  1. Your post here is great, but this comment about Rosario seems a little funny. It's almost as if you haven't watched games and just are typing this looking at numbers. Rosario has been the heart and soul of this offense the past 2 seasons. He's a fixture if I'm the GM.
  2. I'll bet it is too. And I will also bet he ends up being the second coming of Logan Morrison.
  3. I also think he might be a better defensive player than he is given credit for. I'd feel safe with him playing either corner infield spot and catching once or twice a week.
  4. Yep, he's casting a bit in the older ones and doesn't look like he has much weight transfer/lower body working for him. Looks much more strong/connected in the second video. Maybe the guy has it dialed in now and we are in for some consistent power?
  5. Also, what other kind of guy you want around to come in and pinch hit for you? He literally doesn't strike out and will put the ball in play almost every at bat.
  6. I just find a roster spot for this guy almost no matter what. I don't care if you have to start him at 1B or move him around and get him 3 days a week all over the diamond. This guy is a baseball player and has the kind of fire you want around your team. Plays the game HARD. I think he adds a win or 2 this season, just by being around the club.
  7. That's fine, but I just feel like it's pointless to report this. I also feel like there is a chance they aren't being truthful about it either. We have seen many times in the past the Twins report injuries as being minor, then turn out to keep the player out for a much longer period of time than it feels like it should have.
  8. Maybe you aren't looking at the players you are choosing from here. All 3 are castoff players. My choice would have been to go with Sano at 1B and find a 3B. Could have tried to get Escobar back here to play there, or signed Josh Donaldson.
  9. Put a F-ing band aid on it and get to work. This kind of stuff is dumb that it is even reported.
  10. You're right. But even an OPS around .750 ish. 5 mil a year seems like a deal for this type of production for a middle infielder.
  11. If they were smart, they might front load it though, or just pay him 5 mil per year. They have the money now, might as well use it. No sense in being cheap to him now and paying more later, it would make him much more tough to move if indeed that is something that has to be done later.
  12. If he OPS in the .800, for sure it is. 5 mill a year for a strong hitting middle infielder is fair.
  13. That's why most of us just wanted them to sign Cruz, which they did, and bring in 2-3 TOP relief arms. I think that is all that was needed to be competitive in the Central. The problem is, they brought in a couple scrap heap pitchers and are hoping and praying on their bullpen. They had the money, they should have identified who they thought were the best 2 out there available in either FA or trade and paid whatever it took to get them. They didn't and that's why most are frustrated.
  14. Do what you just did with any player and you can make them look good. If this guy didn't have this bad stretch, they would be great. Hope you are right though and he is just young and small.
  15. I'm talking guys over 30. I agree with you about Machado and Harper, although it seems I worded it wrong in that post. These are rare cases where these guys are young, in their prime and have already reached unrestricted FA. I'm not bothered by the guys getting money, I am just opining on the observation of the last couple years of free agency. You and I are on the same page most of the time. I just see it as going this way. Or at least that is what it looks like right now or I don't think you would have this many good free agents still unsigned this late.
  16. Keuchel is getting a 1-3year deal IMO. That is the way it's gonna go down for him. There is little interest in him, I'd say he's a #3-4 type guy going forward. Just my opinion. I'd see if they can't pay him handsomely for 2 years and see if you can get a team option for the 3rd year, or I'd pass. Guys over 30, especially pitchers are from now on, just not going to get paid like they once did. Most of those deals the past 10 years haven't worked out. GMs and owners are wising up. I don't see Harper or Machado getting the deals they want either. Both are gonna see offers in the 4-6 year range. Teams are done giving out 10 year deals for guys that only perform for 3-4 years at best. The free agent market is finally correcting itself and IMO, that is a good thing for teams like the Twins. If they want to be players, now they are going to be able to. Salaries and contract lengths were getting insane.
  17. 2/70? That wouldn't hamstring the team at all. If that's what it took, I'd take Harper all day long and so would the Twins most likely.
  18. And this was probably the right play. Put Romero in there if you aren't going to sign the best FA pitcher out there. Put Romero in and buy or trade for the best bullpen piece you can get your hands on. Even using the large lefthanded kid in the rotation would have been preferable IMO. At the very worst, the guy shows he has a little something to the league and you can flip him packaged up for something decent. The league by now knows Perez isn't worth much.
  19. Just win baby and it would happen. When you suck 9 out of 10 years, you don't build a loyal fan base. Look at the Vikings. Yes, they have disappointed but have always been competitive and have had ownership groups and front office management that brought in the best they could. Their fans reward them for it.
  20. This is why you employ a scouting department. You have stats guys, baseball guys, guys that need to know how these FA's tick, their work ethic, etc. These guys are PAID to do this stuff. Do some research and scout them. That is how you do things smarter. Figure out, is signing a one year wonder like Logan Morrison worth it? Or could we fill in with someone in our system and get similar production? How about a 1 year contract to a pitcher that hasn't been any good - ever? Is he going to be better than what we have in house? Or is this just wasted money to look like we are out thinking everybody?
  21. And if that were enough to get him and that offer truly is out there, then he would have signed already. Don't let the reports about Twins offering money get to you. What they are offering is below market value, you can bet on that. They know there is a very slim chance he signs that type of contract, but by leaking that info - The "Hey! We tried!!" is still alive and well as per usual.
  22. It sounds as if they are so far over the luxury tax line, they don't want to push it much farther. I also think that playoff performance soured them some as well as others or he would have been signed already.
  23. Yah, cause they've done such a beautiful job of identifying and developing pitching prospects.
  24. If just Kiriloff does it, that would be a tough decision, but hard to turn down. We are talking about the best catcher in the game that is still young for a kid that is an extremely talented hitter, but is in A ball. He might turn into a stud major leaguer, but he also might not be a star at all, hell, he might not even make it to the major leagues. That said, if the team is up for trading Kiriloff, yes, I would shop him to the Mets or someone and bring in a #1 starter type first before I give him up for the catcher. That said, Kiriloffs value is huge right now. What happens if he has a bad season this year? Or he gets hurt? He could go from coveted prospect, to a guy no one wants all in one season. Hard decision...
  25. Those 4 won't flop because they are one year deals. The front office thinks they might flop because they are marginal players to start with. That is why he is talking like that IMO. He knows those 4 are scrap heapers and may be decent, or may be terrible.
