  1. While he is an asset in the field he has become a liability at the plate. The 2019 Bomba Squad did more to ruin the players on the Twins roster than it did to help them. Too many guys are going up to the plate looking to pull the ball and only hit Home Runs when they should be trying to just make good solid contact and hit the ball to all fields. There needs to be a dramatic shift away from being pull happy and home run happy for the Kepler's and Sano's to become successful again. If they don't change their approach at the plate the results will stay the same..... Batting averages around .200, with high strikeouts or hitting into shifts for easy outs. The biggest thing in baseball is making adjustments. The successful players do it, the ones that don't fail. Kepler needs to adjust.
  2. Hoping all 3 improve over last season. Chances are it will only be 1 or 2 that will get better. As far as helping the Twins Celestino could have the biggest impact. With LF still open and the Buxton injury bug always just around the corner, we really don't want to see Jake Cave getting significant time anywhere in the outfield, so let's hope Celestino can fill some shoes. I agree with the points on Gordon... why can't he play SS at the major league level? Have been wondering that since he was brought up and Simmons did nothing at the plate. I consider Rortvedt a second coming of Drew Butera. Great defensively but will probably never contribute much with the bat. I'd like to see him prove me wrong.
  3. It'll be interesting to see what kind of shape Sano is in when he comes back for 2022, knowing he said he was going to lose some weight this off-season. With the current lockout he may have even more time to get that done. While the guy can hit the ball as far as anyone I wish he'd change his approach at the plate completely, and until he does, I don't think anything will change even if he comes into the new year in better shape. He has to quit swinging for the fences every time he takes a swing. Instead of using every ounce of energy to hit the ball as hard as he can, turn down the power and just try to make solid contact. If he could hit 25 HR, 40 doubles and bat .250 he'd be a much more productive hitter. Have the coaches in the system even tried to get him to do that or does he just not listen. When you are terrible in the field and a hole in the lineup you should be easy to replace. Yet, I believe he'll get every chance to play every day on a roster that has many other options for 1B and DH. Kirilloff should be the every day 1B man. Donaldson, Garver, Miranda and Arraez should rotate at the DH spot. Sano should be traded even if it's only for a bag of peanuts. Based on his past performance and if he doesn't change, the Twins would be a better team without him.
  4. Dylan Bundy, signing one of the 3 Free Agents you list and a trade for 1 pitcher who's better than both is a solid off-season? I started laughing when I read that. Yes by Twins standards that is solid. #1. Greinke is an aging vet who's best seasons are behind him, which makes him exactly the type of player the Twins try to sign. #2, Kikuchi and Pineda would not be difference makers, so again right down the Twins alley. #3. Trade for someone better than all 3, yes, if you trade away players that are holes in the lineup, like Sano and Kepler. Doubt that will happen. Instead it'll be a good hitter like Arraez and or a prospect that they should hang onto and would be able to if they used the Free Agent market like they should in the first place instead of waiting for left-overs.
  5. Why was Target Field built? So this organization could compete for the best talent available. Yet they continue to be bottom feeders. Yes the Pohlads say the checkbook is open and the FO does not use it. Who's fault is that? The fans? I highly doubt the Pohlads are NOT making more than enough money to afford a top player or two in the Free Agent market when there are $100 tickets, $10 beers, $7 hotdogs, over-priced souveniers, not to mention the revenue from the Bally Sports network. Don't tell me that organizations like Detroit or Texas, which both signed top talent this year in Free Agency, have so much more revenue that they can afford it and the Twins can't. It is the fact that they choose not to. You have been led to believe that because the Twins have always been cheap that they can't change. Again, it is because they choose not to. Not because they can't.
  6. My point exactly, They never get the best player possible. Why not sign Rendon? Why does this organization always have to sign someone with less talent or in the decline of their career. Quit being cheap. Quit taking left-overs. Maybe then they would quit losing playoff games and actually show they are committed to winning.
  7. Hopefully he can adjust to the off-speed stuff. The other thing he needs to work on is hitting to all fields. What I saw was a deadpull hitter with little attempt to hit the ball the other way. It's great to pull HomeRuns into the seats but if you can slash doubles to the opposite field gap then you become a much tougher out. The bomba squad in 2019 hurt this team more than it helped them cause now everyone outside of a guy like Arraez think all they have to do is hit HRs.
  8. I wonder why the Twins decide to give out big contracts to aging veterans (Donaldson) or oft-injured players (Buxton) and not to players in their prime. Could it be that then they would have to compete for the services of really good players that would actually help them when that player is really good? I don't know what kind of money Toronto gave him when he was in his prime but wouldn't it be great if Minnesota would do something like that? To me signing Donaldson was just another example of the Twins being cheap even if they spent more money than anyone expected. For heavens sake, give a little more and get players in the prime of their career so your return is better. A guy like Trevor Story is 29 years old, not 34. He's at the best point of his career. One can only imagine how much a player like him would impact the Twins roster. Unfortunaltely my guess is the Twins will take the cheap option and sign someone at SS who won't matter like an aging veteran that they can get cheaper. Most of the time you get what you pay for. aka Simmons, Shoemaker, Happ .......... and Donaldson who despite his analytical stats just isn't the player he once was.
  9. An article on Zack Granite. Yikes, new Twins news is really slow. LOL!
  10. The biggest thing to consider for both Santana and Nathan is that the game has changed. The type of game they played isn't anything like the game Koufax or Kaat played. Back then you were expected to pitch a complete game if you could. Santana had a few complete games but Gardy was more than happy to get 7 innings out of him, go to a setup guy and have Nathan pitch the 9th. Trying to compare todays pitchers to those 50 years ago just isn't fair or even using common sense. I think both should get in based on their numbers. There are a lot more just as deserving, like Wagner.
