  1. That's quite a duplicitous standard you're holding, as you routinely mention how Ryan has failed horribly as a GM because he never won a World Series... Yet he made the postseason many times over a ten year period.
  2. Yeah, if Prince died from an OD, it completely invalidates his multiple disciplinary talent, gender-bending progressive nature, rise from the poorest neighborhood of the area, and his 1980s push to get women into prominent musical roles.
  3. Eh, I don't know about "every player over 25"... But I'd start exploring trades of guys who have minor league depth behind them: Dozier, Arcia, Plouffe, the entire rotation.
  4. I hate the way this team has performed (and many of the mistakes that led us here) but it's more than a little ironic that you chose to point out Houston, a team also rocking a 6-14 record. They also started their "rebuild" one full season before the Twins.
  5. Sano has a higher OPS than Mauer over the past 14 days but okay.
  6. Intentionally walking Joe Mauer to face Sano. Tis a strange world we live in, this 2016.
  7. You can't repromote a player for 14 days... Though there may be an injury exception, I can't recall.
  8. Bah, nobody from South America is Christian. I don't know where you get these silly ideas.
  9. Don't get me wrong, I can't stand Nolasco. I'd love to ship him off the team yesterday. But his ST stats only tell a fraction of the story. Everyone who I heard from on-site said he was dealing and his pitches were working.
  10. I got off the bus a few stops early this morning and rolled by First Ave a bit before 7am. There were still over 100 people lingering about, left over from last night. Outside of the people gathered around First Ave, downtown was mostly empty... I'm blaring Purple Rain through my headphones, looking at the worn-out crowd. I damned near lost it right then and there in the street. So, no. It's not just you.
  11. Yes. Spring Training stats simultaneously matter and don't matter... It's all dependent on what the pitcher is attempting to do in his tune-up starts. Some are just throwing fastballs to get back into a rhythm. Others are working on a new pitch or refining an old one. Some are laying it all out there to earn a spot. But what always matter are the out-of-game sessions most of us don't get to see. That's what managers and front offices examine when making a decision and, as fans, we're often firing shots in the dark by watching two innings of a guy pitch and then making a snap decision based on (at best) limited information. It's why I generally don't get too riled up about Opening Day rosters. Outside of fringe WTF cases like Jason Bartlett playing the OF, we simply don't have enough data to make an informed decision.
  12. Things have turned on their head in the past week. John Ryan Murphy, famed slugger from the first week of the season, has wilted under the bright lights of the Big Show, collecting only a single hit in the last seven days. Meanwhile, Aaron Hicks has crushed the Big Apple with his laser-focused eye at the plate, collecting both a hit and a walk. When combined with his stellar defense and 194mph rocket arm in center, he's nearly back to replacement level. Watch out New York, there's a new Sheriff in town and his name is Aaron ****ing Hicks. John Ryan Murphy: .077 .111 .115 .226, -36 OPS+, -0.2 WAR Aaron Hicks: .095 .174 .095 .269, -20 OPS+, -0.2 WAR Our winner, wearing the white trunks with black piping: http://d3k2oh6evki4b7.cloudfront.net/req/201604090/images/headshots/b/b5cb7a54_mlbam.jpg
  13. That's the direction I'm leaning as well. I hoped Milone would be offloaded last winter but oh well, that didn't happen.
  14. I think that entirely depends where the Twins sit in the standings in July. If the team is a fringe contender and Nolasco is fronting the rotation, he probably won't be traded... And I'm okay with that. I'm more interested in wins today than prospects tomorrow and I suspect Ryan feels the same way. If the Twins are out of contention and Nolasco is performing, it's a no-brainer trade, IMO.
  15. Yeah, as much as I didn't want to see Nolasco in the rotation heading into ST, I begrudgingly admit he earned his spot... Half of that was due to Duffey's bad showing but still, Ricky did what he needed to do.
  16. Is Milone out of options? I think he is but with so many Twins players out of options this season, I lost track.
  17. How is using your best relievers in a tie game at home bad managing? That's not only common practice, it's common sense. Get the outs, try to win in the bottom of the inning. At home, you work the pen backwards from the ninth inning onward.
  18. Nope. It's a Doodle for Prince.
  19. If Joe wins another batting title, he's a lock. If Joe has 2-3 more .300 batting average seasons, he's a lock. Right now, he's a maybe.
  20. Is anyone hitting up First Avenue for the block party tonight? Today has been rough. I didn't expect this to hit me even half as hard as it did. Every time my phone rings - its ringtone has been Purple Rain for years - I wince.
  21. I'd take another nine game losing streak and Prince 1,000 times over. Man, I'm just so ****ing bummed about today.
  22. Nolasco gives up 14 runs and then retires 28 consecutive batters. Twins win 15-14 in nine innings.
