to Trade Carlos Correa
Riverbrian replied to Cody Christie's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
You better hurry. You never when the other teams are going to call me. I had a missed call from the Rays last night. Turned out it was two guys named Ray who share a phone. -
Why the Twins Might Need to Trade Carlos Correa
Riverbrian replied to Cody Christie's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
That's why Derek hasn't called me to gauge interest. I've been waiting for the phone call. Well... if they don't hire a GM... That's a million bucks to throw into the player pool. -
Twins' Biggest Roster Needs for 2025
Riverbrian replied to Matthew Lenz's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
Left Handed Reliver... A GOOD ONE... top of the pile. Tanner Scott free agent or trading for Puk or Strahm. If the team is going to do any retooling of offense. Speed: I'd like some Speed added to the team for better balance. Baserunning/Stolen Bases are a part of the game now. Left Handed Hitters... More left handers than they can platoon. Forcing organizational change and improving our odds against the 75% in regards to left handed hitters facing left handed pitchers. I'd love to see 7 left handers in a lineup against a right handed pitcher. -
Why the Twins Might Need to Trade Carlos Correa
Riverbrian replied to Cody Christie's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
The Twins are capable of anything in the off-season. Depending on how they feel about the team going forward and what input the the new GM has. Lots of wildcards to get sorted here. With that said. I'd be shocked if they moved Correa. They would have to include cash or a decent prospect to make the deal. Always remember... The reason we got Correa in the first place was because we were the team willing to pay more than others were willing to pay. This means most likely that no team is willing to take on his contract as it stands and I'm not sure that two seasons with significant injury down time is going to make the contract more palatable to other teams... although it does lessen the year commitment. This all means... that the return in a trade is minimal. In other words... Find other sources of raising cash if you must raise cash. -
Jair Camargo was up for 21 games. He was given 7 plate appearances. Now I understand that Christian Vazquez is the greatest defensive catcher on the planet. However it should be noted that his offensive production was to the tune of .575 OPS over 315 Plate Appearances. It cost us 30 million to bring that offensive production to town. Yet... Camargo got 7 trips to the plate. He wasn't allowed to try and OPS. 576. Spent 21 games on the MLB roster. Why do I bring this up. We have done a horrible job developing Catching when Vazquez has become irreplicable. Acquiring Catching is expensive. 30 million will get you 315 plate appearances.

If that is what Reusse is saying... Yeah... I agree. If they want to bring in players... Go bigger or go home. Margot Types... Not necessary.

I'm with ya. We are not going to sign a top end starter so the youngsters are key and I am really excited about the bullpen as it stands. Just want that left handed dude to bring it home. If they can't land the top left handed dude... just don't Okert into that hole. Stay with the right handers. Yep... offense is what we need and I'm just praying that they stop trying to fill the offensive spaces with specialists so we got a chance to improve the offense.
