Series Preview: Reeling in the Fish
Number3 replied to Ted Schwerzler 's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
Need the sweep today because Cleveland won't go away. Thought Houston had them yesterday. (Nothing to do with this thread, but why is a Noah Syndergard thread still near the top of this with 424 replies? Thank God the trade deadline is over because way too many GMs on this and other boards.) 2 down, 11 to go on the 13 game run.- 12 replies

Series Preview: Reeling in the Fish
Number3 replied to Ted Schwerzler 's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
Not the type of game Twins have gotten used to playing but take a W with only 4 hits and a game winner by Sano as proof that Twins can win this type of game. Good initial outing for Romo. Indians lost so lead at 3. Now at least win the series but a sweep would be sweet heading into the big home stand.- 12 replies

August 12 is the Twins' next off day. It is at the end of a rugged 13 game run starting tonight with 3 against the Marlins. Then its straight into a 10 game home stand concluding with 7 games against teams with Native American team names. 1 leads the NL East, the other is 2 behind the Twins in the AL Central. I think its fair to say that the standings on Aug. 12 will say an awful lot about the standings on Sep. 30.
-
Most disappointing of all in this thread is Royce Lewis, the number 1 pick in all of MLB draft when any pitcher was there for the taking. Hard to understand then Harder to understand now. 10 remaining against the Indians will probably decide the Central and maybe playoffs entirely. No way to be dissatisfied with this season no matter what since the Twins don't have a truly dominant player on either side of the ball. Truly a team effort. They will be right there at the end whether regular season or playoff series. Only question is where "right there" is. Out of playoffs all together or game 7 of World Series. The fact that any of those are still options headed into August is all you can ask for.

Twins Surprised Season Still Happening
Number3 replied to RandBalls Stu's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
Losing 2 to the Mets was the kicker, not 2 of 3 to the savages. I think its the NY on the uniforms that gets into the Twins' heads; probably from their heritage and ancestry getting clobbered by Murderers' Row and the Bronx Bombers. Better in July than October. As a famous past savage once said, "Its not over....." . You know the rest. -
It was a shame to see the Twins lose that series when they scored 27 runs and were outscored by 3 total. Now they need to go on a run with Berrios on the hill tonight. I still am as much concerned with Buxton's durability and Sano's failure to be the impact player he is touted as being. Anyone who thinks the competition doesn't make a difference must think baseball is golf and the teams just take turns playing against the ball park. 10 games left against the .309 Tigers. Thanks Ron. Yes, Gardenhire is the perfect manager for a .300 winning % team. I used to call .400 the Gardenhire line when he managed the Twins. Everyone bashes the bull pen but the starters' collective approach against the Yankees was awful and the pen did a nice job in game 1. Odorizzi had no control and was simply teeing it up for the savages. I would love to see a junk pither or a Greg Maddox type go against the Yankees who simply feast on power pitchers. "Didi" (or whatever his name is) eho drove in 7 in game 2 flatly said he looks for mistakes and hits them. to Killebrewlover, that is where my Number3 comes from. Go Twins!
-
1. Twins can still win the series. 2. Most teams are looking to strengthen their bull pen. 3. These are the Yankees about whom their own manager said are a bunch of savages. 4. Bull pen has had many nice efforts including Monday's game against the same team. 5. Recommending and pleading to get more talent in the bull pen is not exactly a stroke of genius. 6. I have a recommendation. Shake it off and go out tonight and score more runs than the savages do.

Banks 2583/512/1636 Mauer 2123/143/943 Plus, Joe Mauer never said, "Let's play 2". He usually said "I played yesterday, do I have to play today since its a day game?"

Game Thread: Twins vs. Yankees 5:10 pm PST (7:10 pm CST) 7/22/2019
Number3 replied to Blake's topic in Archived Game Threads
I cannot believe this is not ESPN's Monday night game instead of Red Sox - Rays. Can't be audience because Tampa has no audience. 2 first place teams as opposed to a 2nd v a 3rd. Makes no sense. No reason for Twins bats not to come alive. Just "see" CC for what he is and forget the NY on the uniform. Just go up there and pretend its BP. Hey Rocco, don't panic just because Perez gives up a couple of runs. Twins 2 of 3; I guarantee it. (Now I will call the Medicare help line, Joe. lol)- 911 replies

"At least Sano is looking like he wants to attempt real baseball. Excellent approach at the plate tonight for him." I know this was about Saturday's game which the Twins lost. In the game yesterday Sano was 0-5 with 6 lob and 2 ks. As far as Mauer in the HOF, Max Kepler has already had more walk-offs and "difference maker" games than Mauer ever dreamed about.
-
I truly hate to say it but Sano made 2 errors in Gibson's last start and I believe he is a liability in the field and totally unpredictable at the plate. I don't want to see him at 3rd in a really crucial game. Nice to see Baldelli leave Gibson in for 7. Score 5 or more and win. Score less than 5 and usually lose. Pretty simple formula. Applies again tonight.

"So the twins are starting to look kinda desperate for pitching. ........." Name a team that isn't. In the 3 game losing streak, Twins have scored 3, 2, and 4 runs (see 5 run rule) so only Cy Young award pitching would have won those games. In the 14-4 loss, Rocco pulled Perez for no reason. If the offense doesn't come around, it doesn't matter who they sign to warm the bench in the bull pen.

