I'm guessing they believed in McCarthy, and after seeing him, don't. It happens all the time, just this is a QB and the GM sucked at drafting, so it's BIG.

I think they panicked after not being able to trade for Maye and it's possible that Penix might have been their backup plan. No one thought he would gone before #10 or #11.

Not sure I'm happy there either.  Penix has the knees of a 70 year old.

Stefanski is gonna be quick to move on from him too. The 2024 draft wasn’t gonna go 6 for 6 on 1st round QB hits. McCarthy and Penix look like the early busts of that class.
