More free nationally televised Twins games!
Riverbrian replied to DJL44's topic in Minnesota Twins Talk
I can't speak for MLB. My opinion isn't worth much. Just guessing that it would have to be the goal. Right now there are 12 teams suffering through this current mess. The Twins have a 1 year deal and some of those 12 teams have deals that extend well beyond this year. MLB has recently filed in bankruptcy court that the loss of comcast will be "insurmountable" for Diamond. They are using the court to try to get Diamond to reveal exactly how they can survive this and MLB doesn't believe they can. This leaves me to believe that they want off the sinking ship as quickly as possible. However... I was sleeping during law school so my opinion isn't worth much. -
Sentence 1 - Martin could play LF while Kirilloff plays 1B. Martin can play 3B if necessary. Sentence 2 - He hasn't really but the larger point is that we have some players on the roster who also don't deserve large amounts of playing time so we need someone who actually deserves it and can push those players who are struggling. If Martin isn't going to be utilized to push players who need pushing... he's a waste of a roster spot. So send him down yesterday. Buxton can't get here soon enough.

I wish I could tell you that the team is just performing so well that Austin just can't get work because we are loaded beyond that consideration. While we are winning just fine... from an individual player performance standpoint... we have individuals who could yield some playing time. Kirilloff is slumping terribly at the moment, Miranda is just doing barely OK. Santana is playing every day! There is opportunity to work Martin in. They are not working him in. Buxton can't get here soon enough. The absolute commitment to the left/right split remains the playing time decision maker. Martin is simply on the short side of that thing.

Who Can Fill the Bottom of the Bullpen?
Riverbrian replied to Cody Pirkl's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
As long as anyone thinks of it as the bottom of the pen. It doesn't matter who you put in there because it isn't going to work anyway. There is nowhere to hide in the bullpen.- 13 replies

Performance issues aside. Martin has 15 PA's since he was called back up 12 games ago. He needs to be in St. Paul immediately. Buxton returning should do the trick. After that... I'd be hesitant to call him up when the next injury strikes if 15 AB's in over 12 games is all that he is going to see.

I'm not using any metrics but as far as I can tell without them... Castro's arm has to be better than a 2.

The Dodgers and Twins set up similarly. The Dodgers utilize 3 platoon sets which leaves 5 players for every day duty. The Twins utilize 4 platoon sets which takes the every day player number down to 3. There is a stark difference between the L.A. 5 and the Minnesota 3. Ohtani, Betts, Freeman, Teoscar and Pages compared to Correa, Castro and Santana.

Castro, Santana and Correa are our current versions. Miranda might be sliding into a 4th everyday guy. The other 10 or 9 players on the roster get rest.

More free nationally televised Twins games!
Riverbrian replied to DJL44's topic in Minnesota Twins Talk
When the Bally sales team hits the streets to sell those Twins ad packages. The ratings, number of viewers determine how much they can charge. Kinetico pays X amount based upon X amount of households. Comcast has the majority of households. Kinetico isn't getting what they paid for and therefore most likely... not paying. Most of us don't know what new excuse Travis is going to use to get some water from his neighbors. If Kinetico doesn't pay and they shouldn't... Bally can't pay the Twins. Diamond can't survive this... Yet those blackouts remain while Diamond/Bally delays the inevitable and sets us all free. The first step is going to court just to put pressure on Diamond. Getting Diamond to admit they can't survive. It's going to take a long time just to get that answer just so MLB can move to the next step toward the eventual goal of getting every single team out of all contracts with Diamond. I'm really getting screwed here and I'm really going to be screwed for awhile. Because I'm guessing Diamond is going to take their time. -
Everybody's work load is being managed... Other than: Correa, Santana and Castro.

