  1. I am of the opinion that Milwaukee still wants one more shot in 2024. Why would they have just signed Hoskins, among other moves? Burnes will not be a Twin on opening day. I don't think Miami has a high priority on trading SP's either. They're very close to being a PO team themselves. Maybe we should be thinking about the few FA's that are still available, like Clevinger. Yep they have dug a hole and now will try to dig out of it with the clock ticking down.
  2. Talk about a guy that flamed out. Joe Charboneau. I know he was a little bit older. But he looked so young. And in 1980 he looked so good. Great. What happened? Pressure maybe. Initially drafted by the Twins.
  3. I know he didn't quite make star status, though he was an All-Star his first two seasons, but Butch Wynegar was only 26 days past 20 y/o when he debuted. But he was pretty darn good for his first few seasons. Carew was only 3 or 4 months past 21.
  4. I suspect not much happens until March. Twins have a number of players that can play 2B. Right now they want MLB talent back for Polanco. It appears no org wants to pony up what our FO thinks he's worth. An injury or two during ST on another team can/would change what they would pay. He's still not going to bring anymore than a backend SP but they may be willing at that point to give up a couple Top 10 prospects. Which may also even meet the Twins desires. Even though they say only MLB talent in January. This same scenario also applies to Farmer and Kepler.
  5. Extensions of the 4 guys you mention might be the most prudent thing to do since we are not signing FA's this season. I'll add Duran to those 4 listed. Ober and Ryan possibly too.
  6. On the MLB Top 100 just released yesterday E. Rodriguez actually rose from #48 in 2023 to #42. It's going to be fun watching him Star in the MLB for years to come. Along with Jenkins and Lee. No trading of these 3 Falvey.
  7. On a side note, if Holliday and Jenkins were available in the same draft I would still opt for Holliday over Jenkins. I think Holliday is just that good and will be that good.
  8. Our 2026 OF: Jenkins/Wallner/E. Rodriguez That looks pretty awesome with Buxton backing these guys up. Fast foreward to the end of "26 into "27 and you add Jose Rodriguez and Winokur into the mix. OF future looks bright. MLB top 100 has Jenkins at #10. Lee at #18 and E. Rodriguez at #42. Now we need to figure out this pitching pipeline thing......
  9. To add to my own post: I'll add our bullpen to the question marks. Aside from Duran our pen is pretty meh. We have done next to nothing to improve it. Staumont is it. If you can call him an improvement. Yes Stewart was really good for his 25 IP or so. But he also has a long history of injuries in case anyone has forgotten that.
  10. I also recall by my own experience, and by the posting of many others, that the Twins were deemed unwatchable through almost mid-August. This team sputtered greatly for a great deal of the 2023 campaign. Now did that struggle lead to this team becoming a more mature team because of it? We shall see. But I agree with you. If the Twins in their youthfulness can become better it stands to reason that Detroit should be able to as well. This team has it's own question marks. It starts with Buxton, Correa and Kiriloff. And carries over to the starting rotation and anybody not named Lopez. I can't with any kind of honesty not call Paddock and Varland question marks. Ryan to a fair degree as well. At this point I'm feeling more secure on Ober and can almost take the question mark off of him.
  11. A win is a win right? I prefer dominance myself. I kind of have the same mentality as Blyleven 2011, I like 10 game winning streaks. I'd like to see the team win 100 and win the division by 15 or 20 games. This team won't do that. But back to the beginning, a win is a win.
  12. Pretty hard to predict how the division is going to line up yet at this stage of the season since the Twins have not started their off season yet. Detroit imo will be a bit better. KC is better. CWS cannot be any worse and Cleveland will be tough as always. Twins right now have lost 12-13 WAR in talent and have replaced them only with unknowns from within at this point. Right now I'd say the Twins win the AL Central by no more than 2-3 games.
  13. Twins have decided to cut payroll. Boras isn't the one responsible for our lack of moves. They tried to trade Kepler last winter too. Is Boras at fault for that not happening then too? It's time for the FO to take responsibility. Pohlad said cut so they are. Boras isn't stopping us from signing Clevinger or Ryu or Neris. Boras isn't stopping us from trading Polanco either. But it could be the price we are asking. Not that I'm saying to give our players away. I'm not. But Boras isn't the Twins problem.
  14. As long as you're OK with eating bologna sandwich's on stale bread. EAT!!!!!!! No steak or prime rib for you however.
  15. We do need some CF depth and insurance at the position. I'm sure we can also use depth at St.Paul, though I wouldn't want Thompson to be taking playing time away from more legitimate prospects. Martin, Rodriguez, etc. But I have no issue with the pickup what so ever. But we also shouldn't be expecting Thompson to suddenly discover some sort of magic that he's never shown before. He's almost certainly not a 3 WAR player with a 120 OPS+.
  16. Another no risk pickup. See what he can do if he gets the chance in ST. The question is are we going to take a risk at all this off season? Or are we taking the risky move of not making a risk move at all? I hope not. It would only take a couple of key injuries for the whole thing to fall apart and for the Twins to be the CWS of 2024.
  17. I and my wife went to Gettysburg in 2018. Very solemn place. Antietam, Harpers Ferry and Mannasses are all close by as well. We missed them since I was pulling a trailer with an antique tractor on it and didn't want to deal with traffic from the DC metro. I've done all of the major sites of the Western theater of the War. Shiloh, Wow. Congrats to Mauer.
  18. Thurman Munson should be in the HOF. Death should not stop a great player from being in. Another reason the Hall of Fame isn't. Thurman was every bit the working man's player.
  19. I don't know of too many sure things in this world, but one thing I am certain of and will do a Joe Willy Namath. The Twins are not trading Royce Lewis this off season or season. I guarantee it. This regime has not been afraid to make trades, and even trade from their prospect stash. But they have never traded from the very top. I suspect they won't now either. So Jenkins, Lee, Rodriguez and Festa should not be expected to be traded.
  20. Aroldis Chapman to the Pirates on a 1/10.5 deal. Nice get for Pittsburgh. Team friendly deal and they'll have a good trade piece at the deadline if their season stalls out. They are also putting together a very good Pen. While the Twins sign Josh Staumont. . .
  21. If he would sign for the league minimum why not sign him? He is getting a shot with a good team which should appeal to him. Yankees pay most of his salary which should appeal to us. If he's washed up he's sent packing end of March.
