  1. I would pass, we are set at OF and DH. Boras client too, should be a nice long contract somewhere for the 28 year old.
  2. You're speculating that the Tricep strain/Shoulder sublaxation and Knee Tendinitis were planned days off? I haven't seen anything to back that up. Maybe the team broke the rules and faked injuries, wouldn't be the first time. Maybe we were ultra safe with him and placed him on the IL with the slightest bit of soreness. Either way he has missed time with injury every year but two in his career (2011 and 2016). Average of 109 innings per season since 2014. 137 innings per season for his career if you exclude the full seasons he has missed (91 innings per year if you include the full seasons missed). I would try to resign him to a 2 year deal at a decent price. Its likely another team is willing to gamble more on his health than I would be. You would be wise to expect at least one injury somewhere in his next deal along with that suspension time.
  3. The Nationals 4 playoff starters made $99.32M this season. That is about 84.4% of the Twins 2019 payroll according to baseball reference. Max Scherzer alone would have been 35% of the Twins payroll. Its not often that a rotation like this comes together (maybe 2 more seasons of it too). This is only possible on a top payroll team.
  4. I'm not buying this altered baseballs thing. Its such a small sample size compared to the 2019 season. There have been like one regular season day worth of playoff games. Complain all you want about a 99 MPH Sano hit at 27 degrees that went 340 feet. Eric Sogard hit one 98 MPH at 27 degrees and it was a 380 foot homerun in game 4 of the Rays series. There are more than 2 factors in distance a baseball travels. Sano hitting one 70 feet further with the same velocity and angle shouldn't be surprising. August in Texas vs October in New York hmmm. According to baseball reference MLB hit 6776 homeruns in 4848 games, 1.39 Homeruns per game. There have been 52 homeruns in 20 games so far in the playoffs. Considering the homerun total is 2 teams combined we will call it 26 homeruns in 20 games for a per team average (or 52 homeruns in 40 games), that is 1.3 homeruns per game. 1.39 vs 1.3.
  5. The problem wasn't really specific to just Sano. Our whole infield was poor defensively. Polanco is tied for dead last (32nd) in UZR at SS with a minimum of 500 innings. (-9.1 UZR) Schoop was 25th of 31 in UZR at 2B with the 500 minimum innings (Arraez had 390 innings at 2B but was even worse in UZR than Schoop, -5.0 UZR for Arraez and -3.7 for Schoop) Cron was 19th of 29 in UZR at 1st with more than 500 innings. (-0.6 UZR) Sano was 29th of 32 at 3rd (-6.7 UZR). Marwin Gonzalez had 291 innings but a decent 2.6 UZR.
  6. If we had Pineda for the postseason we would have had a good postseason rotation with Berrios, Pineda, and Odorizzi. The FO had us in a decent position starter wise before Pineda did what he did. We weren't going to win many games against the Yankees top scoring offense with only 2.3 runs per game either.
  7. I don't think the National are going to tear it down (already offered a 7 year contract to Rendon) but it will be interesting to see what the Cubs, A's, and Rockies do.
  8. Replacing Gibson, Odorizzi, Pineda, and probably Perez won't be that challenging. You're really just trying to replace/re-sign Odorizzi. Gibson and Perez are back of the rotation caliber pitchers. Pineda is never on the field anyway (150 innings 3 times in 9 years, 0 times since 2016). A combination of Dobnak, Graterol, or Smeltzer could effectively replace the Gibson and Perez innings/results in 4th and 5th spots. Extending Odorizzi and signing a pitcher in the mid-tier like Alex Wood should give us a better staff than this season.
  9. 101 wins in what was supposed to be a "figure out what we have" year. He should be extremely happy with the season and the future of the franchise.
  10. 32-37 against teams over .500. The only playoff team with a losing record in those games.
  11. I'm guessing that Strasburg will opt out of his contract. Stuff-wise Berrios has a case as being better than these pitchers but from a recent FIP standpoint there isn't much difference between him and Bumgarner, Keuchel, Quintana, Wood, or Wheeler.
  12. Yankee rotation is announced. Paxton, Tanaka, Severino. Encarnacion expects to be on the roster and to play game 1. CC will not be on the roster.
