PatPfund Verified Member Posted March 25 Posted March 25 They'd probably sell more tickets embracing the rebuild; the Opening Day roster is laden with marginal MLB talent (Larnach, Outman, Gray, Clemens half the relief staff) "blocking" upside youth (Emma and Roden ready now, Culpepper and Gonzalez maybe after a month of AAA at SS and 1B, Prielipp after MLB meltdowns create a void). Losing isn't fun, but watching off-the-charts athletes compete always comes with 'can you believe he did that!' possibilities. The Twins are starting the year (by choice) with too many of those types of players in St Paul. (Should make for fun Saints games, though!)

Vegas is not setting lines where they think the results will be. They are setting the lines where they think they will get equal money on both sides. Getting equal money on both sides means setting the lines where the betting public thinks the results will be. Whether their opinion is worthwhile depends whether it's more smart money (sharps/pro bettors) or dumb money (casual bettors/fans).

If you're a baseball fan and you can't find at least a handful of things to be excited about on your team's opening day, then I think you're either just being stubbornly negative, or your baseline expectations as a sports fan are too high.
