  1. I'd keep him and look to this offseason to make a decision on him. Try to extend him for a reasonable amount, and if he won't do it, you can always trade him then when you have a multitude of teams looking for starting pitching help. I just think with how well he's pitched, you have to at least consider making him a part of this team for the next few years. If he won't have it, or wants way too much money, then go and see what you can get for him, but I think a major sit down talk and see what we can do needs to happen before they trade him.
  2. 27 years old, just getting his shot, but not even full time this season. He's a AAAA player at best. He would have had his shot by now if he was going to be a shutdown reliever.
  3. Watch them pitch and you will know the answer. Do they have a 95mph moving fastball? A hammer breaking ball? Great changeup? The answer to all of them is NO and that is the reason they aren't here. Busenitz maybe, he throws hard. Gibson has always had a fastball with alot of run and a good breaking ball. This year he is finally keeping the ball down and commanding it left and right.
  4. To get Gibson a team is gonna have to give up one of their top 3 or so prospects. That's just what it is. A starting pitcher with his experience throwing as good as he has this year, with team control is as valuable as any asset in baseball. Not sure why people think he isn't worth anything. If the Twins were to try and pry a guy like that away from someone, you know dang well teams would be asking for the SS stud in the minors and/or Romero. I'd keep the guy unless the offer is significant. Gibson is better than any FA they would be able to sign the next couple years. If the move improves the team, then go for it. However if they dump him for some nobody or a guy in A ball or something, I would get the pitchforks out. Trade off the guys we won't sign next year for whatever we get if you don't want them back next year. Don't move Gibson or Pressly unless you get some REAL value close to the majors.
  5. Replace the names you had there with Sano, Buxton, Berrios and Kepler and you have what they fed to us a few years back. I don't trust that this next "wave" will be all that you are thinking they are. Are some of them going to pan out? Yep, they will. Will more of them fail than pan out? Yep. I think it needs to be a measured approach. Dumping anyone that is under team control right now looking forward to 2020 or beyond I think is a mistake. If they think they have a team that will be ready to rock in 2020 or so, they should be looking to build a team that is ready for 1 or 2 of those stud prospects to contribute to. Remember, Buxton and Sano still have plenty of potential and if they come back and do what we were all told they were capable of, this team can be pretty good. You also have a pretty nice starting staff right now with a guy like Romero waiting to do his thing. A guy like Gibson or Pressly can be a part of any team that looks to contend in 2020.
  6. Until he can lay off the junkballs on the outside part of the plate, he won't be able to do much. Everyone has him figured out and he hasn't adjusted. Seems simple, just hold up on anything out that way.
  7. Not sure what the answer is. For sure you must sell off anyone that is not in the plans for next year. Dozier, Lynn, Duke, etc. That said, they will have to make decisions on Escobar, Rodney, and Gibson. I'd have to get a good offer to trade Gibson and Escobar might be hard to resign. That said, if you go and dump all three of those guys and the three others, what do you have for next year? Are we AGAIN in full rebuild mode? Waiting another 7-8 years for anything worth a crap? I'm awful sick of it to be honest. We pinned our hopes on Buxton and Sano and what we've found out, is that our minor league system just flat out doesn't develop players very well. Do I want to wait another 10 years until this next group of "can't miss" guys get here? I don't know, we are in a no win situation here and it sucks.
  8. I'm not so sure why the Twins say Buxton is ready to come back. Even at AAA, he was getting owned at the plate. It's my opinion that they guy needs a ton of work to get back here. He has to hit .240 or better to be in the lineup. And I realize how good he is in the field. That said, he can't be an automatic out and expect to stay in the big leagues. Teach him to bunt or put the ball on the ground if that's what it takes. If he comes back though and is more of the same guess hitting, looking completely lost, etc, then I will be pretty disappointed in whatever it is they are supposed to be working on with him down there.
  9. Yah, the guy looks to be what he always has been. A guy that can give up some walks or a few hits here and there, but his stuff is still good. In fact, I can't believe how good it still is at his age. If anything, he passes to eye test IMO.
  10. Who said he is getting 10 mill a year? I'd sign him for 3/25 and not give 2 ****s if he plays 100-120 games around the infield if he's a backup. So sick of this type of thinking that spending a little bit of money is forbidden for this team. The payroll for this team as of right now and in Target field can and should be 120-150 million or more every year.
  11. Yes, when is the last time you saw a guy leave here in a trade then sign back? It rarely, if ever happens. Get a deal done with him either now before the season ends, or before the free agency period. I don't trade the guy. Once he goes to a winner, he will not want to come back to this losing organization.
