  1. Dozier now has an .889 OPS over the last seven days and a .744 OPS over the last 14 days. SSS but that's how this works when we put too much stock in ~50 PAs. Dozier had basically the same arc last season as well. Like I pointed out earlier in the thread, his peripherals - outside of flyballs - were all in line with his career norms. If he was struggling for a real reason, it was manifesting in a very odd manner because the underlying stats didn't show any kind of regression.
  2. It's kind of ridiculous they're trying it at all. Sano's OPS for the past 14 days is around 1.000.
  3. You'd think he would have learned his lesson after the Lusitania.
  4. Fien is rolling. Gotta go with the lukewarm hand.
  5. FIEN IS OKAY ONE MIGHT EVEN SAY FINE
  6. OUR SAVIOR HAS COME INTO THE GAME
  7. I've actually heard this story before... Was it mentioned in Ken Burns' documentary? I can't think where else I may have heard it.
  8. Equal pay for equal work? Don't tell me what to do with my body? I don't know, I give up.
  9. Stuart's start is promising but he's not the type of guy you rush to the majors... You let that guy simmer and see if he's for real, then you promote and cross your fingers.
  10. Actually, Garza struggled for nine starts in his rookie season and then went on to post a solid half-season the following year. Then he was traded.
  11. Still super-bummed about this and have been playing Purple Rain (amongst other albums) on a loop for the past several days but managed to work out some of the grief by painting this last night. It was therapeutic.
  12. I think "belly up" is a pretty generous way to frame the Twins' road play this season.
  13. I'm no fan of the Sano to OF move but I'm also no fan of building a false narrative to suit an argument. Miguel Sano has an OPS+ of 118. It's April 26th.
  14. Yep. I was advocating a less aggressive approach to the bullpen than many (I wanted one guy, not 2-3) but that's quibbling over details, not a real disagreement over the problem. But now that Perkins is out and May/Jepsen have been shaky, we're seeing the worst-case situation play out. I don't believe in basing acquisitions on a worst-case scenario but I also don't believe in basing acquisitions on a best-case scenario, either... And that's what Ryan seemed to do this offseason.
  15. It wasn't necessarily a *bad* move but it was certainly questionable. Mauer has a higher chance of moderate success in that situation (walk, single) but Sano has the higher chance of "you just lost the game because I hit the ball 600 feet" success. It was a dicey move to pitch to either guy but I would have probably taken my chances with Mauer driving in a run or two over Sano possibly driving in 3-4 runs (can't remember if the bases were juiced or whether two guys were on base).
  16. While I agree the Cubs didn't put a number on Bryant's "development time", they shuffled him off to AAA for 300 PAs before promoting him to Chicago. That's a luxury Buxton didn't receive and obviously, it's development Byron could use.
  17. He's so smart. He knows baseball. Yet... Yet... Damn, I just don't get it.
  18. The offense was brutal with RISP and men on base, not necessarily brutal overall. The Twins, given their current stats, should be between around 8-12 or 9-11. The problem hasn't been as much "performance" as it has been "timing". And I don't think the Twins are a good enough team to start out the season at a 3-4 game disadvantage and make it up in the following 140-ish games. I think they're a mediocre team, slotted to win 81-83 and maybe with a dose of luck, sneak into the postseason... Well, they got a big dose of anti-luck and I don't believe they're good enough to overcome that hurdle.
  19. FIFY. This is kinda amazing. Even Bowie didn't see this kind of outpouring.
  20. Yet now Houston has regressed to the point where a postseason appearance is extremely unlikely... Maybe even more unlikely than the Twins' chances of making the postseason. So maybe their rebuild wasn't so stupendously awesome... Or maybe it's early and we shouldn't throw too many stones at anyone.
  21. So we're applying a sliding scale, I see. They're not my rules. I applaud Houston for making the postseason in 2015, just as I applauded the Twins for making the postseason many times from 2002-2010. But if a standard holds for one team, it holds for the other 29 as well.
  22. I like Arcia, I like him a lot... But on a team with what seems like 20 DH/1B/bad OF types, he's somewhat expendable. But I wouldn't trade him until his stock reestablishes itself and I wouldn't bend over backwards to trade him at all. But in an org with Buxton, Rosario (also a trade possibility), Kepler, Mauer, Park, and Sano... It's hard to fit in another non-athletic guy anywhere on the diamond.
