    His AAA numbers in SD were so strong they traded him for nothing? Why would the terrible Royals try to "hide" him through waivers if they thought he was MLB ready? The Twins damaged his reputation how exactly? By not giving him enough time to be successful? I understand you would like a complete overhaul of.. well... everyone and everything in leadership roles for the Twins, but understanding that players sometimes need to hear different voices and approaches to be successful doesn't necessarily mean failure by the Twins (or Padres or Royals for that matter).

    Can we please stop blaming the FO for Brent Rooker: - Traded from The Twins to the Padres after an underwhelming first half year - Basically an MiLB player for half the year before being traded to the Royals for a terrible AAA catcher - Placed on waivers by a bad Royals team after the season - Picked up by 60-win A's team with no options at 1B before seeing success (shocking all of MLB I might add) Rooker was not a FO failure, he was yet another player that needed to find the right situation to be successful. Let it go...

    This is not a Twins issue, this is an MLB issue. For some reasons, consistent year-to-year relievers are extremely uncommon. This has been an issue since forever. I do not think it will ever be resolved and teams will continue to hit and miss on relievers. Personally, I think one of the main issues with this is sample size. RP throw maybe 60 innings a year. 3-4 bad outings will ruin an entire years worth of numbers. They get 1 inning to be perfect. A bad day, being a little off, there is no chance to figure it out (like SP are generally afforded). It is a recipe for failure.

    Correa, Buxton, Lopez, Ober, and Ryan (possibly Lewis) are the only ones I would deem "untouchable". Everyone else on this roster could be had for the right price.

    I feel all positional coaching at this level (MLB, NBA, etc.) is more about fine-tuning approaches and mental management then complete overhauls. He is young, relatable, and has had success. There is no guarantee of success, but it appears the Twins knew exactly what they wanted here.

    I would be willing to wager if Vazquez was a FA this year, he would get at least $7-8m for next year. I am not sure the Twins would save much exchanging catchers. Vazquez being a known quantity in Minnesota is also a huge factor

    I know there has been a lot of uproar about moving Vazquez and his salary, but I am not completely on board with that. Strong defense, stays healthy, veteran leadership, slightly below avg bat for the position... He may be an overpay, but not so much that I see it as a problem (except maybe in Minnesota). I wouldn't be shocked if he was moved. I would be disappointed if the move was a salary dump.

    Please do not make this your last post, there needs to be more like this to offset the vitriol. Considering the holes in the bullpen, Dobnak will be given the opportunity. Look how long it took Cole Sands to provide value. You never know when they will figure it out. Regarding Festa, et al, Dobnak would not be "taking innings" from these guys. Even if Dobnak doesn't go crazy in the majors, there is always a need for AAAA guys, especially in the pen.

    The Twins would have no problem bringing in a vary cheap, multi-positional, defensive speedster with average offensive capabilities. So would every other team in the league. No interest in the three guys listed. Find better.

    Footnote: Ron Gant committed a seldom-remembered baserunning blunder in the top of the third, careening wildly out of control back toward first base. Fortunately, Good Samaritan Kent Hrbek was on the spot to prevent Gant from injuring himself, but in the process, did tag Gant for the final out of the inning. This is, by far, the best explanation of this play I have ever read. Thank you for speaking the truth!

    Maybe not winning the WS, but definitely raising the profile. Also, there was also a definitive shift in financial approach after last season. The TV rights deal was blamed, but that same situation could have scuttled any potential sale being worked on. I am not saying that this is definitively what happened, but when you start putting pieces together, there is a logic to it. As an aside, I do believe the only reason the Pohlads went public with their intentions is because someone was going to out them and they wanted to try to control the narrative. We, as fans, have no clue how long the Pohlads have had the team on the market...

    Good question here Nick... It makes me wonder if the sale of the team has been in the works for longer than we think. Sign Correa, increase payroll, win a WS, then sell the team at a high point. Once that fell apart, along with the TV rights fiasco, they started cutting corners to provide better "value" to a buyer.

    Sorry, but I am not buying it. If the twins felt so strongly about their internal 1B options, why did they go out and spend money on a 38 yr old washed up 1B last season to shore up the position? Now... Santana was arguably the best FA signing by any team last offseason, but the signing did not reflect well on the internal options for the team. Kiriloff probably needs to be traded, as his stock in the organization is extremely down. Miranda is showing reason for optimism, but we have been here with him before and I am not yet ready to hand him the full-time reigns again. As this team will not spend any substantial money this offseason, re-signing Santana at another 1y/$6m probably makes the most sense. Even if the bat takes a dive, the glove will be there. He provides great insurance if Miranda falls off the cliff again. Also, I hope they make an early decision on Lewis this offseason, instead of throwing him to to the wolves like they did this year at 2B. If the Twins are going to give him time at 1B this year, tell him now so he can prepare for it all winter.

    I saw another article out there that claimed a reason for selling the team was internal family strife amongst the the Pohlads. Just too much smoke here for there not to be truth. The team may ultimately not sell for a while, but it won't be for lack of trying.

    Of all the potential trade candidates the Twins might discuss, trading Duran is the one I could get behind. I am not a huge believer in the super consistency of relievers. There are maybe 10 RPs in the league that are elite, the next level being "good to very good" depending on the year. His stuff may be electric, but Duran has shown to be very hittable at times. Putting the leadoff guy on base what... 35% of the time? Not exactly the MO of a lights out reliever. I am sure there is a team out there needing a closer that would overpay for Duran. Moving Duran for the right pieces would be the right decision.

    The ever-changing landscape of baseball is basically requiring teams to have flexible, multi-positional players. His value in being defensively solid at basically 7 positions probably outweighs most of his limitations offensively. Paying a player like this $5-6M a year is not a luxury, but a boon. Lumping the Twins with the Marlins and Athletics as the type of team discussing moving a player like this due to financial limitations is a travesty.

    Again, there is another piece to a trade like this everyone is ignoring: perception. You have a team the should have been in the playoffs last year, even basically every young player failing miserably (SWR being the exception). You go and trade any of the Lopez, Ober, Ryan, (and I am sure we will see coming articles about trading Lewis, Jeffers, Wallner, Miranda, and anybody else productive with a pulse) and the already tenuous relationship with the fanbase takes another nosedive. Not a great look when your new broadcast deal requires fans to actually want to watch the team to make an y money. Sure, all these guys can be moved. Just ask the White Sox.

    Unfortunately I have a feeling we are going to see a run of articles on players the Twins "should" sign, even though EVERYONE knows there is zero chance these players will be signed due to financial constraints... If the Twins re-sign Santana on a 1y/$5-6m deal, that will probably constitute the bulk of offseason spending this winter.

    Potential payroll flexibility is only a small part of the excitement over new ownership. The stubbornness and inflexibility of ownership has been one of the larger issues over the last few decades. Change is part of that excitement. What will the new owners do differently in hopes to win a championship and provide a positive experience for fans? Some changes seem like low hanging fruit (better marketing, better in-person experience), but others will take time. Approaches to the FO and on-field product, team infrastructure, scouting, analytics all could see changes. Good or bad, change is almost always painful.
