Look up the top 30 Cleveland Prospects last year on MLB.com. Count how many of them are on the current 2024 roster. The Answer is 9 The best record in baseball in 2024 has 9 out of their 26 players on the roster who were ranked prospects in Cleveland's system in 2023. Once you look at what the youth is doing in Cleveland. Don't look at Margot. You develop kidney stones if you do.

I have no problem with that path either... other than the price being young prospects which could leave a future hole just to patch a current hole. Either way... we need to produce either a player or produce a trade chip in our pipeline and we will need to produce more than one. Every Bundy we sign to eat innings at a 5.00 ERA gets in the away of finding more than one.

Twelve year old me wasn't at that game but I can tell you that Rod Carew was my hero and still my favorite Twin ever. In 1977 I spent almost the entire baseball season trying to copy Rod Carew's batting stance. It was my only bad year at the plate and I do blame Rod for this.

We are not signing Gerrit Cole this off-season or anyone like him. I'm reasonably sure of that. I absolutely do not want to sign innings eaters like DeSclafini or Bundy. The only solution to this is to develop pitchers. It's the only way that we will end up with a pitcher like Gerrit Cole in the future. The pipeline produces or we will draft very high the following year. Festa getting a 40 man roster spot and the ball on Thursday is how it is supposed to work... It's how it needs to work.

They will need to try out youngsters when the injuries occur. They will have no choice. We are healthy now... We won't be in the future. The day is coming and it will be necessary to stay in the race for the wildcard. When that day comes... That's when the Lee discussion starts... That's when Wallner walks back in... or Julien walks back in. I don't see the Twins moving on from Margot and Farmer so injuries is what will open the door IMO. I'd rather see Lee get some more AAA AB's added to his resume but if the time is coming soon... it's coming soon. However... if you consider that we will have 4 open positions next year to fill and little money to spend... it's important to point out that Lee can only fill one of them. Lee with 64 AB's at the AAA level leapfrogging Wallner or Julien who we will also need next year isn't ideal in my opinion.

I can wait on Lee a little but we will need to see him before the season is done. Hope he keeps hitting the ball in St. Paul. In the meantime... I'd like him to start playing much more at 2B and get Julien work at 1B. Ultimately I'd rather they don't sign Rosario and Refsnyder types this off-season. Unless they change style abruptly... they pretty much have to.

Farmer should be added to your list. Some key players Lewis, Ober, Ryan, Jax will be entering arbitration and getting significant raises. For Jeffers it's year #2 of Arbitration with a bump coming and Every Day Willi Castro will be in year #3 and a significant bump most likely coming. 2024 Payroll is around 129 Million 2025 Payroll is currently around 95 Million without Arbitration. The Arb bumps in pay will most likely eat up the majority of that 34 million difference between this year and what is on the books for next year. From the current roster... We will be down the 4 position players listed plus Thielbar in the bullpen. Unless any one expects a payroll jump... I don't. Therefore... I see no reason to think the Twins will be fishing in the big fish bay of the free agent lake this off-season. Therefore... those 4 position players will be filled by players from the farm or once again... cheaper... right handed hitting specialists to fill the Farmer and Margot roles. Probably a combination of... Because... Left Handed hitters Julien, Kirilloff and Wallner are still the players most likely to fill in from the farm and they require the right handed hitting handcuffs. Cheaper Free Agents like Amed Rosario and Rob Refsnyder are the type of free agent I expect to see the Twins Target. The Twins may have to shed Kirilloff (out of options) to make it work. Will Brooks Lee be fulltime on opening day? 2B is where he can get that full time work. Something like this? DH - Julien or Larnach/Lewis C - Jeffers and Vazquez 1B - Miranda 2B - Lee 3B - Lewis/Rosario SS - Correa LF - Castro/Martin CF - Buxton RF - Wallner or Larnach/Refsnyder Just a guess but I'm pretty sure Pete Alonso ain't showing up. I suspect we will need those youngsters to fill roster space and too many of them are left handed so Rosario and Refsnyder types have to take up roster spots. I'm sorry is this too soon? I realize that 2024 isn't over yet. You just got me thinking.

It's a rather impressive commitment to the bit. After running low on left handed hitters, the Twins are turning Austin Martin into a left handed hitter to fill the void. Austin is playing against right handed starting pitching and sitting against left handed starters. Here's the current platoon template. Vs. Right/Vs. Left DH - Larnach/Lewis C - Jeffers and Vazquez 1B - Santana 2B - Castro/Farmer 3B - Lewis/Miranda SS - Correa LF - Martin/Castro CF - Buxton RF - Kepler/Margot 5 Players are primarily every day against both hands: Santana, Correa, Buxton locking down 1B, SS and CF while Lewis( 3B against RH and DH against LH) plus Castro (2B against RH and LF against LH) handle two positions to make the platooning work. 6 players are primarily platooners. Kepler/Margot Larnach/Miranda Martin (right handed hitter)/Farmer Plus two catchers in a 50/50 every other day split to account for all 13 players. Miranda and Margot have been filling in against right handers when maintenance days are necessary. When Kirilloff went on the IL and Austin Martin replaced him... I mentioned that the roster composition shifted to low on left handed bats and over stocked on right handed bats. RH Hitters: 9 LH Hitters: 2 Switch Hitters: 2 That's 11 options to stand in the right handed batters box against left handed pitchers. Only 4 to do the opposite. Problem Solved: Turn Martin into a right handed hitting specialist. Impressive commitment to the bit.

87 K's in 59 Innings. I'm going with Festa. It's time to take a look at starter #7. Just to see what he can do before the trade deadline. It's critical intel for making informed decisions.

