  1. But those hot stretches have seldom, if ever, come in a season where he’s already played 100 games. They come in the first half or after a long break on the IL. Not that what you suggest would shock me, because as you mention we have seen it many times and he’s definitely capable of doing so. Last year when he played a lot (for him) of games in the first half, he fell off some in the second half but was still good (803 2nd half OPS, 925 1st half). I’d definitely take that..but I imagine that it will get more difficult for him to hold up as each year passes.
  2. I’d just say mediocrity has come to an entire League…the AL. Combined with the fact that 40% of the league gets into the postseason since the introduction of 3 wildcard spots. Yes, Yankees playing a lot of the season with their B team. The National league has been kicking the bejesus out of the AL in interleague…especially the ALC and ALW teams. Phillies came to town having just lost a series to the Cards. They were outside the NL wild card looking in and held a negative run differential. They dismantled the Twins in 3 straight…in Mpls…(except for a 2-out, 2- strike GS that made the last game look close-ish.) Twins now 13-26 against the NL…333 win PCT. Pretty easy argument can be made that the Twins (and probably at least a couple other AL wildcard “contenders”) would be dead last in both the NLC and NLE…and, in fact, the Twins lost both the Mets and Washington series, and were swept by the Reds and Pirates. There ain’t no parity in the NL. In the NL, if you aren’t actually good, you’re SOL.
  3. There are 3 teams in the entire 15-team league that are not in the wild card conversation for that last spot…if that’s what you’re into. And none of them are very good…or even good at all.
  4. I’d say many of the Twins veterans would be fine in the right roster/situation. Larnach, Clemens, Martin, maybe even guys like Caratini and Bell, etc. The problem is that you can’t have an entire daily lineup of average-ish players and expect anything more than average results. One star can’t be counted on, especially ours. You have to pick your spots and try to develop a couple of stars. You have to dip your toe into the unknown to have a chance to break through to something meaningful. And you can’t let the fear that you’ll get worse before you get better (often you do) paralyze you from at least trying to get to actual goodness.
  5. Buxton absent or awful since June 15. There’s a reason. There’s been a reason virtually every single season of his career. And yet it continues to be an excuse for the team struggling down the stretch every single year. Insanity.
  6. And this a team that we worry about where young guys with high upside fit? Even if you’ve been brainwashed into thinking this is a pennant chase, you’d have to admit winning 4 of every 14 probably isn’t going to be enough.
  7. I think there may be legitimate reasons to not call him up soon…but worrying about how he fits or if he immediately makes them better don’t qualify, IMO. This ain’t a pennant chase. Staggering toward the 6th and last seed in the postseason…with no real momentum…alongside no less than 6 other teams, isn’t anything. Maybe Jenkins gives you a spark and momentum, maybe he doesn’t. Does it really matter? At some point you chose to take the risk to move on from the comfortable, the familiar, the safe, the perpetually mediocre…to take a shot at something better than that. Unless, of course, your roster includes a stupid and irrational mess of guys that can only play outfield, and calling Jenkins up only draws more attention to that fact. Then you wait until next year.
  8. I mean IMO there’s definitely reasonable hope that he can become good. But the command challenges are real…been there pretty much all year.
  9. Well…he’ll probably be better than when he hit 106 this year. That’s the way you hope it works.
  10. 21, 7, 0, 7, 23, 83. 106….Innings pitched by Prielipp by year since 2020. If I thought the Twins were in line for anything meaningful, I’d be upset. For now, I’m just happy he remains a somewhat hopeful and healthy option going forward.
  11. I’m not sure, Shelty…but Prielipp might be out of gas.
  12. Almost. 2 out and Kriedler up…don’t mind the attempt at all.
  13. Since June 11 when the TEAM hit low water mark of 8 games under 500…so over 2 months and a third of the season in which they’ve been playing their best baseball (such that it is) in terms of winning pct… Leader in wRC+ : Keaschall; Leader in OPS: Keaschall (both by a pretty good margin) Rank in fWAR…which, like you and most, doesn’t like Keaschall’s defense….1. Lewis, 2. Keaschall Rank in fWAR per game played 1. Jeffers, 2. Lewis, 3. Keaschall, 4. Buxton Shelton would and should be fired if he decided he wasn’t going to play Keaschall as much.
  14. I’d love to see Jenkins up. But he…or anyone else…doesn’t make the club better by taking at-bats from Keaschall. Maybe that’s not what you’re insinuating. If/when, it will be at-bats from Roden, and probably a rotating mix of others.
  15. Early in the year I was worried Keaschall was going to turn into just a guy. It’s been a very long stretch now where his offense has made a very convincing argument to the contrary. He’s been way too valuable to give up on figuring out how and where he goes defensively. I don’t think anyone is questioning he’ll put in the work. Where that gets him defensively we’ll definitely learn in time, because the bat’s going nowhere…except higher in the order.
  16. And still never put Jeffers in the lineup at DH or 1B when Caratini started at catcher. Truly confounding. What was the point?
  17. Or…it sucks that we’re in this division because it gives the organization rationale to continuously and forever set the bar low…while knowing that a large portion of the fast base will swallow the “we’re competing, we’re in it” narrative, which runs from mostly false to completely false depending on the season. It’s a double-edged sword, the ALC.
  18. I think at least in the case of Lewis you’re confusing post frequency with number of posters. I’m guessing 98% of the community is just fine with his 845 OPS across 55 games since his return.
  19. Nice swing on that pitch taking it the other way at 98mph. Bit too much under it.
  20. Jenkins conceivably would have been up many weeks ago if not for the injury. But yeah, now you’re at a point where you might as well wait until the 15th. Getting on base and playing at least average defensive CF/OF would be great. I don’t expect much power for a while. Still, nice to see him turn on that pitch, he’s starting to do a little more of that. The other HR was a wind-aided fairly routine fly ball the left field.
