Long Season

As I sit here tonight not being able to watch a game (haven't really cared if I do or if I don't lately... sad). I'm just thinking about how long the last several seasons have been. The losing amplifies the frustrating moves or the frustrating players. Man I wish for meaningful baseball again.

Could you imagine being Pittsburgh and what they've gone through? It's hard to do. Back when we were in the playoff mix I was always heavily invested and I was never one of those fans who wanted to trade that for a one-year, all-in season. Given me pennant races and the promise of the playoffs every time.

I miss the hell out of it.

I think it's time to turn on the Royals game and root for them. Just imagine their players in Twins uniforms... and picture Buxton stealing a HR in CF, and Sano belting a walk-off grand slam...

I don't know how old you guys are, but these down seasons aren't exactly a rarity to this franchise. Most of the 70s and early 80s were tough. The 90s, after 1992, were brutal. At that time, the only choice when you had a bad team was to basically tune them out. There really wasn't a way to look to the future, because it wasn't like there was any coverage of the minor leagues. As tough as it has been, it's a hell of a lot better than it used to be.

I can't speak to the 70s and 80s, but as bad as the mid-90s were, I always thought there were at least some things to hold on to that made the losing slightly more acceptable.

It might just be me, but I feel like these last two seasons have been far more bleak and un-entertaining.

I'm just sitting cheering for Frankie. Up 5-0 after 5.

The best thing about the Twins being bad is that I've watch a lot more baseball from other teams.

I didn't sulk through those years John. I'm much younger (cooler too?), born in 85'. I grew up on Kirby Puckett and Chuck Knoblauch. My favorite baseball memory as a kid was asking Chuck how old his glove was and why it was so little. We had a regular 5 minute convo while he was warming up by left field in the dome.

Baseball season just feels like it has gone through the motions. Not too long ago I probably watched almost 100 games a year, never wanting to miss a game. Passionate Baseball fans I feel are different from any other fan. We stay through the tough spots and find any silver lining to cling to, value and keeps us watching. I can't wait until we get to have 10 page threads of playoff rosters and pulling Joe Nathan too early/not early enough. Those are fun. Only a month and a half left, and we get to do this all over again.

John, I agree it's much better than the days of yore. I think that's why some of us appreciate how quickly the current rebuild is progressing. If you dwell on a small enough picture, it's always going to look bleak during a rebuild. Ryan hasn't even been back in charge 2 years, and many of the national experts are already predicting an early turnaround.

I remember the 70s and early 80s too. The big excitement then was not the team but the new stadium. And of course there was a lot of grumbling about owners who only cared about money.

The more things change...

And the Senators (before they became the Twins) lost over 90 games each season from 1955-1959. Five years!

(OK, I don't really remember those years. Had to post it, though.)

On a side note, it is possible to follow a playoff run that is Twins-related. Rochester is currently 2 games up on the division title and 2.5 games up on a wildcard. I find myself following their games on Gameday and eagerly looking forward to the scores each night.

Rooting for Escobar, Parmelee, Diamond, Walters - it's almost like I'm rooting for the Twins again.

MiLB.tv is $10 for the rest of the season. With archived games, you could binge-watch Twins prospects like a Sapranos marathon. Does that help?
