  1. I like this post. And to make matters worse. The guys they traded for last year weren't able to be dealt this deadline for anything worth a snort. But they sure as heck were enough to pry the Twins best reliever away from us last year. What a huge loss not having Pressly on this team is. And I don't want to hear he wasn't as good here from anyone. He was studly towards the end of his time with the Twins. The Astros saw it, offered us some prospects that project as a back of the rotation guy and a 4th outfielder and the Twins couldn't resist. Those are exactly the types of players they can hold onto and pay nearly nothing to fill out a major league roster.
  2. Honestly, burn it. Who cares. If he is as good as advertised, you won't need all of those option years because he will be up and playing with the big club. That said, if he comes up and struggles mightily and has to be sent back down, I think you lose a little of his trade value if you are thinking there is any chance you move him this offseason. There is also the confidence thing. He might not be ready and by exposing him and possibly him failing, you might do more harm than good to the kid's development.
  3. I'm just worried that our starters are wearing down. It seems like it to me. Hopefully this is just a bad stretch they are going through. But with Pineda hurt, Berrios velocity down last game, Perez struggling mightily and Gibson not able to throw strikes, it just has the feel of a staff that is starting to get tired. Hope they can dig down and give us what we need from them to continue forward and do some more winning. They literally need to take 2 of these last 3 against Cleveland so our division lead can stay where it was when this series started. We will see I guess.
  4. Duffey? I don't think so. He isn't any more trustworthy than the worst guys out there. If I'm Rocco I go to the FO and tell them I want these young fireballers up here. I also go to Romo and Rogers and tell them to eat their wheaties because we have to lean on you heavy. Bottom line either way. Our starters have to at least keep you in games. I mean give up 4 runs over 6 innings and we have a chance with this team. Lately, they haven't even been able to do that.
  5. Just can't walk so many guys. That is where the game was lost. Just come out and give us even a marginal performance in these last 3 games and we are sitting pretty right now.
  6. Can’t walk so many guys. That was another terrible pitching effort. That’s 3 games in a row now of bad pitching. Done with May. No more high leverage situations. From here on out in close games or games against real teams, it’s Rogers, Romo, and I want our 100mph kid from the minors. The FO failed this team so now you gonna need to ask a ton more out of the 5-6 guys on this entire staff that are any good
  7. Huge series. No it won't decide the division but a whooping put on one team or another could severely hurt the other's chances and put whichever into a tailspin. I will predict a split or the Twins win 3 of 4. I just think we are a better team. However, if our pitching doesn't show up. Like it was in the Braves series, this could go the wrong way fast. Pitch the damn ball guys. It's time for a few of them to step up, this offense has carried us all season.
  8. No. That is all. He is your starting shortstop and part of the heart and soul of this team.
  9. Either way all of this could have been avoided had the Twins went after it and picked up Diaz or Vazquez. They didn't though and tried to little engine that could their way into a cheap guy that wouldn't cost them much in prospects. I don't feel bad for them one bit. They got what they paid for.
  10. Exactly. This is an unprecedented season from our offense. The best in Twins history maybe. And you add 2 marginal BP guys. They should have been looking to add the best starter available and the best reliever available and fans should expect nothing less.
  11. Nice post/article. I don't see Dyson as IMPACT help any way you slice it though. Not in my opinion. If he was impact help, he would have cost us a prospect that other teams see as a real part of their future. Impact help in the BP was Diaz from the Mets. Or some other guy with hard stuff and hammer breaking pitches. At best, even if we were getting the type of guy we thought we were, Dyson is a guy that doesn't strike many out, and has marginal type stuff. Is he better than what we had? Probably, or at least when healthy he should be. But I wouldn't call it impact help. Just my opinion. The twins scouting department and FO should be scolded heavily for this mistake. Getting a guy that was injured and showing signs of it before he was traded feels like they didn't do their homework on him. He was in a stretch of sucking before he got here, and he's been bad/hurt here now.
  12. Right because if you believe in the core you have right now, then you either add to it with players from outside your organization, or you use the guys that are being asked for in trades to help them out. I'm not 100% for signing Free Agents all the time for big deals by any means. But I do believe in trading prospects for proven players when the time is right. 2006, 2010, and now 2019. These are the 3 years in the past 15 that this team has had a real chance to go for a WS. So far, no additions that makes anybody turn their heads. Also, if we can all recall, what happened to our teams after those seasons? Anyone remember? I sure do. They MISSED the playoffs and were back to mediocrity for quite some time again. If their plan had worked, then those teams would have been able to sustain competitiveness right after those good seasons. In fact, they did NOT, so I don't see what the big hub-ub is/was with holding onto piles of these guys all the time, when we all know that there are weaknesses that needed to be addressed to give these teams a real shot to do well in the playoffs.