  13. If all of Adrianza, Arraez, and Gonzalez are healthy then I would leave Astudillo off the roster. They are better fielders and hitters. Astudillo would just be a pinch hitter in this case I would assume, and he would be a decent guy to have pinch hit but.... The one thing our offense doesn't have is a baserunner. Ian Miller getting the last spot is probably my choice. Have him pinch run for almost anyone in the 8th or 9th. It seems more likely that we would have a slow runner at 1st or 2nd late in the game than a guy at 3rd with less than 2 outs where we need someone to make contact.
  14. Right now it is projected as Paxton (L), Severino ®, Tanaka ®. The Yankees say that Paxton might be their only "traditional starter" in the playoffs but we will see what exactly that means. Their bullpen will probably get a ton of innings this series. Happ has been told that he is pitching in relief for the playoffs, there is speculation that Happ could be used after an opener for game 4 but we will have to wait and see if that is the case.
  15. Ouch, our best OBP hitter (.399) might be replaced by our worst OBP hitter (.299). An .838 OPS replaced by our worst OPS hitter (.678).
  16. I think Dyson felt he could pitch through it and didn't tell anyone.
  17. So you're saying that if Lewis moves to OF he is immediately 2nd or 3rd on our depth chart? So basically starting somewhere on the MLB roster. For 2020, Cave, Gonzalez and Wade are absolutely ahead of Lewis in OF. Luke Raley is too. Lewis would need to set the world on fire to be considered anywhere next season and it is likely that he is only considered for an infield spot. Rosario would have to be gone too I'm assuming because he, Buxton, and Kepler are all clearly well ahead of Lewis until at least 2022. It doesn't make sense to me to squeeze Lewis into an already crowded and talented outfield when it would be easy to find him a spot in the infield. We don't need to clog up any OF spots when Kirilloff and Larnach seem to be every bit as good as Lewis. Honestly Lewis probably doesn't factor anywhere in 2020 but it seems simple to mix around the infield in 2021 when Cron, Gonzalez, and Adrianza are likely Free Agents. I'm betting Lewis is still the SS of the future.
  18. I would rather see Lewis at SS when/if he gets to the MLB. Polanco is a below average SS defensively and Arraez is well below average at 2nd using UZR metrics. Arraez has been decent at 3rd in 123 inning there. Arraez at 3rd or super utility, Lewis at SS, Polanco at 2nd, Sano at 1b/DH (if he is not a FA by the time Lewis debuts). Our infield defense is not very good and our outfield defense is great. Seems like making room for Lewis in the outfield is a waste. Kirilloff, Cave, and Wade should be ahead of Lewis on any outfield depth chart.
  19. If we only manage to go 5-5 against these 2 terrible teams, Cleveland needs to go 9-1 to win the division. Cleveland is 23-35 against teams over .500 like Philadelphia and Washington.
  20. The Cleveland/Philly series starting Friday should be fun to watch. As of now Cleveland Wild Card elimination number is 10 and Phillies is 9. Two teams desperately needing every win. Washington has lost ground in their bid to secure the 1st wildcard spot. Potentially setting up another important series when Cleveland travels there.
  21. There might be an argument that Pineda is among the top 5 starters but I would put him somewhere like 7th or 8th. The benefit is the potential discount that you could get for him but there is serious downside with him. Even without the multiple cheating suspensions, he is about as injury prone as they come. When healthy and not suspended, he is good. Would you bet that he goes an entire season without injury? His 2011 rookie season and 2016 are the only IL free seasons he has had over the 9 seasons.
  22. It was righty Brandon Woodruff that came in to pitch after the 1st batter. The plan was also to get them to load up on right handed hitters, not lefties like the article states. The Dodgers started 8 right handers against Miley in game 2. The strategy didn't really work because the Dodgers changed it up but still started 6 righties against Miley. Woodruff has pitched better against righties in his career.
  23. Have Gibson treat his last starts like Spring Training and work mostly on pitches that he can't locate. Don't worry about the score and smooth out any mechanical issues. The 3rd starter will likely only pitch a few innings no matter who it is. I doubt we see many 100 pitch games from starters except from the Astros.
  24. 2 games back is toast? Would you rather be playing the Phillies than the 4 games series we have against the Royals that weekend?
  25. Here are the runs allowed rankings over the last 14 days. I think our offense will compete with them... 30th place White Sox - 84 29th Tigers - 75 28th Royals - 69