If Brooks is everything everyone is saying. He would have to be pretty damn close to untouchable in my opinion. In regards to his AAA utilization primarily at SS. If I were to guess. I don't think they are preparing for an immediate call up with Brooks Lee forcing his way on the roster. I think they are preparing for a Correa injury. If Correa gets hurt... Brooks might be the best option to take over that job full time while Correa spends time on the IL. If the injury happens at 2B or 3B and Brooks is clearly the guy to call up. I think they would adjust on the fly. Like they did with others in the past. Just a guess of course.

My overall problem (that the Twins are overcoming so far) is going to be the roster set up in the off-season. They set up this roster so they had no choice but to ride Julien and Kirilloff and they put themselves in this position by paying 6 million to Farmer and trading for Margot. If they send Julien down... who takes that left handed role to pair with Farmer? If they send Kirilloff down... who takes that left handed role to pair with Margot? They painted themselves into this corner. Miranda and Martin are right handed. Emmanuel Rodriquez is the only extra left handed bat on the 40 man roster, He's exciting but only 21 and still in AA. Brooks Lee is a switch hitter and such a highly ranked prospect that he should not be platooned if he ever gets called up but it's the role needed when Julien is sent down to AAA. Wallner for Larnach was an easy move. Both left handed hitters that can be swapped for each other. After that... it's much harder and what they are those left handed hitters are down in the minors now. In order to justify Farmer and Margot now. Kepler has to be platooned. Larnach will never start against a Right Hander. With Kepler injured... Martin has to take on the role of the guy who faces right handers and sits against left handers because we have more guys in the right handers batters box than we have slots in the lineup card. A lot is happening to justify the presence of Farmer and Margot on this roster and that justification is a lot harder when all of the left handed hitters went away. My opinion (which could change... give me time) since the Twins set up this way... see it through especially since they are seemingly overcoming it (The Team offense stats are decent in comparison with the league) but don't do it again next off-season.

The (cash strapped) Rays paid the (more money than they know what to do with) Dodgers 2 Million in the Glasnow/Margot deal. They also committed to paying the 2 million Margot opt out if the Dodgers declined his option next season. The Dodgers paid the Twins 6 million to take Margot plus the 2 million dollar opt out. That's essentially two clubs willing to pay other teams to take him. Value... He has none. He will be bought out at the end of the season. His only value is if he can win some games for us this year. Here's to hoping that he provides some value in that department but with 57 AB's in the month of June. The value provided won't add up too much.

I agree with you when you say "Weather a guy is an experienced playoff vet or in his 2nd year matters to people managing organizations". It sure seems to be the case. However... in my opinion... An experienced playoff vet should only matter if he is performing like a experienced vet should. Kyle Farmer has produced an .804 OPS in June over 31 plate appearances. He's been productive of late. At least in 14 plate appearances in the role he is supposed to play. Since June: 31 PA's - .308/.419/,385 Vs RH - 17 Plate Appearances - .200/.294/.333 VS LH - 14 Plate Appearances - .455/.571/.455 That's the role he is supposed to play. He's supposed to hit left handers. Yet he is still facing more right handers. Prior to that From Game 1 of the season to May 31. vs LH - 49 Plate Appearances - .163/.265/.233 We endured two months of that to get these 14 AB's. Wallner is sent down over 33 Plate Appearances and Farmer is "Very Productive" over his last 31 Plate Appearances are unfair perceptions of both. I'm not arguing that Wallner shouldn't have been sent down and I'm not arguing that Farmer should be cut today. I am saying that options can eat the young and I have seen more than my fair share of vets propped up by experience.

Ample time? Not with options hanging around. Wallner was given 25 AB's (33 PA's)to start the season. Granted those 33 PA's were brutal but 25 AB's is not ample time. I want to be clear that I have no issue with Wallner being sent down. I'm just pointing out that Kyle Farmer reached 25 AB's on April 14. The Farmer slash was .080/.281/.120 Every day Willi Castro reached 25 AB's on April 9. and was a little slow out of the box - .111/.250/.111 Farmer is still here and apparently trending up as he waits for a left hander to keep that trend skyward.

I wouldn't call up Lee at this moment. But... It's easily enough done and it improves the MLB roster in theory. If Lee goes Jackson Holiday on his debut. Castro and Martin can both shift to 2B and Wallner can be called up to take LF. Lee will get playing time. With that said... I wouldn't call up Lee at this moment.

Exactly It's a 13 man roster. There is no reason to expect him to better than our best to justify a call up. To justify a call up for Lee or anyone from AAA. That player simply needs to be better than the bottom of the major league roster. Right now... statistically... it's Kyle Farmer at the bottom. I don't understand the thinking that Brooks Lee won't play unless Lewis or Correa yield the playing time. Willi Castro and Carlos Santana are everyday players on this team... they can yield playing time. Brooks Lee can be worked in... easy peasy. With that said. 60 AB's in St. Paul... He's looking great so far. I'm excited about how he is doing... but can we give him a few more AB's please before we start chucking bodies out the door to clear room? He's not even on the 40 man roster yet. If we are adding to the 40 man and knocking a player off to make room while also holding back a player on the 40 man roster. I'd be much more interested in Keirsay Jr. at this point in time. 192 AB's - .937 OPS - 16 Stolen Bases - Plays a good CF. -- 27 Years Old with a clock ticking. Unfortunately for Keirsay and Lee who need a 40 man spot plus a 26 man spot. The Twins have a couple players swinging real well in the past 30 days who are already on the 40 man. Wallner and Severino are my first phone calls. Wallner last 30 days: 100 AB's - 1.149 OPS - 13 Dingers Severino last 30 days: 73 AB's - 1,240 OPS - 7 Dingers
