  1. While every team has injury issues, the Twins seem to have more and more serious issues. I feel their approach to individual's physical health and rehabilitation has to come into question. The way Baldelli babies these guys with what seem to be minor injuries, it seems even more confusing. His resting of players throughout the season isn't the answer. Maybe they need to play through the minor aches and pains to build up some stamina or resistance. It's really confusing. so much so, that it seems to be more than a coincidence.
  2. Too much value placed on pitchers in MLB. They're all one ulnar nerve away from being a flop.
  3. The way Buck was hitting last year, you wouldn't think too much about the shift. He seemed to beat the shift by hitting the ball into the stands, on a lot of occasions.
  4. When I was a kid, baseball was king. No soccer, no video games, no other activities that competed with baseball. With teams full of players, you had to be the best at fundamentals to get more paying time. You also had parents who would lend their time to coaching. Now the parents hardly even drop their kids off at the practice field. How many times after dinner did I throw a rubber ball against the side of the garage practicing fielding. I can't remember how many MLB players I struck out, pitching against a brick wall. The bottom line, playing and honing your basic baseball skills was a common thing. My older brother schooled me in the strategy of baseball. He explained the cut off throw, the taking of an extra base, etc. So I firmly agree with the above comment. The basics are no longer ingrained. Kids spend the majority of their time in the batting cage. Baseball is such a more complicated game than swinging for the fences.
  5. Methinks the aroma of jealousy is wafting in the air.
  6. Correia's decision to stay or opt out is going to be on someone's shoulder, not his. If he stays, he'll look like a great guy, solely looking to build a championship for Twins fans. If he opts out, it will probably, make him look like a great family man, doing what's best for his family in the long run. The Twins will never will a bidding war for correia's services for a long period of time. So, he can just sit back, do his thing, and collect his dough. About the only thing he has to worry about, is getting hurt.
  7. Add another incident to Rocco's list of inadequacies. It's not the first time he's been guilty of not knowing the rules. Heck, if he doesn't have the official rulebook handy, he can 'google' it. The guy is a buffoon, and we've been suckered by not calling him on it, and holding him accountable.
  8. I believe the Twins lack of success is due in part to their minor league system. The Twins were notorious for always developing outstanding hitters in the 60's thru the 80"s, i.e. Oliva, Carew, Killebrew, Bostock. The minor league emphasized the basics. The Twins played the game soundly. Players promoted to the show, had the basics down. Throwing to the cut off man, bunting, taking the extra base, etc were all part of the Twins' game. Now it's home run derby and a prayer that our pitchers aren't as bad as the opposition.
  9. When the moon is in the 7th hour.
  10. Personally, long, sweaty hair rubbing against my neck would bother the hell out of me. He also said his nickname, Bulldog, enhanced his persona, as well.
  11. Jim Bouton, in his book Ball Four, wrote that a short haircut, a buzz, if you will, added x number of perceived mph to his fastball.
  12. Yes, but it's also probably true that many who supported the contract turned sour when it didn't pan out.
  13. I smell the Joe Mauer contract situation of years ago. All those who said we had to do what it takes to sign him. When things didn't unfold as expected or hoped, we heard complaints and moaning til his contract and playing days were over. If you rfeally think Mauer tanked, that's your business. But, I saw a guy trying to do his best on and off the field. Fair weather fans should migrate somewhere else. In Minnesota, you can't always predict the weather.
  14. Would everyone react the same if Cruz had twittered what Simmons, did?
  15. How long do we have to wait til the FO suddenly appears?
  16. Just sign Buxton to a lifetime contract. Make the contract worth his value for a couple of years. Once he retires due to injuries, he can join the gang of Hawkins, Morneau, Perkins, Cuddyer, etc. and do the PR gig. Buxton can host the Twins caravans and fishing expeditions. This is a stupid post. About as stupid as the FO wasting its time with this 'negotiation'.
  17. It was, but should not have been, except for the young Detroit starter, Skubal.
  18. Simmons is a difficult player to analyze. There's no question he has a 'knowledge' of the game. If you watch him play, you would see a high baseball IQ. He's always thinking ahead of the opposition and his own team. Unfortunately, that is forgotten when he makes an error on an easy play. We've seen him drop a throw to second. Do you really think he's not capable of catching a throw to second base? I think he's guilty of losing concentration, getting bored while watching our pitchers, and generally just angry at this whole season. So to say he's bad, is not really a fair statement. He needs to tighten up his game and concentration. but he's certainly not a bad player.
  19. The only stat that sours me on Rogers, and granted there are many in the same group, but his inherited runners that score is at 57% (stat from last week) for the 2021 season. I want my all-star reliever to do a better job of coming in and putting out the fire completely, most of the time.
  20. The only major knock on Rogers is that 57% of the runners he inherits, score. Granted, as a end of game reliever he comes in many times with runners on, but still, letting over half score from premiere reliever is a negative.
  21. You typed the words right out of my keyboard. Excellent post. LOL!
  22. Twins FO is most directly to blame for the team's woes this season so far.   Granted, some of Baldelli's moves have been questionable to darn right mind boggling, but the FO has done nothing in ways to provide him with any alternatives.  It's been like a carousel of pitches from the minors to the majors of young pitchers.  And the bullpen put together at season's start proved to be inadequate quite early.

No effort was seen by the fans from the FO to improve the bullpen.  No trades or even a signing of a free agent pitcher, not signed during during this past off season.  I know, it sounds fruitless to try and find someone, but at least it would show the fans that the FO was trying.

  23. Fine line sometimes between being a good team versus a bad team. It's the ability to learn from mistakes and don't make them again. Twins are too consistent in making the same mistakes and decisions over and over. I know a lot of posters will disagree with me on this point, but I'm a believer in designating players in specific field positions, and a batting order with a semblance of consistency. Our outfielders are constantly challenged just in playing in new ballparks, i.e. left field plays a lot differently than right field and so on. Soften the anxiety of playing a new position every other day and still needing to provide offense. Too many times have I seen managers set players up to fail. Now, with that said, players do need to be flexible and an occasional start here and there is beneficial.
  24. I agree, except for one thought I have. Let's cut bait and not wait this out for another several years.