  11. Please tell me that the Dodgers and Yankees goal isn't to try to win it all every year. Sure they have the added revenue to make it much easier but that is why you play. Did the Twins go into 2021 expecting not to compete for a Championship especially coming off of 2 successful seasons? Falvine signs left-overs to get the team to the next level? Just like they have done this off-season to try to turn the team back into a winner? What is their goal if it isn't to win it all each season? Oh yeah, they told us..... it's to be competitive. If being competitive is to win a few games they are really good at doing that. Some day it would be nice to win the games that really count. It's been 30 years since that has been done.
  12. I don't think it becomes a good ol boys club if you separate the players who are voting from who they played with and when. I never said it should just be a free-for-all. For instance, a group of players would be selected to do the voting, some from different era's. They can't vote for players that played at the same time they did or for the same teams they played for. Make the guys voting as unattachable to the players they are voting on as possible. The thing about going to the Hall is that it is subjective to who deserves it and everyone has a different opinion on what is deserving and what isn't. Who better to decide this than the guys that actually played the game.
  13. Looking back 3 years it is safe to say that the off-season moves haven't worked for any of them. I don't see any World Series titles attached to them. We were told they plan on being competitive in 2022. That is not the same thing as saying they plan on trying to win a Championship. Isn't that the goal? Shouldn't that be the goal every year? Otherwise why are you playing? When you have a club that wins 100 games and you don't make it better what have you done? Nothing! Why pick from leftovers? If you want to get better short-term and sustain it long-term as well, the best way to do that is through Free Agency so you don't have to trade away your prospects, who help you long-term. Is trading away a stalwart in the rotation like Berrios a good way to get better short-term when you already know the rotation needs help? Doesn't look that way to me. I hear a lot of talk from Falvine but don't see much action that can really make a difference.
  14. The writers should not be voting for HOF candidates. The fans shouldn't either. It should be done by the players. Who better to decide who deserves it than the people who actually played?
  15. The "very simple solution" is to just sign Trevor Story or Carlos Correa but we know the Twins won't open their pockets to do that. (Even though that was the purpose of building Target Field). When they add Free Agents like Bundy, Cotton, Megill, Rodriguez and Fisher we know what their plan is. (Cheap, Cheap, Cheap). Could you imagine how many more fans would be in the stands if they would have signed just a couple of these guys: Robbie Ray, Marcus Stroman, Eduardo Rodriguez, Jon Gray, Kevin Gausman, Max Scherzer, Marcus Semein, Corey Seager, Javier Baez, Story or Correa? Don't think they could have? Detroit did! Texas did! If the current crop of up and coming prospects don't pan out, (if that is their plan) then we can kiss another decade of baseball goodbye because they won't use the FA aspect of the game to their advantage.
  16. Another Dumpster Dive, Hope and Prayer or Catch Lightning in a Bottle. Some things never change.
  17. My 2 favorite Twins players. The heroics of Puckett in the 91 World Series does it for me. Trying to compare the 2 is tough. No doubt Carew was magical with the bat. No one in his era was better than him at getting on base. I was also amazed at how many times Rod stole home. The thing that impressed me most about Puckett was the fact he could hit almost any pitch to any part of the field even if it wasn't a good pitch to hit. Had Kirby waited for a better pitch to hit he undoubtably would have walked more and his OBP would have been much higher. If you break down each of their careers only looking at their bats Carew had more seasons but both had 12 really good seasons. Carews numbers in the other 7 seasons were good but they weren't like the other 12 and Pucketts were all really good.
  18. He wouldn't have mattered in the 2019 playoffs. The Twins were beat in all 3 games before he would have been used out of the bullpen. The 3 games against the Yankees were 10-4, 8-2. and 5-1. No chance he would have made a difference. In 2020 it wasn't pitching that caused them to lose against Houston, it was that they couldn't score. Only 1 run in each game.
  19. Berrios had no intention of staying with the Twins and Pressly resigned with Houston because it is home for him. Both wanted to play for an organization that is committed to winning, not pretending or just being "competitive".
  20. Not sold on any of these 3 and relying on 1, 2 or all 3 of them to make a comeback only proves 1 thing.... the Twins are desperate.
  21. I think the bullpen additions to the Twins have already been made..... Jharrel Cotton and Trevor Magill. There's also Derek Rodriguez and Dylan Bundy if they don't pan out as starters.
  22. Hindsight makes for an easy evaluation. Losing Pressly at the time hurt but looking at the Twins since then they haven't done anything (no playoff wins) since he's been gone. So, that makes the trade a positive for the Twins. I'm most excited about Alcala and hope Baldelli gives him the closer job out of spring training. There was no reason why he should not have had it the whole month of September instead of Colome. Finally the last game of the season he got to close a game.
  23. Only way I trade Arraez is for a front line starting pitcher. I would pencil him in at 3B every day until he proves to me he can't play the position. I think with more playing time there he fills in rather well. maybe not great but keeping his bat in the lineup makes up for an error or lack of range occasionally. Donaldson slides to the full-time DH role. Both have knee issues and if one of them breaks down then I go to Miranda to cover for them. With that in mind, the Twins need to get a SS that can cover some ground and help fill the hole between SS and 3B. That too makes fielding easier for whoever they put at 3b.
  24. Unfortunately Kepler is trending downward while Polanco, Buxton and Garver are going up or staying about even. Cruz is gone so he doesn't matter.
  25. I would have to agree with miracleb on this one. Kepler has had 1 season with a batting average above ,250. 1 season with a slugging percentage above .500. 1 season with a HR total above 30. 1 season with an on-base-percentage above .330. All of them happened in 2019. Outside of that season he's been pretty much average to below average at best.
