  1. I'm no pitching analyst, but I've heard that the arm angle and the higher delivery point of the pitch can be a factor in the effectiveness of taller pitchers too. Is that true or another nonsense argument?
  2. The signings of Chafin and Hendriks had me somewhat encouraged that we were belatedly putting together a fairly decent bullpen. But as others have pointed out, there is a reason why they were still available that late in the post-season. But it's also not surprising the Twins are in this position. Instead of going out and targeting a truly solid arm (or two), they waited until February and went dumpster diving again. Will they ever change their strategy?
  3. I'd like to see more of a shift towards youth too, but I actually like Bell and think he will be a productive player for the the Twins this season. I'm hoping he spends more time at DH than first base, but maybe he will surprise/shock us and give the Twins another gold glove first baseman!
  4. I might be willing to give him until May 1, but no longer.
  5. I'm with you; worried about Topa and encouraged somewhat by Altavilla and Kent. But who is best to open the season in the bullpen? I leave that up to the coaches and the manager. Gotta hold out hope that a few of these arms hold up and can give us good results. But like most everyone else on here, I'm more than a bit wary.
  6. Probably not, but it's not a huge amount of money and they need to consider doing it to free up a roster spot for a more effective pitcher. Topa sure hasn't impressed yet this spring.
  7. Shopped?! That would indicate that he has some sort of value to another team. Don't see it.
  8. Very cool to see those young men still grinning. But I have to say I'm not crazy about that Yankees cap! I assume that is Pedro on the right?
  9. Very true. They were aggressive and made some good moves while the Twins played their usual waiting game. That said, I still think the Chisox are a sub .500 team, while I still hold out hope that the Twins can actually battle for a playoff spot. Lots of things need to go right obviously, but I still think we have the stronger team. But we can't assume the Chisox are pushovers, They have improved and hungry for more wins.
  10. Not an encouraging report. But if he's not fully healthy or completely recovered from that surgery, I suppose it's better to use some caution and not rush him back. But hey, like most everyone else, I'm impatient and want to see him on the mound again.
  11. True, But it seems like we draft a bunch of shortstops every year. It's almost become a running joke. Great; another shortstop. So what is going wrong with all these picks?
  12. Gotta give you points for using Bruce Chen as a comparison. Hadn't thought about him in many years!
  13. I wasn't that excited about the Josh Bell signing at first, but reading more about him, and seeing the positive results so far in Spring Training have me feeling much more optimistic ... about him as the DH in any case. Still not sure how he's going to handle first base.
  14. Nice bullpen game from the Twins, plus Bradley was effective. Hope to see more of those clean bullpen innings in the regular season. Hey, I can hope, can't I?
  15. Yeah, barring an injury, or some unexpected regression, I would hope/expect that Culpepper makes his MLB debut sometime this summer.
  16. I'm still hopeful, but also a bit pessimistic about Lee's development at this point. But hey, he's still a Twin and I really want him to succeed. But this season is crucial for him. If he can hit like we hoped he could when we drafted him, we'll find a position for him. But shortstop may not be a long-term place for him.
  17. I'm not a fan of this WBC. Get Buxton back in camp with the Twins.
  18. Sure, Outman is having a good spring, but you could argue that Gonzalez and Rodriguez are having even better camps. Sure, those two players have options remaining and are no doubt slated for AAA, but I would love for the Twins to show some imagination and courage and keep one of those kids on the team and find a way to jettison the likes of Larnach and/or Wallner. Time to shake some action.
  19. I thought of Nishioka too! I also had high hopes for him. But I think he was injured the second week in the season (some sort of freak play where another player was sliding into him at second base) and when he returned he just never looked good. But I enjoyed this article. Brought back memories of players such as Jordan Shafer (not to mention Floriman and Colabello!) that I hadn't thought about in years.
  20. Any Astudillo sightings? Last I heard he was playing in Venezuela last season.
  21. I can't see him back in the majors again at this point. He got shelled in another brief appearance yesterday. Too bad, I was pulling for him.
  22. Gonzalez has turned into a legit prospect. Who cares if he doesn't put up power numbers. He can hit and isn't a strikeout machine. Man, get him into the lineup ASAP.
  23. If we can beat the Yankees like this during the regular season (or, dare I mention the playoffs) I will be doing the Humpty Dance ALL night long!
  24. Abel absolutely should be on the opening day roster. I hope the Twins quit playing games by sending players down just because they have options left. Let the better talent stay and play.
