  1. I'm not so concerned with the rotation at the moment. I am hoping for the continual progression of Thorpe in the minors. His last three outings have been impressive (although he got tagged for the three runners that were left on base as Moya coughed up a grand slam). For being touted as a strikeout pitcher, Pineda hasn't been missing many bats lately. Maybe he needs another pitch in his arsenal?
  2. You couldn't pin those plays on Harper this time. That was poor fielding.
  3. ... actually Harper pitched well in his short stint as well, but even the fielding was gross.
  4. Ugh, ugh, ughly! A memorable game followed by an ugly and forgettable affair. I agree with Mr. Sixel. The trend line on Pineda's performances continues in the wrong direction. How close is Thorpe to being ready?
  5. You can play "D," but you still need to be able to hit. (I think the days of the Mark Belanger type shortstops is long gone.) I think he needs time; he's probably pressing a bit right now.
  6. 1-0. This is one of those games you look back near the end of the year and remember with fondness.
  7. Nice wrap up. The Cruz effect continues. To be perfectly honest, I forgave the Twins completely for any failures to secure relief help once they inked Cruz. There is just something about him being there in the lineup. I think it's that quiet confidence; he just let's the game come to him.
  8. I'm not advocating dumping Castro (at least for the present), but the data here are skewed. The Twins were a bad team last year and Garver and Wilson had the misfortune of being the catchers for most of the year. If Castro had been healthy would the Twins have won many more games? Not very likely, so his numbers would have dropped precipitously.
  9. Perez has been decent. Better than Pineda, which has surprised me. The mound visits seem to bring back his focus. We need him to be sure. The Indians rotation is tough, especially if Carrasco gets in a groove. I think the Twins have a better offense, but we need all the pitching we can get.
  10. I saw the lineup and I thought it is all on the back of Stewart (code phrase for Adrianza with Castro starting--and yes, Adrianza got a meaningless hit off Verlander after striking out twice along with Castro striking out twice). For Stewart to get a win, I knew he would need to pitch one of those games for the ages. Instead, I suppose Rocco started filling out the lineup card for Friday by the third inning. As it seemed to be a throw-away game, as soon as Correa launched his homer, I became disinterested--at least it wasn't a gut punch game. I checked back later and Stewart was still pitching and five runs had already crossed, so I knew his job was just to eat up as many innings as possible. I hope the next time it is Thorpe!!!
  11. A few more outings like the previous two put together by Thorpe and we would have to consider his debut with the big boys.
  12. Thanks! There are guys that just look like baseball players! Smeltzer is just not one of them. Smeltzer looks like a soundboard guy for a polka band, but hey, if he can record outs, 'strike up the music.'
  13. I am curious as to why Rocco didn't bring in the Jolly Roger if his intent was only to get the one out against one of the better left-handed hitters around...Nevertheless, when your team plays the Astros, I just feel like you have to keep scoring. When we couldn't muster another run after scoring three early, it was like the tension on the rope was ever increasing with each and every pitch. (And of course, the Astros made us pay for walks and errors. You're rarely going to stave off disaster when those two are combined against a team like the Astros.)
  14. It's hard to say that all of the blame lies with Harper anyway. That's the pitch that Castro called for (according to anonymous sources-hahaha) and Harper is basically a rookie, so he threw his 'other' pitch instead of his best pitch based upon the call from Castro. I doubt Harper was in the 'position' to shake him off. That is not to say I am blaming the dinger totally on Castro either. That was the choice and it turned out to be the wrong one. Did anyone think that Harper's ERA for the season was going to remain 0.00? Houston has perhaps the most potent lineup on the planet and I think it is somewhat unrealistic to think that your team is going to go into their house and walk away with many 1-0 victories. Harper finished the inning with the lead and the Twins won. I'm happy about that!! :-)
  15. At what point do teams stop pitching to Polanco? He's hitting everything right now Exactly!
  16. Maybe I was a bit hyperbolic, but there isn't any question that once he got to Houston, he just obliterated the opposition. His numbers were gaudy to say the least.
  17. It seems like a number of folks are questioning that pitch choice and location to Correa by Harper. Am I correct in assuming it was the fastball?
  18. Meh! He got roughed up a little tonight. Time will tell. His upside is that he hasn't walked himself into disaster innings and fielders really do appreciate that. Maybe he could develop a palm ball or something.
  19. Miraculous Miracle magic for the starters. That's a very encouraging sign for now and the future.
  20. We've played 20 games. That's a miniscule sample, so why change it? Here are some reasons not to as it presently stands: 1) Buxton's has only walked four times. 2) Despite Buxtons' blistering start, his OBP is lower than Kepler's. 3) The idea is to get on base, so that Cruz/Cron can knock you in. If Buxton were more willing to bunt, I'd say go for it because even a mediocre bunt, he could beat out. However, Buxton really never bunts. 4) Why not wait until he gets a few more ABs as he seems to be doing fine? There is plenty of time.
  21. I just thought we wanted to dump Pressly in mea culpa fashion. No one can argue that when he put on the orange and blue, he was suddenly lights out. I must blame that on how Pressly was used in MN--whether it was a mental issue, a physical issue or a pitch selection issue (I prefer this latter argument). Was it a bad trade? I can't predict the future, but we got prospects for a solid reliever. Houston snapped that up like like a dog with a rib-eye, but was it the worst of all of the deals we made last year? IMHO, hands down.
  22. While it's true that these are early days, the pressure on everyone is eased when the team is 12-7 rather than 7-12. If we play + .500 over the next three series, we'll be in good shape. The Astros are playing well, but not lights out. They are bound to lose at home soon. Let's hope the Twins deliver there first home losses for 2019.
  23. Nice wins today! I said to myself after Friday's rainout that we should sweep the Orioles. We have a chance! It would be nice. Houston will be a much tougher assignment. I agree that the Twins have some streaky hitters and that's why I want Cruz in the lineup every day he possibly can lift a bat. He brings that 'same every day' approach each time he steps to the plate.
  24. In all honesty, I recognized this scenario/argument even prior to posting; however, the negative trade-off is that you have to keep Adrianza, who is really a utility infielder by every stretch of the imagination. Cave would be an acceptable starter for some teams. (Granted Adrianza might have to be a starter on some teams, but it certainly wouldn't be a glorious option.)