More free nationally televised Twins games!
Riverbrian replied to DJL44's topic in Minnesota Twins Talk
In my case... it isn't just my decision. My wife doesn't watch much baseball but my wife has a say in the entertainment coming into our world. I know... I'm a softy. If I end up cutting the cord over this and I'm preparing to. I've got to make sure that whatever we do works for her. At the moment... I'm not going to uproot our world over a couple of companies staring at each other across a table. I'm waiting for the permanent move and that permanent move should have occurred this off-season. I absolutely blame the Twins for putting me in this position... even if just a temporary disruption. When they come back... I may not be. My wife and I will decide when the details are revealed. -
David Festa is an MLB-Ready Top 100 Prospect
Riverbrian replied to Jamie Cameron's topic in Twins Minor League Talk
This is how it is supposed to work. The more Festa's they can produce. The less Bundy's they have to sign and the less DeSclafani's they have to trade for. The less money spent on the Bundy's and DeSclafini's on the roster... the more money available to sign the Ober's to an extension. I believe it is quite possible that we were lucky that DeSclafini got hurt. He got himself out of the way by doing so. Sometimes injuries can make the team better. -
Why do the Minnesota Twins Hate Jorge Alcalá?
Riverbrian replied to Matthew Taylor's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
There are probably stats that will show how Alcala has done in the 2nd inning of work compared to the 1st inning of work. I don't know what those metrics say because I need my bifocals to read them.- 47 replies

Why do the Minnesota Twins Hate Jorge Alcalá?
Riverbrian replied to Matthew Taylor's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
I'd wait until he actually struggles. Burn the last option on an earned demotion. I'm not burning the last option on a pitcher that is PITCHING GOOD for a routine almost clerical... fresh arm needed... roster shuffle type move. I'm in no rush to turn him into Jay Jackson status. No rush to reduce your options down to absorb struggles or lose him entirely with years of control dripping out of his ears. He's pitching good. Let him continue.- 47 replies

Is it time... Rose and Joe Jackson in HOF?

I agree with this. Place it in the basement. Put flames on the wall if you'd like. Spooky sounds from the speakers. It will be the most visited area of Cooperstown.- 27 replies

Yankees (Rodon) vs Twins (Paddack): 5/14/24, 6:40pm
Riverbrian replied to Brock Beauchamp's topic in Archived Game Threads
Ahh the lineup is out and it's the Vazquez lineup. So... Kepler with his 1.172 OPS over the past 15 days is on the bench. Well... on the bright side... umm... on the bright side... (Pause) Umm (Pause) Well... Just think happy thoughts!!! -

If Buxton is activated... Martin would be sent down I assume. My guess would then be... Buxton in CF and Castro in LF. -

I agree with you... So that puts Jeffers behind the plate tonight with Kepler in RF. Jeffers will probably get the day off tomorrow. -
Why do the Minnesota Twins Hate Jorge Alcalá?
Riverbrian replied to Matthew Taylor's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
Maybe... but you may need it next year and if things are going well this year you don't need to burn it. So... why put yourself in that position. If I had the job... it would at least be a consideration.- 47 replies

Yankees (Rodon) vs Twins (Paddack): 5/14/24, 6:40pm
Riverbrian replied to Brock Beauchamp's topic in Archived Game Threads
With Rodon on the hill... the lineup is pretty much set with only the order to be ordered. The only question in my mind is will Kepler or Vazquez start. Kepler has been hot and Vazquez caught yesterday so Rocco might drop Kepler in against the lefty tonight with Jeffers behind the dish. Rocco also might be thinking about how to manage Jeffers catching load and keep his bat in the lineup all three games against the Bombers with two right handed starters to follow. Would he catch Jeffers back to back Wednesday night followed by a Thursday day game? If he would... Vazquez is playing tonight. Unless there are some health issues that I don't know about With Kepler in the lineup DH - Margot C - Jeffers 1B - Santana 2B - Farmer 3B - Miranda SS - Correa LF - Martin CF - Castro RF - Kepler With Vazquez in the lineup DH - Jeffers C - Vazquez 1B - Santana 2B - Farmer 3B - Miranda SS - Correa LF - Martin CF - Castro RF - Margot I'm going to guess Kepler is in the lineup tonight. The Yankees have two left handers in the pen. One threw 21 pitches yesterday and neither of them are high leverage guys so I think that Rocco will have Julien and Kirilloff pinch hit as soon as Rodon is removed from the game.
