    Good teams find ways to win, and bad teams find ways to lose. It's always fun to watch a walk-off, but that's about as close as I've seen a team come to saying, "Here, take this win. We don't want it." I think Morneau nailed it with assuming Shelton was trying to see how guys performed in different situations.

    Send Holland to the showers early and then maybe mic him up in the 8th for some Harry Carey impressions. "Hey Dick, now this might be the Budweiser talkin', but I swear those fans behind home plate look like cardboard cutouts."

    Agreed. Sick people -> Medical Workers, Law Enforcement, Food Producers. I'm sure I left something out. Let's get daily testing and home support to those people first. Also, baseball is always an escape for me. I'm hopeful when it does come back that announcers are instructed to keep coronavirus commentary to an absolute minimum. That's a personal opinion though.

    WBC qualifiers getting suspended as well. If that tournament ever gets played, I hope the US gets bracketed with and kicks the living bejesus out of China.

    Nick, this series has been what I've looked forward to reading this spring, so thank you. However, as I peruse the OPS+ data of the '87 Twins, I know there are two plays that I will never forget from the 2019 season. Eddie's pinch-hit 3-run blast off Petit at home against Oakland and his throw of the year to nail Devers at the plate in Boston. From a data stand-point, it's hard to argue that Rosario may need to look over his shoulder this year, but I just think he has the intangible "It-factor". I think a team needs a guy or two with that to be truely complete.

    I had to read that twice, too. I think he meant "close to being a big leaguer" vs. "already having what it takes to pitch at the big league level". Confusing quote, but Thorpe was not the former.

    The lineup is for sure legit. I'm a fan of Ohtani, but he's been the Buxton of the Angels. Tease me with elite talent and then hit the IL. Ohtani has ten career starts and will be on the IL (as a pitcher) to start the season. Seattle is the only whipping boy in that division, so it will be a tough road for sure. Maybe the White Sox will get back to the post-season sooner than we think/hope.

    Angels are interesting, but if we think the Twins have pitching problems ...... Canning outlook doesn't help that position at all. They basically need Dylan Bundy to turn into an All-Star to save the staff. I'd probably take Oakland for that other WC.

    Interesting .... Pitchers with similar velocity and decent Bauer Unit numbers appear to be Tyson Ross, Jon Lester and Sean Manaea. The key may be to stay healthy. Ross has been an injury nightmare. Manaea is in danger of trending that way too. All three of those pitchers would be welcome to a rotation if they were 100% healthy and without the history. Lester is obviously getting up there in age, but he's had a great career.

    Great article ... It's fine if some get dunked on. There were way too many cast-off opinions of Rosario this off-season. Selling low would have been dumb just to make room for a prospect or the shadow of Kevin Pillar. Healthy Eddie should be out there every day, but there is no reason to ask or allow him to play injured with Gonzalez and Cave available. I know the Twins won't be able to sign everyone, but Eddie shouldn't be immediately dismissed for not helping some achieve full SABR-gasm.

    I would be all for a longer summer baseball break. That's what the All-Star break is for me. 3-4 days to turn off baseball and know that I'm not missing anything. The celebrity of the players doesn't intrigue me, so watching them play Top Golf is total non-draw.

    Where did you get those numbers? Fangraphs shows a -5 DRS for CF. Statcast shows a -2 OAA for CF. He only got to 2 OAA overall because of RF play.

    I'm actually happy Pillar signed with Boston and not the Twins. His defensive value has been declining for four years straight. If you could guarantee 2016 or even 2017 Pillar, I'm all ears. Unfortunately, I don't think a bounceback year in range, etc. usually works that way with age.

    This was an interesting read and very well presented. I would just have a hard time moving starting pitching depth given the uncertainty of what that depth is supporting. Also, watching New York and Cleveland already dealing with pitching injuries gives me further pause. I guess Stashak for Almora would be fine, if that gets it done. Is a Rosario, Almora, Kepler alignment a measurable upgrade to Rosario, Kepler, Cave? Other than the right-handed bat, I'm not sure. Would Rooker be a better lefty-mashing 26th man with options? Celestino is already on the 40. Do you let him be the defensive insurance policy while knowing he may be drinking from a fire hose at the plate? I like the ideas of exploring value at a cost-effective time and looking to cover holes that may open as this season unfolds.

    I hate reality TV, so I would be against anything involving it. The last thing baseball needs is producer schmucks trying to create senseless drama.

    Great article! Berrios establishing himself as firmly in the top three of the ALC would even be great accomplishment. That would mean he's pitching better than one of Giolito, Bieber or Clevinger. Of course, Clevinger might not pitch enough and make it easier to attain.

    If Cruz hangs it up after this season or can't work out an extension with the Twins, I would think there would be at least one year where the DH becomes a revolving door. Donaldson could use some days there as he gets older. I haven't heard any gold glove reviews of Kirilloff or Rooker at 1B, so Sano could make sense there just as much as anyone coming up. DH might be Arraez' best postion as well.
