Twins Release Cody Laweryson

The Twins have released RHP Cody Laweryson. He was designated for assignment on August 1 after the Twins needed room on the 40-man roster after acquiring A.J. Minter to bolster the bullpen.

Laweryson made 15 appearances with the Twins this season, throwing 16 2/3 innings, recording 18 strikeouts and eight walks. He's recorded a 4.86 ERA and a slightly worse 5.08 FIP along with a 1.380 WHIP.  He made his major league debut in 2025 and was DFAed during the offseason. He was claimed by the Angels, but the Twins brought him back in mid-February.

He has also made eight relief appearances with Triple-A St. Paul, throwing nine innings, with eight strikeouts and three walks.

Laweryson will now look for his next opportunity, whether that be re-signing with the Twins or taking a new opportunity elsewhere.

He was always a borderline arm.  Honestly his results were surprising to me even if they weren't that great this year.  I still think he could make the back end of a pen, but would like the Twins to look for more power arms versus what Cody brings.

If I were him I would try and get to a  rebuilding team or a team in need of pen arms.  I wouldn't mind having him back in the system, but don't feel like he is the future pen arm for this team moving forward.
