Article: MIN 18, SEA 4: Sharks Eat Mariners
Aerodeliria replied to Tom Froemming's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
What a difference a year makes!! I do remember sleepless in Seattle last year. 2018 (3 games) Record 0-3 Runs 5 Hits 12 HRs 1 That wasn't fun for us fans and it probably wasn't much for Twins players either. It was dreadful. 2019... awesome! Record 3-0 Runs 36 Hits 45 HRs 11- 48 replies

I still have hope for Vasquez. I think he just wasn't quite ready for prime time in his previous call up to the Twins. If he can keep things together down on the farm for a few weeks, I think he might stick a little bit longer this next time around.

Article: Buxton a Star in Center and 9th
Aerodeliria replied to Ted Schwerzler 's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
He's a streaky hitter. In case anyone has forgotten, his BA had regressed to below .250 just a week ago; now he's been on fire. Now that he's hot, there is all this clamoring for him to be the leadoff hitter. Rocco knows Buxton and how he should be dealt with. I don't always agree with Rocco about in-game decisions, but I think he really understands his players well, so I'll go with his instincts. When he thinks Buxton is ready, he can move him to wherever he wants in the lineup. PS: There is a nice article on Rocco. Someone may have already provided a link to it, but it is a very impressive article: https://www.beyondtheboxscore.com/2019/5/15/18618673/mlb-minnesota-twins-manager-rocco-baldelli-culture-success -
That home run by Cron was a monster blast. The Twins were just bashing the ball. Swanson wasn't exactly fooling anyone. As Tom mentioned, the Mariners didn't play well; but the Twins made some blunders as well--on the base paths and throwing the ball around as well. Those miscues are easy to overlook when you score 11 runs. Pineda is an interesting case. I thought today would be his best outing of the season. Again, he was able to get swinging strikes as Tom mentioned, but they still jacked the ball three more times. Was it his best outing? Questionable. I can say it was a win and he certainly could relax with such a large lead, but do I trust him in a tight game? Not yet...but I really want to!!! I'm thankful for the win; that's more than we can say about last year in Seattle. Last year after having beaten the Cards in St. Louis twice and playing .500 over a few games and then winning three of four games at home, I was optimistic that the Twins were going to right the ship in Seattle and all would be well. I couldn't have been more wrong. The Seattle trip (to me) was the most demoralizing series of the season; it exposed all of the Twins' weaknesses in one series. We then went into KC and laid another egg. We are already one win in the plus column at Seattle this year!! This is much more fun!! (We were 20-23 at this point last year as a comparison.)

Article: MIN 8, LAA 7: Twins Squeak Out Victory
Aerodeliria replied to Tom Froemming's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
This website has a video not only showing Odorizzi's reaction, but also provides another angle, showing Schoop fielding the imaginary baseball and throwing 'it' to Cron at first. Cron totally believes that Schoop had fielded it, so when the other baseball suddenly appears, he thinks it must be raining baseballs and gets totally freaked out. I'm not sure why Schoop did that, but it adds to the hilarity. Here's the link: https://www.12up.com/posts/video-twins-cj-cron-missed-easy-toss-from-jake-odorizzi-after-being-tricked-by-jonathan-schoop-01dayeqq3hn3 (make sure you play the second video--the first one doesn't play--at least not on my pc)- 75 replies

Aerodeliria replied to Tom Froemming's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
Well, for the most part, I think that Rocco has used the pen effectively during the latter part of games. Early on in games, he has made some less than stellar choices IMHO, but it is all a learning process I suppose. Hildy is an interesting case. He seems to be lights out and completely reliable for long stretches so that you even breathe a sigh of relief when he comes in to save the day. Then, it is like a switch is turned and he really can't get anyone out in any situation and you hold your breath in the hopes that someone might catch one of the line drives. This was the case last year as well. My point is, the natural emotional reaction is to say that he's become trash, but there must be a rationale behind his Jekyl and Hyde performances. I seriously doubt that he is washed up and if he can his head screwed on straight or fix his mechanics, he can be a great help to the team. At least with Hildy, you know what version you are getting. Right now, we are getting the Mr. Hyde version.- 75 replies

I'm sure it will be added to MLB Oddities version 4 on Youtube. Cron already appears in one of those videos (as a Devil Ray) when he hit a pitch after it bounced in front of the plate (a flyout to left field). Amazingly, I watched that yesterday. I thought to myself that I had never actually seen that before (a batter making contact on a bounced pitch and hitting a fair ball--I wasn't even sure it was legal but apparently it is). What is so weird is that last night I was watching a game between the Yomiuri Giants and the Hanshin Tigers and in the top of the 7th inning, a Hanshin player did exactly the same thing by hitting a bounced pitch fair--a groundout to the catcher. My jaw dropped, but just to show you that baseball is one crazy game, in the bottom of the 7th, a Yomiuri player did the same thing. He hit a bounced pitch back to the mound. It was like the Twilight Zone. It would be great if someone could actually deliver a base hit on a bounced pitch...has it ever happened?- 75 replies

Article: MIN 4, LAA 3: Throw Down
Aerodeliria replied to Tom Froemming's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
Rocco Baldelli nearly guaranteed himself a cameo appearance on Japanese TV by pointing out that Ohtani-san is one of the fastest players and that he runs like a gazelle. If the Japanese media find the clip posted here, it is almost a foregone conclusion.- 47 replies

