  1. There could be a few legit reasons to do this - family emergency, for example - but I can't say I'm fond of the idea of a professional athlete betting against himself if he doesn't need the cash.
  2. That'd be good for his ninth RBI if he played for the Twins.
  3. The Twins need minor league rotation depth. That's all it is.
  4. I eagerly anticipate his appearance in a 2025 30 for 30 special on broke former athletes. Sheesh. Duffey signed for $267k and earned about $250k last season in a partial year. He shouldn't be hurting for money.
  5. I assume we're under delay? I just flipped on game and it's a perpetual commercial break. Though it's not raining at my house 3-4 miles from TF.
  6. I'm floored. This is easily the most unlikable ticket of my lifetime. If only allowed one swing, I don't know which one I'd punch in the face first.
  7. Dunno, it's going to take real effort to top the Bush/Cheney ticket in the evil department. I don't believe Bush was "evil" per se... But whatever he lacked, Cheney made up for several times over.
  8. And we've seen this anomaly's sustainability in action. About two weeks ago, the Twins' OPS had over a 500 point difference between bases empty and men on base (something like .850 to .350, it was absurd). Today, that gulf has narrowed to 180 points (roughly .780 to .590) because those two numbers inevitably mirror one another when given enough data points. I expect the two numbers to be virtually identical a month from now.
  9. This is pretty much my take on the situation as well. There are guys who underperform with men on base - Arcia might be a good example, as he routinely swings out of his shoes in some PAs - but there are few, if any, players who overperform in those situations. Though there are a few guys like Molitor, who had around a .050 higher OPS with RISP... But he's a statistical anomaly, especially for a guy with his number of career PAs. Anyway, there is little indication individual players can be clutch... But, as far as I know, there is absolutely no indication an entire team can sustain cluth/unclutch performance.
  10. The number is third. I only glanced over the other teams' stats but I'm pretty sure the percentage is first.
  11. Well, yeah, the team's triple slash is terrible with men on base but that's almost surely unsustainable. I've never seen data points showing the ability of a team to be cluth/unclutch but I've seen many comparisons showing the exact opposite. It's a weird situation with no real explanation. The A's also have a similar split in 2016... 22 homers, 18 with the bases empty. But the A's are also a terrible on-base team, a distant last in the AL this season.
  12. I agree the comparison doesn't really work. The two teams could end up at the same point if Meyer/May dominate but that doesn't mean the path taken is the same.
  13. I've been following this stat for a couple of weeks now and it's kinda fascinating. The Twins are fourth in the AL with a .315 on-base percentage. The Twins are tenth in the AL with 19 home runs. The Twins are third in the AL with 16 bases empty home runs. Bizarre.
  14. Not nit-picking your argument but the Royals are actually rather mediocre when it comes to OBP. If they're emphasizing getting on base, they're doing a rather bad job of it.
  15. Actually, many of us were terrified the Twins might release Arcia. But yeah, pretty much everybody hates Nolasco.
  16. No, I don't think anyone forgot his struggles last season but many of us remember how he flat-out dominated AAA the year before. For whatever reason, he stumbled last season. Well, he hasn't stumbled this season... And given how he has logged ~240 innings in Rochester and is 26 years old, it's not the worst idea in the world to give him a shot and see what happens. After all, the Twins are currently 7-14. If they want to compete this season, they're going to need something more than mediocrity... And Meyer, while a bit of an enigma, is certainly capable of "more than mediocrity". Inversely, he's also capable of being absolutely terrible. But that's a roll of the dice I'm willing to take. Meyer could be worth 2-3 wins more than Milone all by himself.
  17. I know you didn't say that and MY POINT was that ~50 PAs shouldn't influence the outlook of a player. Because, as we've seen, just 30 PAs can drastically alter whether a player is "struggling". I went rather in-depth earlier in the thread and pointed out that Brian Dozier - outside of an unsustainable flyball rate - was doing exactly the same thing he has in his career. Outside of the results - which we all know are prone to fluctuation for a variety of reasons - Brian Dozier was basically the same guy in early 2016 that he was in the aggregate of 2013-2015. And besides, I didn't even quote you in this thread. You weren't the only person participating in the conversation.
  18. DID I SPECIFY? STOP STRAWMANNING MY ARGUMENT.
  19. Lots of knee-jerk stuff happening over the past few months, hard to argue with that... But overall, I haven't had a big problem with how the Twins handled Meyer. He was flat-out awful last year and going to the pen was probably the right call, as was putting him back in the rotation to start the season. As for the current situation, I'll give it a week or two before drawing a conclusion. If the Twins let Meyer rot on the bench, that's... just illogical. If they give him a significant bullpen role, I won't like it much but I'll understand the thinking behind it. If they find a way to get him into the rotation, I'll be a big fan of the move.
  20. Or maybe it's Drunken Kung-Fu, lulling opponents into a false sense of security and/or confusion.
  21. Twins Daily is going to get whiplash if people keep jumping on and off the Meyer bandwagon with such vigor. But I agree that he should get another chance to start. I don't really understand anything that's happening this season. It all seems so haphazard.
  22. Yeesh. I've never understood the thinking that leads to the banning of music, film, or literature. Life experiences happen. People create art about those life experiences. They're important to acknowledge and acknowledgement/appreciation of struggle is not synonymous with acceptance of that lifestyle. Yeesh.