  13. I agree with you 2. It’s all bs and lip service. When has this organization gone all in? EVER? No they haven’t. What makes you think they will now next year? Guess what? Max Kepler ain’t hitting 40 bombs next year and you likely aren’t getting 30 out of your catcher spot either. Also having a 39 year old DH that is RAKING sure helps but shouldn’t be counted on for another season either. Things have fell right and the team has played well this year yet they still didn’t add. Also, this article states Toronto wanted our top 2 prospects for Stroman. I highly doubt this is true as they settled for 2 guys that wouldn’t even make this organizations top 10.
  14. Let’s pump the breaks a bit about this guy being in the rotation next year. His stats show almost a hit an inning. My guess marginal stuff at best and gets shelled up here but we will see.
  15. They are gonna have to start getting creative. Especially when rosters expand. Time to use the opener/primary pitcher strategy. We simply do not have good enough arms to go more than 3-4 at most deep in the rotation. They are gonna have to mix it up. And also hope Berrios gets back into form, Pineda gets healthy and Gibson can be consitent. Hopefully those 3, Rogers and Romo can get us through the playoffs. Because as I see it, that is about all we have throughout the entire pitching staff.
  16. Yes, and their rotation looks to be as good as anybody's. They don't have Berrios and pray. Nevermind the fact our cheap ass FO could have had their #2 guys with ease. Without even giving anybody up. But, of course, they need the money to gold plate their toiletseats.
  17. They were good in 92 also. Had they not Pohladed their way out from under Jack Morris, they'd have been back in the playoffs again. But alas, they were CHEAP as has been the case for years and years here and Morris went on to win another WS in Toronto.
  18. This is the kind of move I would endorse. Why not try it? No sense running out slugs that have extremely hittable stuff when you are vying for a playoff spot and have the best lineup here you've had in years. Use all your bullets. They wouldn't trade any of them, so let's use them to our advantage somehow this season yet.
  19. And they also don't hit the ball that great. Twins will win the division. Then they will win maybe one game in the playoffs. Welcome to Twins territory where we are tickled pink to have a chance as long as we hold onto our prospects.
  20. No. He's spent, cooked, over the hill. IDK what's his stuff look like? He bringing 96 with a hammer breaking ball? Cause if he's not, he isn't worth it.
  21. Not too worried overall about this club as it pertains to winning the division. I still think they do that without a problem. What I am worried about though, is their chances in the postseason. These last few weeks, they are really starting to look like a one and done type candidate. This lineup is fantastic as a whole, best I've seen watching this team for a number of years and that includes the 2 WS teams. The pitching staff though. There is one hammer in the whole group and that's Rogers. Even Berrios is a #2 type starter, he's been merely decent the last month or so. This club if they wanted to win big this season, had to overapay to get 1 fantastic reliever and 1 ace type pitcher. They brought in so far what looks to be 1-1.5 decent, not great relievers. Sad to say, but don't expect this kind of season out of Kepler, Polanco, Cruz, Cron etc going forward. This is the perfect storm of guys hitting the cover off the ball. Not saying these guys won't be good going forward, but, this is an unprecedented year as far as hitting the ball goes. I fear that once again our ownership and front office are punting on a chance to really take this all the way.
  22. Way, way off. Berrios alone is enough to get it done if that's what you want to do. What team trades Ace for ace though? And the suggestion about trading Berrios AND Buxton for Degrom? Come on now, what kind of drugs do you think our front office is on? No way either of those 2 get packaged up and traded unless you get back 1-2 of the better players in the entire league for them.
  23. Why is that? When healthy, he's the best rental option out there. He has the best stuff. The cat from Toronto or any of them are soft tossing gopher ball pitchers. Give me guys with elite stuff. This team doesn't need and shouldn't go after guys that don't throw hard or have hammer breaking stuff.
  24. An excuse. A reason for them to act as if they don't have money to spend when it is needed like now. Snakes. That the main reason people are still down on this club. Players are great, team is great. Ownership is, was, and always will be Penny pinching misers.
  25. And therein lies the problem with the Twins. To most every other other, it's not a business. It is a toy, a plaything for them to do as they wish. Of course they don't want to lose money all the time, but when there is a chance to win, most all teams go for it. Twins never have and likely never will.
