  1. True, but there are only a few who thought some guy named Tebow would even be around let alone playing in AAA by this point in time.
  2. Hackimer is back to what is becoming standard operating procedure. Strikeouts and no runs. Was he injured last year? I noticed his walk/strikeout ratio was not that good last year and of course ERA and WHIP were also not so good. Or maybe he is just that much better this year? Thoughts?
  3. Completely off-topic: I got a chance to watch the Yomiuri Giants and the Rakuten Eagles for the last three innings tonight. Our old 'friend' Alan Busenitz came in to try to hang on to a 2-1 lead in the eighth inning. After recording one out, he had a tough luck inning started by ground ball single between 1st and 2nd. Then, he got another ball chopped to the left of the mound, which he tried to glove--a mistake--it hit off the end of his glove and carommed into right field (it would have been a pretty easy doubleplay if he hadn't tried to stab it). Runners were at the corners. The next hitter grounded the ball in the hole but the shortstop fielded it nicely. It also looked like it was going to be a doubleplay, but the shortstop's plant foot slipped on the damp grass and his throw pulled the 2nd baseman off the bag. Tying run scored. The next batter grounded into the inning ending doubleplay. He ended up getting the win, however, as Rakuten rallied for two runs in the bottom of the eighth. Just thought I'd let the faithful know how one of their own is doing. He's been quite a good pitcher for the Eagles and looked sharp despite giving up the tying run. Sorry for the long post.
  4. I could only tune in to MLB.com after the game had been tied. I was quite surprised he was still in for the 7th inning myself. Five hitter...too bad they were all homers.
  5. Wow! That number's massive! I thought there were a few hundred members!!
  6. He only threw Lindor two fastballs. He probably shouldn't have thrown him any. I think the major difference today was his inability to command the zone. His strike rate was 20% lower than the last time out.
  7. I think twins1095 has a point. The odd delivery seems to add to the deception of the pitches. His hook looked great.
  8. Ha! The Yankee love from the cabal of sports writers never ceases. I rarely check ESPN anymore (considering they are the worst IMHO), but I happened to pop over to the site yesterday. They had four articles on the Yankees and of course zero on the Twins. Also, I read an article (I can't remember the site) about the all-star game. No Twins were mentioned as starters and only two Twins were mentioned as back-ups (Berrios and Polanco)--no mention of Schoop, Garver, Rosie, Taylor or even Odorizzi. Of course, there were loads of Yankees and Red Sox as both starters and back-ups.
  9. Perspective: Twins were 26-32 after 58 games last year. It's hard to believe that the present iteration of the Twins has chalked up 14 more wins at this point.
  10. I can't thank you guys enough for all of these data. I feel much more informed going through the top 50.
  11. AGREED!!! That would be off the charts! They could just rotate around the field next to each other C-3rd-SS-2nd-1st-RF-CF-LF-P.
  12. Thin pickings on the pitcher of the day. Hackimer will get a chance to redeem himself maybe tomorrow following the previous game's disappointment.
  13. Oh well, maybe he can suit up for just one pitch, with the bases empty and a guaranteed change up as the pitch.
  14. I was hoping to see Marwin on the mound in that 14-3 drubbing, but I'll have to wait for another day. Does anyone know if he has every filled in as a catcher? I want to see him play all nine positions during some game in September...
  15. That was really a telltale series. Tampa is more than decent and to take three of four was impressive. Odorizzi continues to amaze. He should be in the all star conversation, even though his name was not even mentioned in the article I looked at. That's outrageous! Very good hitting in high-leverage situations in this series, which is a very good sign. BTW, I loved the Polanco bunt with a runner on third. Fantastic call (or decision if he decided on his own). Buxton has made plenty of spectacular catches, but I wouldn't say that was one of them. The throw was magnificent however. His hitting in this series is what impressed me--including the sacrifice bunt in Game 2. The defense has been generally good, but for a second time over the past couple of weeks in a situation with runners on base and Harper on the mound. He gets a ground ball kicked around the infield. You can blame Harper, but Harper's job is primarily to get ground ball outs, so the infielders have to be on their toes. He did his job, but the infield did not. Nevertheless, to the scorers it is -.116 WPA because it looks like a rocket and Harper gets tagged with 2 of 3 IRS. That's life, but it also speaks to the reality that our vaunted defense has lapses.
  16. Hackimer let me down. That Cruz kid is a bit old to be still at high A. (BTW, Cruz's swing looks fine. The final turn of the wrists on the follow through look normal.)
  17. Can I just say it's nice having Marwin on this team? He's just one cool dude. There is only one position he can't play (catcher...I think he can't play it...can he?). I'm sure he could pitch an inning the next time we lose in a rout.
  18. I'd rather win the 5-3 game and lose the 14-3 game if I had to choose between the two. These last four games have had a postseason feel to them and the Twins are holding their own. Another dead horse to beat, but are there any signs of a Cruz return?
  19. There is no question he will hit home runs, but there is a point where home run power does not balance missed opportunities. I don't want the Sano who hits 30+ home runs but has an OBP of .215. A guy who hits 15 home runs with an OBP of .340 would be far more valuable and far more productive. Even the Sano we had last year could hit home runs, but he wasn't productive on other scales including WAR. In any case, don't get me wrong. I'm not down on Sano with the hope that he fails. I just want to see how things look in a month. As it stands right now, he is doing fine, but the sample is miniscule.
  20. That was a nice win. What a difference a year makes. That 9th inning scene was eerily similar to a game last year that we lost to the Rays--bases loaded one out and Rosie up. After just seeing the Ray's pitcher walk the bases loaded on four pitches, Rosie tried to hit the first pitch he saw 900 feet--an ankle high slider grounding into the inning ending doubleplay. Rosie is maturing. That was a beautiful display of the fact. Tampa not only has a terrible field but the fan support is alarmingly weak. If they can't draw fans when they're playing like this, I can only imagine how bad it must be in an off year.
  21. Thanks for posting the video. I confess that after reading the teaser, I skipped 2-9. What was impressive to me was the bat control Adley Rutschman displayed in the video. It's rare to see a switch hitting catcher, but he drove the ball to all fields from both sides of the plate. I doubt any team would pass him up regardless of projected needs.
  22. I also am beginning to warm up to the three catcher set up. It's tough giving up a slot, but when someone gets dinged, it's nice that you don't have to look in the refuse bin for a backup.
