Nice to see Keaschall hitting the ball hard.

Been at a family event. My picks to click were Wallner and the bullpen. How are they doing?
  4. jkcarew
Well, at least through July anyway. Probably. Hopefully.

But how many RBI would he have if he was batting behind Martin (484 OBP) and Larnach (424) instead in front of them? The bottom of the order has been a complete black hole, except for the recent surge/improvement from Lee. I’m not one to gripe about a lack of RBI, unless the guy is passive with RiSP. That’s not Buxton.

Prielipp encouraging again. You can see how he could be much better even…especially learning how to command his changeup. Still really hasn’t pitched much as a pro.
  7. jkcarew
You would think Buxton would have turned in at least a short list of teams by now as well.

Please leave the firearms in the safe, Tarheel.

I’d rather lose by 3 runs with guys that have a future with the club, a chance of getting better, than lose by 1 or 2 with these guys, I’d rather lose by 15 runs with guys that have a future with the club, a chance of getting better, than lose by 7 with these guys,

2 out and Wallner on deck. The smart play there was for Keaschall to just keep running until someone tags him.

Jenkins more aggressive lately…hitting the ball harder and turning on pitches. To the point he was over-aggressive in his last two at-bats, chasing and striking out, which is rare for him…and will probably continue to be relatively rare. But you love to see him attacking, two of those doubles were rockets.

Nice. We have his struggles narrowed down to…pitchers who throw with one of their hands. Seems like they should be able to work around that. No?

Gotta hand it to Ober. He’s the big engine that can’t…do anything we think he should be able to do…except get people out. Desire and competitiveness is so much easier to relate to than absurd talent.

In 2000 the Twins lost 93 games. They had 24-year olds Eric Milton, Torii Hunter, and David Ortiz (oops)…23 yo AJ Pierzynski and 21 year old Johan Santana (86 ip; 6.49 ERA). They had Cuddyer, Morneau, Neshak, Kubel in the minors and were about to draft Mauer with the number 1 overall pick.

It’s not just the rubes…the fascination with mediocrity is alive and well here on TD. Who cares if turning the page on Wallner…or, literally ANY of the veterans who’ve had time to prove who they are…makes the team marginally worse in the short term??? This goes for the “good” veterans who could return value, as well. Why does winning 75-80 games instead of 60-70 mean anything to anyone? And how can you think (it’s not thinking, it’s hoping) that excellence can ever even possibly occur when mediocrity is the GOAL…Every. Single. Year. Any honest effort to build a team with a high ceiling (mid-market, primarily from prospects and prospect capital) means accepting the risk of a low floor at some point.

You forgot the .292 OBP and 1 stolen base through 28 games played. He’s a real headache for the opposition at the top of the order right now.
  17. jkcarew
He pitches like a rookie. A good one.
  18. jkcarew
    I blame you.
  19. jkcarew
He’s never in his career had an idea where the strike zone is…which is why you should never throw him a pitch over the plate.
  20. jkcarew
Wallner needs to try to be hit by that pitch.

Welcome to 2026, Zebby! Maybe, just needed to rearrange some cargo to right the list.

Mets losers of 15 of their last 17. Twins losers of 9 of their last 10. It’s getting hard to see another win on the remaining schedules of either team, now that they don’t get to face each other.

For the 11th oldest batting roster among the 30 MLB teams…and the oldest in their division. Probably all late bloomers, thankfully!!

Seems there’s a bit of a misconception in some of these and some game review threads that Kaelen Culpepper is tearing it up in AAA. Maybe because of the nice start. Currently 337/402/739…quite pedestrian for the IL. Doesn’t mean I wouldn’t promote him, because…why not. But my offensive expectations would be quite tempered for a while.

In what universe does it make sense at this point to bat Buxton in front of Martin. One has a very high OBP and low power…one has excellent power and a low OBP. (Martin was getting on base at a good rate last year as well…Buxton has low OBP even when he’s ‘good’.) The statistical likelihood of Buxton missing an ‘extra’ PA if/when the lineup flips in the 9th inning doesn’t outweigh this stat line after 26 games: 7 RBI on 10 extra base hits…5 of which were HR. So inefficient. Lee wasn’t very good offensively last year, but he was better last year than he was in his rookie year. Now, he looks like he’s going to be better this year than last. Is he slowly becoming a good hitter? Could be.
