  1. I'm always so impressed by these discussions. I can learn more in 2-3 minutes of reading here than I could get from ESPN in a year.
  2. Actually, I like your post very much, but now that Marwin is getting in his groove, why not bat him first? He is probably the most patient hitter we have and he just seems like a player who doesn't press very much...of course, once Sano returns and Cruz is also in the lineup, it's hard to work around all of the contingencies. Probably Marwin could switch with Kepler when there was a lefty on the mound, and he could fill in on the infield or outfield to give others a rest considering he so versatile.
  3. So I guess Cruz's wrist is not so bad? If so, that's good news. When is Sano expected to show his face in a Twin's uniform?...this series?
  4. This game was so annoying....even the interview. The reporterette asked Rocco, "Why did you let Berrios come out for the 6th?" HAHAHAHA....Just kidding. That would have been a rational question. Her question instead was, "How did you know it was time to take Berrios out of the game?" How?? Is that even a real question? He just gave up his 12th hit in 5 + innings! I mean come on; that was softball sitting on a batting tee. Let's hope tomorrow, we'll play baseball that will make this game fade from our memories....("Stupid Ohtani highlights" think Homer Simpson's voice).
  5. PS-Now I have to watch highlights of Ohtani's home run over and over again :-(...
  6. This was a typical managerial mistake that is often made when trying to get a starting pitcher a win. I was worried that Berrios would come out for the 6th once the Twins tied it, but it was clear he didn't have his best stuff so he should have taken his seat at the end of the bench. Again, the Twins did not get the bit hit when they needed it, but once they had tied it, I had optimism that they could win it. The home run took a bit of wind out of everyone's sails.
  7. I couldn't have said it any better myself. Thanks! PS-The polka soundboard man (Smeltzer) continues to amaze.
  8. Thanks for this update. More than the grand salami, I was pleased to see Sano take a walk in that situation. His modus operandi last year would have been swing at the first pitch almost irrespective where it was and eventually strike out on a slider out of the strike zone. I have this sinking feeling that the wads of cash invested in Addison Reed have begun sprouting wings...
  9. I'm not surprised at our losses to Detroit. Saturday's games were both iffy affairs from the outset, so I can live with a split (sorry how we lost that one though). Sunday, the Twins played poorly, but I will agree with Tom about Astudillo leading off. That seemed a bit odd to me. I wouldn't say the Twins are falling apart due to a couple of injuries, but I do note that injuries expose a certain lack of depth the Twins have. We played with two -WAR players in yesterday's lineup--granted, they performed better than expected, but it is not a long-term solution for the season; with Cruz exiting (hopefully short term), things get even a bit dicier. As for nit-picking, it is nice that we are able to be nit-picky at the six week mark. Last year at this time, we had a lot of legitimate reasons to be griping.
  10. This kind of loss will happen to the Twins from time to time. The Twins are a good team but with paper thin margins when injuries crop up. I mean were now plugging in a player who is hitting .130 after his 'big' offensive day.
  11. It's hard to decide, but I'm gonna go with Tony Olivia despite his bum knee.
  12. He 'plays' for Chiba-Lotte Marines; and toting the same problems he had stateside is haunting him here in Japan as well. He couldn't lay off of the off-speed offerings out of the strike zone while he was here. That's not going to have a fairytale ending if you come to Japan. His whiff rate is a whopping 36% since joining the Marines with just one home run. Of course, now he has started riding the pine with his horrible slash line. It's too bad, but it seems as if AAA represents his peak I'm afraid.
  13. I told myself Gibson would have his best game of the year so far. He's pitched well against the Jays in the past, but it was sure nice to see. Of course the hitters made it a lot easier. I was happy to see Cron awake from his slump. I'll be sorry to see Cave shuttled back Rochester, but he's not getting many ABs. (I won't comment on the other player, but will say that it will be great to have La Tortuga back again.)
  14. 'Again, the new guys certainly help, but there are a lot of things coming together that were in place before. A lot of hard-luck for the previous staff is turning into a positive this year." I contend that if the Twins did not have Cruz, Parker, Schoop and Perez, the group of players that you mention would not be having the kind of seasons they are experiencing and although the Twins might be better sans the cadre of newbies, I doubt very seriously that they would be much over .500 at this point.
  15. This was my second favorite game of the year (behind the 1-0 game). They played a tough game on the road in Toronto--no errors and no walks.
  16. I'm glad to see, that for the most part, the tenured players are with the big club.
  17. Actually, the beauty of Cruz, Nelson (see how I did that), is that he represents a consistent big bat in the middle of the lineup that helps the Twins weather those cold spells by Rosario. Last year, when Rosario went cold, it was tough to get instant offense from other players. I am really looking forward to seeing Sano too. I believe Sano will take note of the way Cruz approaches RBI opportunities. It should have a positive effect on Sano. (I think it's already had a positive influence on Buxton. He's driven th the ball through the right side of the infield a few times in the past couple of weeks.) Thanks for this review. It was fun to read. I agree with everything you mentioned except the part about the series that we should have won. I think we should have swept the Yankees. I'm not trying to sound pendantic, but the way we played in the key moments of those games was quite poor. Let's sweep the Jays so we can forget NY for now. (Of course, if we do make the playoffs, I suppose we'll be running into NY again.)
  18. When Sano's ready, I am happy to have him on board. And then, let's hope, they send Adrianza packing. He has been a drain for most of the season. How many times did Adrianza come to the plate with runners in scoring position in the two games he started against los Yanquis? Like four times? How many runners did he plate? "0" He must have a (-) WAR, and he's no Ozzie Guillen in the field. I checked his WAR. It's at 0.0. He really is a career utility infielder and there are guys out there who could do they same (even at Rochester) or even slightly better.
  19. Please let it be Adrianza who is sent packing. The number of big hits this year can be counted on one finger. He is like 0-infinity in high leverage situations with RISP. Marwin and Astudillo can back up at 2nd.
  20. i consider bad and terrible as not being exactly identical. I said 'bad.' I think the Twins were a bad team. The Royals were a terrible team.
  21. They probably put Knight on the restricted list simply because he might accidentally land on Sano's foot when he does a backflip.
