Josh Winder Shouldn't Make the Opening Day Rotation
MMMordabito replied to Cody Pirkl's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
I'm not against getting another arm in the rotation, but I won't consider it a disappointment if it's Winder. After all, the team has 6 years of control, and he doesn't cost any prospects. His salary will also be easy to work into the payroll. Who knows? Maybe it will be both and a six-man rotation.- 48 replies

Report from the Fort: 3/23 News and Notes
MMMordabito replied to Ted Schwerzler 's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
Winder looks like a guy built to eat innings. I'd bet that he's added a few good pounds to the listed 210 on that 6'5" frame. Hope he isn't one that gets moved in a deal. I was impressed watching him today on the Free Game.- 5 replies

Twins Claim RHP Jhon Romero, Dobnak to 60-Day IL
MMMordabito replied to Seth Stohs's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
MiLB track record looks pretty good on Romero. Hopefully, he was a victim of numbers and can add some value in the pen. As far as Dobber goes .... -
Gary Sanchez is Not a Miguel Sano Clone
MMMordabito replied to Ted Schwerzler 's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
My glass is still half empty, but I'll echo that it's a good analysis. It's not quite ice to tundra-dwelling first nation folks, but you might have to sell Chi Chi Gonzalez to us next. -
Sonny Gray Gives Twins a New Jose Berrios
MMMordabito replied to Ted Schwerzler 's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
This just doesn't make sense. If "who" would have had their way? The FO? They along with Buxton's agent came up with the creative, incentive-laden deal that gave him generational wealth along with good chances to have uber-generational wealth if he stays on the field. Pohlad? Everything I heard was that JP was fully on board the whole time. The same FO also signed Donaldson for $92 mill. At the time, the Twins were coming off 2019, and that was a win now move. It didn't work out due to Covid, calf muscles, Colome, Happ, Shoemaker, Buxton injuries, Maeda's elbow, Simmons' ghost showing up in the batter's box and several other minor regressions and misfortunes. I think there's something to them being risk averse on long pitcher contracts above a certain dollar amount. Look no further than Yu Darvish (one the Twins were rumored to be after) to see why.- 79 replies

Sonny Gray Gives Twins a New Jose Berrios

I bet he tasted malt vinegar on fries for the first time, loved it and never wants to leave. The $131m was a bonus.- 79 replies

This is a good trade. The Twins need starting pitching, and they'll take two years of control for 24 million and a first round high school pitcher. They're 1 for 10 all-time as far as getting big league production from a first round high school pitcher (although Todd Ritchie had some years for Pittsburgh), so I'll take the Gray/Peguero side of the bet all day and twice on Sundays.

Second Deadline Passes, Still No Deal
MMMordabito replied to Ted Schwerzler 's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
Both sides can pound sand. Target Field is off the destination list for 2022. Gophers started up yesterday* @$10 a ticket. Northwoods League tickets will probably be about the same later this spring. Saints tickets will likely be the only more costly option. My methods for consuming MLB games will only be of the zero monetary cost to me variety. *Edit - They started playing up north yesterday. -
Twins Nailed Both Big Extensions
MMMordabito replied to Ted Schwerzler 's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
Not only would it be selling low, it would create a massive defensive hole. I also think they should wait until the deadline if the season goes south (if it happens). Along with giving Kepler a chance to rebound, it gives someone like Martin a longer chance to get ready for the big leagues or someone like Larnach or Kirilloff to show they have improved defensively (and offensively, as far as Larnach is concerned). I doubt Kepler fetches a rotation cog at this point.- 9 replies

Part 5: Seth's Top 30 Twins Hitting Prospects (6-10)
MMMordabito replied to Seth Stohs's topic in Twins Minor League Talk
Thanks for doing these again, Seth. Julien is probably the one from this list that I look forward to seeing the most. He seems to be a top of the order sparkplug that can do it all in the batter's box and on the basepaths. It will be interesting to see which top 30 overall Twins prospect from MLB's list doesn't make the top 30 (let alone top 5) hitters on this list. I'll guess: 5) Rodriguez 4) Miller 3) Miranda 2) Martin 1) Lewis De Andrade gets the womp, womp, womp.- 16 replies

Max Kepler has really fallen out of favor in the TD community. I'd think he'd get one more chance for a bounce-back after a sub-par short season and an injury riddled 2021. He'll be missed when Lumbering Larnach or Rigid Rooker don't get to balls in the gaps and watch limestone caroms bounce for XBHs. His contract isn't really that bad for a fourth OF, if the Twins get back into contention and he's still OPSing in the low 700s. I think he's worth more to the Twins than he would be in any sell-low trade scenario.

I would guess Javier and E-Strand will be ticketed for Cedar Rapids, Wallner for Wichita and the youngins for some more Mussel development. They all have stuff to prove and should be in the right place for that opportunity. Question on qualifiers. Did Celestino (62) and Rortvedt (98) accumulate enough PAs to no longer be considered prospects?

Part 1: Seth's Top 30 Twins Pitching Prospects (26-30)

Cruz is definitely the intriguing one for me from this group. I hope he makes the Kernels, as he would be one to watch when I get down there next summer.- 13 replies

I'm set for 2022. I almost don't want the Twins to bring in any more pitchers after reading this. Sounds like a fun season!

Don't You... Forget About AK
MMMordabito replied to Nash Walker's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
Only a simple mind would. -
This is an aggressive plan, but I could get behind it. It will surely get the fanbase upset, so maybe we will be offered $99 season tickets. The only two parts I'd change are sink or swim Celestino and the short-stop signing. Celestino needs to get at least a couple more months at AAA. I'd go stop-gap (Hamilton?) in CF to start the season, and let Celestino and Martin battle it out for a call-up to eventually take over in June or July. It's not that I wouldn't want the Twins to sign one of those top shortstops, but unless the overpay is HUGE, I don't see one of them signing here while watching the team be sold off otherwise.

Good post. I'd hate to see Polanco go, but this is a good presentation on why it should be considered. I will say that I don't think Polanco is going to be an option B for teams looking for a shortstop, but the trade scenarios that you highlight are plausible.
