  1. Congratulations to you and your partner, Nick. Also this has been such a fun regular season from the Twins. It far exceeded any expectations I had coming in, and while I hope they finish with a bang and win it all, I am prepared for that not happening, in part due to the late injury bug.
  2. Reading through this thread I'm surprised by the number of people that are mad at Pineda. I would not be surprised if over 50% of MLB players are using PEDs and trying to mask them. As Twins fans we benefitted from the bounce back season big Mike had. He was becoming one of my favorite players and I would still be happy if the Twins tried to resign him.
  3. Agreed that it was a great team win and fun to see some Kepler get the big clutch hit. I was worried that they would end up with 14 hits and only 2 runs to show for it. What do people think Wade's ceiling is? Is a high obp with the ability to steal some bases? Defensively he has looked pretty good in limited duty.
  4. This is one of the most important parts of September if the Twins make the playoffs. Hopefully Thorpe or Smetlzer will make the most of this opportunity and improve the SP for the playoffs.
  5. I'd love to see them go the six or seven starters route (Smeltzer or Thorpe) in September or have those two guys step in and skip starts for the others. If either of them looks really good why not consider them as playoff starters. The rotation as it stands right now does not seem capable of playoff magic.
  6. When the Twins last faced Giolito at US Cellular they hit him early and hard. Hoping for a second helping of that.
  7. On pitching it really depends who is performing well over the next five weeks. If Smetlzer gets hot and has a string of quality starts I would have no problem with him being one of the playoff starters. For the bench I wish there was a fast pinch runner/stellar defensive replacement player available. I'm guessing Cave would probably be the closest thing to that at this time.
  8. Realize I jumped the gun on Larnach possibly being ready to replace Cave on the Twins roster. Cave has been a big contributer over the past five games or so and Larnach needs one more season. Who will get that 40th spot on the roster?
  9. Would Adrianza spelling Polanco two games a week at short be alright for a little while. I have a feeling that some of the players (Kepler and Polanco especially) have hit the wall a little bit and could use a few days. Unfortunately there doesn't seem to be anyone that can give Kepler a break.
  10. Yes I think tonight is make or break for Perez. If he struggles early I hope he is pulled for Smeltzer who will take his place in the rotation moving Perez into the bullpen where I think he could add value.
  11. The Cleve's relay to get Ehire at home was exceptional. I thought sending him was the right call at first until I saw that 3B coach could already see stellar play and throw by LF and ball coming into all star Lindor's glove when he waved him home. Even with Schoop due up next, you have to hold him.
  12. Exactly. It sounds like those that are more in tune to Larnach's development think he's still not ready. He is 22 and looked so good last year in the College WS. Larnach is the same age as Kubel was when he got the callup.
  13. If it looks like Buck's injury is going to extend into mid September, Cave is still struggling a week from now, and Larnach is still crushing, I would like to see the Twins go bold and give the young man a chance. Often times teams that have a magical post season run have a rookie making a big impact. The Twins already have Arraez, but why not go with a player with a much better bat and maybe similar defensive capabilities?
  14. If Buxton injury heads into September and Cave is still not providing much offense, would Larnach be considered for a Sep callup? The guy seems pretty seasoned to me from his college career and full year in the minors.
  15. To the poster that suggested that the Twins trade Eddie, I think that is a reasonable option considering the options waiting in AA. But he is a fan favorite and a lot folks including people look at him as a confident guy (sometimes too confident when catching fly balls) who gives the team a little moxie. I think the outfield when healthy is on the plus side for defense and finally this year the offense has come to life.
  16. It just goes to show how better the Twins roster and farm system is now compared to five years ago when guys like Arcia and Vargas were given so many chances at the MLB level. I think Davis and Diaz both are better prospects.
  17. Really looked like the Marlins knew what was coming and what to lay off of. Were the signals simplified (and stolen) or was it just a matter of not executing pitches for Dyson?
  18. It will be a tough task for sure, but remember how impossible it seemed in 2002 that the young Twins could compete or even beat the A's star rotation of Mulder, Zito, Hudson? Those three were stars at the time
  19. I also think Perez's stuff could play really nicely out of the pen (if his attitude is good about it).
  20. How would others rank the starters that could be available both in terms of short term needs and long term. For me I would rank Bumgarner as the best option for helping the Twins go deep this year followed by Greinke, Stroman, Boyd, and then Syndergaard. For longer outlook, I would go with Boyd, Stroman, Syndergaard, and Greinke.
  21. I would rather see them add a starter, move Perez to pen, and keep working with the young three that have shown promise (Stashak, Thorpe, and Smeltzer). I hate the idea of trade away young talent for BP arms.
  22. Thank you for breaking this down! I was wondering what we have in terms of CF depth in case we continue to see issues with Buxton staying healthy. How far away is Gabriel Maciel and is there anyone that could be called up this year to provide better defense and maybe be a spark in case Buxton's injury extends?
  23. I agree that Buxton being out likely cost the team several runs and possibly a win or two since the all star break. Especially with Rosario hobbled in left field it just creates a lot of area for balls to drop in. Hats off to Stashak, Thorpe and Smeltzer as they all performed really well. I would rather see the team target a starter (even a rental like Bumgarner) who has a chance of going seven innings down the stretch or in the postseason over bullpen arms. I feel like the rookies above or maybe Perez can improve the pen. What I would like is an arm that could possibly throw 20 quality innings in a 7 game series at this point.
