It was going to be nearly impossible for McCarthy to step in tonight and do well. But you’ve got to be able to handle the offense and get the plays off. That’s not negotiable

I was told he wasn't really a rookie and he learned everything last year.... That I should expect a good QB.

You wonder if they would have brought Darnold back had he not utterly collapsed those final two games (not an endorsement of him, just wondering aloud). With McCarthy as backup and he could have gotten some real game action when healthy
