    It’s amazing that we can send up Santana, Castro, and Vazquez…and still haven’t gotten to the 9 batter.

    It looked a little low…and MLB tracker had it very low. I guess, who knows. Either way a pitch you define don’t want him going after early in the count…and then, he’s penalized for it. But, all’s well that ends well!

    Yeah…I don’t think it was the strategy back in 1991, either. 1991 Twins averaged 4.79 runs per game. This year 3.41 so far. Projected out, that would be about 225 fewer runs scored over the season than the ‘91 squad. Ouch.

    Today’s players don’t even speak the same language as Billy. Hit behind the runner, sacrifice bunts, productive outs, running the bases aggressively, pitching deep into games??? He’d have assaulted half the roster by now. More than half.

    Scary: the Twins weighted average age for hitters this season is the 7th OLDEST in baseball…and the oldest in the ALC. ON the bright side: we’re near the bottom of the league (fewest) in GiDP this season. I probably put this into the category, “be careful what you wish for”, though.

    Just my opinion, but for me, the players have to perform at a competitive level for the managing to make much of a difference one way or the other. I’m definitely not a Rocco stan, but I don’t think…just in terms of the games themselves…anyone could have managed this group to more than 7 wins at this point.

    40 degrees has come and went. As of right now…1 hour and 23 minutes before game time…it’s 38. Wind Chill at 29 degrees. Although, it may feel a tad better as the game progresses, as the wind is supposed to moderate and the temperature is not supposed to drop much from where it is.

    No mention at all that Wichita snapped a 9-game losing streak? Their pitching has been really bad. Not much better last night, but they salvage the win to get to 2-10.

    If the sole purpose is so that you can DH Jeffers when he’s not catching (not that I agree with that necessity)…then Carmargo needs to be on the active roster for the foreseeable future. Malpractice to put anyone other than Jeffers in the DH spot right now when he isn’t catching. I suspect this to be the case…otherwise he would have caught in place of Vasquez in the last game. Right? Whatever the case, it looks awkward and silly…like most things so far.

    Because Correa and eventually Lewis will come back. The bullpen will get ‘longer’ as Duran, etc. are added. Those 3 just need to be within hailing distance of expectations to make a material difference. Also, some of the other batters are PROBABLY not as bad as they seem right now, as well. The team’s BABiP right now is 251…dead last in the league and 15 points lower than the worst team recorded in 2023. Not saying that that will change drastically…may stay among the bottom of the league…but it’ll improve from 251. (Last year it was 304). Guys like Buxton and Kepler PROBABLY didn’t completely forget how to hit home runs. I suspect their BA’s will remain very low…but that’s never prevented them from supplying some home runs…until this spring. They’ll eventually get their turn playing bad teams. Better is a relative term. Lewis won’t be back for a while yet. But currently they’re on pace to lose 105 games. I thought they’d be 5-10 games over 500 this season. I could still see them…eventually…playing at/near that level. Question is…how deep will the whole get in the meantime? If they play 5 games over in the second half, it won’t matter if they’re 10+ games under heading into it. But…relative to this thread…my point is only that they would at least be more “fun” to follow and watch.

    Encouraging start by Pablo…and against a legit lineup. Any scenario that has the Twins surviving and eventually thriving includes Pablo being consistently good. Maybe this is the start of at least that part of it.

    Is it just me, or does radio not seem like the best way to maximize Lexi’s appeal? Best wishes on the career, though!

    It will definitely get better…but by enough and soon enough to matter? I’m still fairly optimistic there will be some decent-to-good baseball to watch later in the season. Less sure it will be within the context of a playoff push.

    No. In hindsight, there was probably a better argument for it if they had made such a decision early in the offseason…when they decided they weren’t going after anyone to replace Gray (or Maeda). Tough to do in-season as you have to replace the bullpen innings lost, at the same time you’re probably giving up starter innings as you ramp the guy up.

    Thank god for the earlier mound visit…or this could have been a big inning.

    Yes…although, good is a relative term. Many teams are good relative to the Twins right now. Oakland is playing much better than the Twins, as well.
