    When expectations are set sufficiently low by payroll and roster construction…say, 10 games under 500 by mid June, then 5 games under gets fans interested, and 500 is enthusiastically celebrated. Even here. The Pohlads are high-fiving themselves at the dinner table. They’ve got this formula perfected.

    Definitely something that will need to be figured out with Culpepper and Houston on the way. Don’t see much urgency on it right now, though. This season should be used to let guys like Keaschall and the younger pitchers play it out to get more data points for future roster construction. If that means moving Keaschall around some…fine.

    Are we to ignore the multiple seasons of injury and underperformance prior to the last couple seasons? There’s a very good reason he and his agent grabbed the “discount”. 2022 and 2023 were washes. In ‘23…the one and only season the club was good enough to win a postseason series…he produced exactly nothing in the effort. 2024 he missed 60 games. It’s paid off the last two season big-time. He’s having a great season on the heals of a very good season. Unfortunately, it’s wasted on this club. If I were him, I’d seek a trade to a team with a real chance this year and over the next couple of years. He doesn’t owe this organization anything. Personally, I’d love to see him legitimately play for a championship…much more fun if it was for the Twins,,,but would still be fun.

    I don’t necessarily focus on the HR’s when it comes to Lewis. First and foremost, he needs to hit the ball hard with way more consistency than he was. He’ll hit HR’s, but let’s have more singles and doubles between the HR’s. He was putting way too many balls in play with soft contact…mainly to the pull side. To me, it had a lot to do with him refusing to give in in certain situations and take what the pitcher was giving him. If he wants to pull everything…fine,…Buxton pulls balls on the outer half with pretty consistent hard contact, even fastballs that are well out in the outer half of the zone. But it’s a pretty unique ability, without making yourself vulnerable inside…and don’t know if that’s sustainable for Lewis. Having said that, if he can at least eliminate those attempts on pitches that are OFF the plate outside, there could be real improvement. Too early for me to say he’s fixed, but the recent results are sure good to see.

    Always overrated as a prospect IMO, due to the low floor and significant chance of flameout represented by the approach. Made worse by the constantly interrupted development. The ceiling isn’t any lower than it always was, but such a fine line, and now there’s less time for him to find something near it. Basically needs to look functional as a major leaguer by second half of next year or it will be painful for the club to retain him beyond that.

    Looking for a HR in that situation rather than a single or a walk, and Caratini has…(checks stats)…never mind.

    Tomorrow is another day, but unfortunately for the afternoon-challenged Twins it’s another day game. When you’re also below 500 in night games, I don’t really think 14-20 or 14-21 in day games is really a thing. It’s not like “except for day games, they’re good!”.

    I think making sure Buxton minimizes PA with RiSP is something this lineup can accomplish, no matter where he bats in the order.😉

    To be precise, negative value of -0.4 bWAR. The only thing that will sink a team faster than regularly playing a guy with zero defensive value/flexibility and an OPS+ of 79…is also regularly putting him in the 3, 4, 5 spots in the batting order. To be fair to Bell, he’s far from being our only negative WAR regular.

    To be fair, Schwarber’s a high-ish OBP guy as well, who takes way more BB…and the Philly’s have Harper to follow him. Buxton not at all a high OBP/BB guy, has nothing reliable in terms of power behind him. It doesn’t help that the only “good” OBP guys on the team (Larnach and Martin) are currently slumping. Admittedly, there are a dearth of options for Shelton, but even he has given in and moved Buxton to the 2 spot. The % of solo HR’s, and RBI numbers speak for themselves. You gotta try something different. Shouldn’t hurt his runs scored, he’s only scored 25 runs that weren’t driven in by himself.

    If they start this game on time, I see Ryan pitching 2 innings then getting shut down during rain delay. Hope I’m wrong.

    None of these three are on my “get rid of” list for different reasons. Wallner…he’d return little to nothing right now. See what happens this year…or at least until Jenkins and/or Rodriguez force the issue. Even with the Twins he wouldn’t be taking at-bats from Rodriguez or Jenkins YET and he can always go back to (or remain at) St Paul. But yes, the clock is ticking on his 40-man spot. Clemens…I wouldn’t be crushed if they sold high on him. But he is one guy that could actually be useful as a super utility guy on a decent/good team. I guess it’s a matter of how soon you think you can get to decent. Keaschall…no problem sending him down to work on things and build the confidence. But you have to replace him with Culpepper, not some journeyman you signed to a minor league contract off waivers.

    It’s a long season, and developing young/inexperienced players at the major league level is always painful…with the ups and especially the downs applified. But the situation is what it is, and we should see more, not less, of that this year and next. It’s one thing to see guys like Keaschall regress…you need to find out what you have in him…it’s completely different when it’s happening with the veterans (of which there are many) who have proven that they’re incapable of being needle movers. Moving on usually means the ride will be even bumpier. But you HAVE to do it. PLEASE.

    Wichita kinda got shorted this year in terms of top prospects…most of the top either not there yet, or already at AAA. And boy, does it show. Meanwhile, the Twins must lead the universe in minor league free agent and independent league signings…and then playing them down a level (or two). Sometimes it’s difficult to comprehend what this organization is doing.

    I want to be convinced. I honestly do. But I’m not. Still trying to pull everything…and I don’t think that’s a strength for him (like you can argue it is for Buxton).

    If we should worry about Hill, then we should be giving up on Soto. It’s June 11 and we’re sitting at 1 inning pitched…and holding (yet again). I don’t think either is true quite yet, but if we use the term worried, I’m infinitely more so regarding Soto than I am Hill.