Series Preview: For Whom The Schedule Tolls
Number3 replied to Matt Braun's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
We had better double check our seat belts because could be rough riding ahead. Twins have had all decent starting pitching and overall pitching until yesterday but offense is collectively struggling. I don't understand why Rocco seems to believe that starters can only go 5 and after that the leash is about 1 inch long. Thank goodness Twins took 2 of 3 against the Indians or they would basically be tied now. Gibson up again tonight and Twins need to get him an early lead. Early second half gut check time. Should be interesting.- 19 replies

Can't believe the overall negativism on this thread. In case folks are not aware, this is called Major League Baseball as in the best on the planet. Believe it or not, the other team has talent and they are trying to avoid a sweep at home in a big series. When a team scores 4 runs or less they usually lose plain and simple. Twins scored 5 and 6 and won. Scored 3 and lost. They won the series and overall played great and pitching was as good overall as you could possibly hope for.Get the Mets tomorrow. Go Twins! Can't win every game 12-0 by the way.
-
Starting pitching, starting pitching, starting pitching, starting pitching starting with Kyle Gibson tonight. No more complicated than that. Do they need to be lights out every game? Of course not. But allowing 4 runs or less over AT LEAST 5 innings, preferably 6 or more is not too much to ask. 5 runs wins most games and the offense is capable of that most games. What is required of the bull pen is a game-game situation but offense and starters know what they need to do before the first pitch is thrown.

Blueprinting the Twins Deadline Plan
Number3 replied to Ted Schwerzler 's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
"We may have enough guys to get by in the pen if the starters can get some relatively deep starts." The run that the Nationals are on is a result of starters averaging 7 innings. Now its crunch time and if starters can't go deeper than 4 or 5 innings forget playoffs I don't care who they get in the pen. Maybe there is no magic wand to accomplish that but it must happen never the less.- 41 replies

Ben Hogan said that the most important shot in golf is the next one and the most important game in the Twins schedule is Friday's game against the Indians. A little nostalgia if I may. In the late 1950s I was a 12 year old transplant from the DC area, (home of the Washington Senators now you know who).My family had moved to S. Florida. The only baseball on TV back then was the weekend game(s) of the week and I remember watching one between the Senators and Indians with my friend from Cleveland. Not positive, but I am pretty sure that the play by play guy was Jack Buck. Joe wasn't born yet so the results of that game couldn't have had any influence upon him. Twins are in a little better position against the Indians now than those Senators were.
-
I have previously posted that July schedule is pretty smooth except for the 3 games against the Yankees. Well, the upcoming 3 games against the Indians might just be a little bit important as the Twins could wake up Monday morning anywhere from 8.5 to 2.5 games in front of the Indians. I have probably already been corrected on this but I had to post this for the record. Jack Buck's son has already proclaimed that the Indians will catch and pass the Twins so I guess its a done deal but at least make them struggle to do it.
-
If there is one player the Twins need on the field its Eddie Rosario. Hopefully he is back at 100% post All Star. The rest of July's schedule is favorable and, despite losing this game when it was there to be had, Twins did win the series. Don't look now but the Central is now the closest race with Cleveland now only 5.5 out and I think that is good. Twins should not be able to coast to the playoffs although it looked like they might be able to. I remember 2010 when the slide that lasted nearly a decade actually started with about 30 games left in the 2010 season even though they easily won the Central that year.

Not losing 3 in a row still equates to a .333 winning percentage so the key is still winning series as it always has been. Give them a pass on a 2-4 road trip but really need to win this home series against Texas. There really is not a lot of difference between winning and losing at this level so confidence and expecting to win must be maintained if the potential for this season is to be realized.

MIN 4, OAK 3: Twins Refuse to Lose Three in a Row
Number3 replied to AJ Condon's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
Pitching and small ball saved the day. 7 runs scored against the Twins in last 2 games on 2 swings. Otherwise pitching has been great. Berrios goes today so lets win the series, come home for Texas, win that series and enjoy the All Star break.- 47 replies

"Jake Odorizzi to the IL with a blister." Always amazed me that a Major League pitcher could suddenly develop a blister half way through the season unless they have changed their delivery (even unintentionally) or maybe experimenting with a new pitch (I hope that is the case). "This team is falling apart. The offense will always be there, but I have significant doubts anything meaningful will be accomplished with this pitching staff." I think most of the recent losses have been when theTwins haven't reached the 5 run mark and pitching has held its own. Even this loss was a grand salami being the culprit and pitching was ok otherwise. I do agree that the Twins' staff has no one that can be counted on from one appearance to the next it seems. Need to win tonight and avoid going into the break in a funk. Also, and I haven't checked the record yet, I think they were better as a team prior to Sano's return coincidence or not.

Twins should be able to go on cruise control/auto pilot for the second half. Just continue to avoid losing streaks. I don't think they have lost 3 in a row yet. Stay loose, stay on an even keel and stay healthy. When the Yankees come to town later this month I do think it should be treated as a mock playoff series because it very well may be.

TB 5, MIN 2: Twins Can’t Complete Sweep in 18-Inning Duel
Number3 replied to AJ Condon's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
Never seen so many 0-7 and 1-7 in a box score. Oh well, still won the series and on to Chicago. Be nice to see the regular outfield back in tact hopefully after the All Star beak if not sooner.- 27 replies
