  1. Not naming names, but if any of these 3 were…for instance…to allow 8 HRs, 12 BB and a 1.029 OPS-against in 22.0 AAA innings pitched, would that eliminate Raya, err I mean…that pitcher…from this list? This hypothetical pitcher (whose “devastating” sweeper may…or may not…have been crushed for 3 home runs tonight)* could definitely PITCH soon, I don’t know that he would HELP soon. But why not. This is where we are. * It was
  2. On the Saints website, they’re promoting tickets for this very long homestand with a photo of Walker Jenkins…he who 1000% will NOT appear during the homestand…the name JENKINS prominently stitched on the back of the jersey as he completes a swing. This is… a) Lazy b) Honest mistake by intern c) Sleazy d) Indication they consider fans ignorant e) Necessary, because the only other available photo is of Rodriguez. f) Necessary, because a photo of Wallner hasn’t been edited yet g) e and f
  3. Is Bryan Acuna nursing an injury in Fort Myers? Because if he’s healthy, he’s getting the non-prospect treatment. 13th in team PA, losing infield innings to at least one 23 year old, and now also to a 25 year old independent league pickup. He’s been there all season, but rarely gets to play back-to-back games. Still 20, repeating A-, but performing relatively well (OPS well above 800, albeit with a very high BABiP), still K’ing a bit too much, but hitting the ball hard and getting BB’s at a high rate. What gives?
  4. Matthews…encouraging…love the ZERO walks. Here we are again, past the quarter pole, and the season is unfolding exactly like ownership and management would have hoped. 1.5 out of the wildcard in a putrid division…and a putrid league…the 6th BEST run differential in the AL. Never mind the actual W/L record or that the absolute ceiling is lower than the floor of the teams that will end up in the postseason…the floor is sufficiently high (given the relative state of competition) to keep this group happy. Groundhogs Day.
  5. Our last two starters have gone a total of 12+ innings. Pretty good by today’s standards.
  6. So frustrating to me to see the 400+ OBP guys Martin and Larnach constantly hitting BEHIND the guy who hits first-AB HR’s about every other game.
  7. Seems like SWR has been around forever…and yet he’s younger than both Festa and Matthews.
  8. Most of the moves make sense to me. Soto still too high for me. 12-15 range makes more sense to me until he’s actually able to pitch at least semi-regularly…and exhibiting health and the assumed upside. Can always move up from there if those things happen. IMO.
  9. Remarkable…fun to watch. It doesn’t go down in the books as a no-hitter, but it’s truly more impressive than a lot of no-hitter’s (excluding perfect games), when you consider the zero walks and number of pitches needed to get 27 outs.
  10. You mean like Hrbek, Gaetti, Gagne, Laudner, Bush, Brunansky, and Viola mostly failed miserably when they were first brought up in the early 80’s? Yeah, that would be dumb.
  11. Too risky! We’re in a dogfight COMPETING for a postseason run in a very tough division…and only 1.5 back in the Wild Card race. Sincerely, (no, really…I’m being sincere) Tom Pohlad
  12. Playing the same positions as Jenkins or Rodriguez is a great recipe for steady employment.
  13. It’s an embarrassment of riches is what it is. The only problem now is for Shelton to figure out how to distribute the oncoming avalanche of save opportunities in a fashion that keeps all these stallions happy.
  14. He’s a high-ceiling 20 year old pitcher that pretty consistently has been able to actually pitch since becoming a pro. (See Charlee Soto.) I’m thinking if that remains the case for another 2-3 years there’s a good chance that the end product will be useful.
  15. Still meaningful stat…you just have to multiply the number of errors a player has been given by some factor (much) greater than 1 to arrive at the ‘actual’ impact. 😉 But, you’re right. It’s a joke. If that play happens in Minnesota the Twins official scorer awards the error…not because it’s the right call…but because it protects the home-town pitcher’s ERA. On the road, it’s a hit to support the home-town batter. Over and over and over. All the money in the sport and they refuse to employ non-partisan, league-assigned official scorers that rotate/travel as do the umpires.
  16. Twins win back-to-back one-run games against Cleveland, man bites dog…and other oddities…
  17. Zero chance he plays short. Zero. The same could be said for Winokur, and during his age-19 season at Fort Myers he committed a lot of errors, but not anywhere close to the rate Young is making them.
  18. Currently there are a handful of org players that have committed as many as 5 errors this season. A slightly smaller handful has committed 6. Brandon Winokur has 7 errors. No one has more than that, except… Quentin Young committed his 13th last night. Yikes. As the saying goes…he better hit.
  19. Holderman is the second best name I can think of for a relief pitcher…right behind Saverman.
  20. We need to teach Funderburk how to play right field so he can catch his breath and we can use him again later. Has been one guy that’s doing decently. Edit: I’m joking. Mostly.