  12. Curious why you think this way? Escobar can hold down a starting spot at 3 positions in the infield, hits the ball and will be able to be signed for pretty cheap. You want to give that up for nobody type prospect? A #5-6 starter type? What for? Escobar even if he gets paid is only going to get a 2-3 year deal. Worse case he starts another season then backs up the infield for the remainder. I'd sign him all day long and probably wouldn't deal him unless he are able to get something significant. Which, you most likely won't. Dozier is worth little to nothing. I'd guess his trade value comes in a a PTBNL type. An organizational 15-20 type prospect. He's been slug this season and it's hurt his value. Maybe he should have looked to sign a deal with the Twins this past offseason. Now he is in trouble IMO.
  13. I mean, honestly, does it really matter? As soon as Sano had to get sent down along with Buxton, this season was over. Those 2 held the keys for this season and completely tanked. In fact, they hold the keys to this organization's success or lack there of for the next few years. If they can't make it, this will turn into ANOTHER rebuild. Fun...
  14. That's just it. Those clamoring for Gordon better just get ready. He's a slap hitter at best and likely not a difference maker anyway.
  15. Maybe he is going down there to condition and get in shape? Honestly, he could use it. That and I'm sure this is kind of a wakeup call that he has to WORK if he wants to get better or he will flame out quickly.
  16. Wow, I am surprised they sent him all the way down that far. I'm sure it is to work with someone specific or something of that nature. Maybe they are going to break him all the way down and build him back up. Send Buxton there too if he comes back and is terrible. These guys have totally disappointed and there are zero signs of them figuring anything out.
  17. Yep, I don't think it's going to happen. When one thing goes right, the other fails each game. That's the sign of an incosistent, marginal team. If they can finish the season at .500, I guess that would be good. That said, I thought this year would be a step forward. Instead, it's been a step back and now we are worrying that the 2 hyped up "chosen ones" are just that - hype. Let's hope not, if those 2 can't carry us, it's gonna be another pretty long stretch of bad Twins teams.
  18. Should have damn near been obvious. You watch him guess and not be able to control the strike zone at all right now. I'm guessing it was like that at all levels. He got away with guessing against mediocre stuff in the minors with pitchers who are trying to get better and aren't polished. That is what they pay scouts for. They should damn well be able to pick that out. And if they can't then they aren't good at their job.
  19. Trade him for what though? A fourth outfielder prospect?? LOL. He won't net anyone worth much so why trade? If you are trading him for potential, just keep the potential he has and see if he figures it out. Dumb to trade him for sure and it will 100% not happen. PS, the league has film too on his hitting. They know he cannot hit his weight. Either way, I wouldn't trade him unless if was for a young controllable player already in the league who is producing. It's not worth it for the Twins to send him out for another question mark.
  20. He can get on base? No, he can't in fact he is borderline terrible at doing so. I'm with you about bunting. Also, I don't think the reason he is struggling is the fact that the Twins are trying to get him to hit HRs or power hit rather than look to dump in singles, etc. They would take ANYTHING from him at the plate. Right now, he gives nothing at the plate and is lost to the point where it will soon be time to sit him down some.
  21. Buxton is the best outfielder in the game and the best outfielder the Twins have ever had. He helps this team so much on defense, it is unreal. That said, he can't hit. Or at least, he hasn't yet. He's had some good 2nd halfs of seasons, but remember September numbers against call-ups and teams that are out of it, don't count for much. At this point, I am of the belief that the guy will never be better than an average hitter. I just don't think he will be. He has a terrible approach at the plate, guesses WAY to much at pitches and when he gets the chance, rarely does anything with pitcher's mistakes. Right now, in his 1000 at bats or so that he has, I bet he ranks right near the very bottom of the MLB barrel. I hope he figures it out. I do for sure. He has all the talent in the world. I just don't have a ton of faith that he will actually do so to the point of being that great hitter everyone is expecting him to be. One other thing though, a Byron Buxton that hits .240/.330/.400 would be more than adequate and with his defense still make him an extremely valuable part of this team. To get to even that point though, he has a long way to go.
  22. What was he doing then? He threw hard and was our best reliever for a stretch. If I mispoke and gave him more credit than he was due, whatever. My point is he was an effective reliever and threw hard.
  23. Yah, May has to prove himself again in order to get a chance. Right now, I see him as a long shot to ever make the Twins rotation. He was at his best when he was coming in and throwing 95-98mph gas and breezing through the 8th inning. I'm sorry for him if he feels like that is not where we get the most out of him, but I think it is. I'd love to see him come back with that heat and become an effective reliever with this club. That has plenty of value to this team IMO.
  24. What I am saying is that no one cares about Lo Mo because he just isn't an important piece of the team. Glen Perkins was railed on by quite a few people for being chubby and lazy also. I don't care what Fernando Romero looks like either if he keeps pitching like he has. Buxton has all kinds of criticisms on the daily. I've said it before he is as soft as charmin. People talk about Sano because he is a cornerstone type of player. At his best, he's a giant in the lineup and a huge part of this team.
  25. I think wherever you put him the Twins need to do their best to bring this guy back. He has done nothing but produce, he's never hurt, you rarely hear anything negative about him. Worse case you bring him back and have possibly the best utility infielder in the league.