Article: MIN 4, LAA 3: Throw Down
Aerodeliria replied to Tom Froemming's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
Well, we can all start breathing again at least. Ohtani-san will be on the news again tonight, but he might be shown getting thrown out twice as well as the praising of his hits. (Personally, I like Ohtani-san to succeed, but not at the expense of a Twins' loss. Last night on just the sporting section of the news, they showed Ohtani-san's home run six times; his single once; they interviewed him after the game and they also interviewed the TV broadcaster for the Angels' games because apparently, he uses the term 'big fly' to indicate a home run, so clearly they were waiting for Ohtani-san to hit his first homer of the season so they could interview him. They have also now made the term 'big fly' into Japanese(ビッグ・フライ)and I suppose they are selling t-shirts as the broadcaster was wearing one. That is all to say, things just tend to get a little bit over the top--especially concerning Ohtani-san who is loved by virtually all Japanese across every generation.) I wasn't really sure why Rocco switched from Harper to Duffey. It seemed like Harper was doing fine, but I really appreciated the switch from Duffey to Morin. I know that there are times when Duffey looks like Mariano Rivera (OK--maybe a stretch but it seems that way in the chatter), but in the context of today's game--clinging to a one run lead--I can say that he has been unreliable, so getting the hook was the right move IMHO.- 47 replies

Article: LAA 5, MIN 4: More Missed Opportunities
Aerodeliria replied to Andrew Gebo's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
Actually, I like your post very much, but now that Marwin is getting in his groove, why not bat him first? He is probably the most patient hitter we have and he just seems like a player who doesn't press very much...of course, once Sano returns and Cruz is also in the lineup, it's hard to work around all of the contingencies. Probably Marwin could switch with Kepler when there was a lefty on the mound, and he could fill in on the infield or outfield to give others a rest considering he so versatile.- 54 replies

Article: LAA 5, MIN 4: More Missed Opportunities
Aerodeliria replied to Andrew Gebo's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
This game was so annoying....even the interview. The reporterette asked Rocco, "Why did you let Berrios come out for the 6th?" HAHAHAHA....Just kidding. That would have been a rational question. Her question instead was, "How did you know it was time to take Berrios out of the game?" How?? Is that even a real question? He just gave up his 12th hit in 5 + innings! I mean come on; that was softball sitting on a batting tee. Let's hope tomorrow, we'll play baseball that will make this game fade from our memories....("Stupid Ohtani highlights" think Homer Simpson's voice).- 54 replies

Aerodeliria replied to Andrew Gebo's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
This was a typical managerial mistake that is often made when trying to get a starting pitcher a win. I was worried that Berrios would come out for the 6th once the Twins tied it, but it was clear he didn't have his best stuff so he should have taken his seat at the end of the bench. Again, the Twins did not get the bit hit when they needed it, but once they had tied it, I had optimism that they could win it. The home run took a bit of wind out of everyone's sails.- 54 replies

Thanks for this update. More than the grand salami, I was pleased to see Sano take a walk in that situation. His modus operandi last year would have been swing at the first pitch almost irrespective where it was and eventually strike out on a slider out of the strike zone. I have this sinking feeling that the wads of cash invested in Addison Reed have begun sprouting wings...

Article: DET 5, MIN 3: We Have a Problem
Aerodeliria replied to Tom Froemming's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
I'm not surprised at our losses to Detroit. Saturday's games were both iffy affairs from the outset, so I can live with a split (sorry how we lost that one though). Sunday, the Twins played poorly, but I will agree with Tom about Astudillo leading off. That seemed a bit odd to me. I wouldn't say the Twins are falling apart due to a couple of injuries, but I do note that injuries expose a certain lack of depth the Twins have. We played with two -WAR players in yesterday's lineup--granted, they performed better than expected, but it is not a long-term solution for the season; with Cruz exiting (hopefully short term), things get even a bit dicier. As for nit-picking, it is nice that we are able to be nit-picky at the six week mark. Last year at this time, we had a lot of legitimate reasons to be griping.- 60 replies

This kind of loss will happen to the Twins from time to time. The Twins are a good team but with paper thin margins when injuries crop up. I mean were now plugging in a player who is hitting .130 after his 'big' offensive day.

Article: Longest Tenured Minnesota Twins - 2019
Aerodeliria replied to Seth Stohs's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
He 'plays' for Chiba-Lotte Marines; and toting the same problems he had stateside is haunting him here in Japan as well. He couldn't lay off of the off-speed offerings out of the strike zone while he was here. That's not going to have a fairytale ending if you come to Japan. His whiff rate is a whopping 36% since joining the Marines with just one home run. Of course, now he has started riding the pine with his horrible slash line. It's too bad, but it seems as if AAA represents his peak I'm afraid.- 30 replies

I told myself Gibson would have his best game of the year so far. He's pitched well against the Jays in the past, but it was sure nice to see. Of course the hitters made it a lot easier. I was happy to see Cron awake from his slump. I'll be sorry to see Cave shuttled back Rochester, but he's not getting many ABs. (I won't comment on the other player, but will say that it will be great to have La Tortuga back again.)- 52 replies
