This is a lesson in relievers being the kings of SSS Jax is now pitching scared. Blew the first one in the 9th, next one by throwing the ball away and now it's in his head wondering if he can do anything right.

Jax is single-handedly Paganing April. You can’t blame Baldeli for this loss. What I would expect is Jax to be moved out of any close/pressure situations. This is a game you have to win when trying to claw back to .500. Jax has been unreliable all year, not a Rocco problem unless he keeps running him out in the 8th…. Not many options though.

Per your breakdown, he’s had 5 out of 9 appearances with a 0. 2 appearances 1.2 IP 2 earned runs. Then the last 2 disaster appearances 1.1 IP 7 ER. Ive got no issue getting him back on track with a mop up appearance or 2, but he will be back to performing like we’ve seen the last 2 seasons. Bad example using Dobnak, he actually pitched well after Ober literally puked against the Cardinals, and was then rewarded with a demotion to St. Paul. Per my breakdown, he's getting worse, not better. I hope so, but this team doesn't have the luxury of him not "fixing" it.

They all pitch when they’re up or down by 3+ runs late in the game. The Twins had a 91% winning expectation per Fangraphs when Jax entered the game. He got worse over his last 2 appearances for sure. Short sample size. Jax has plenty of time to fix things. We’re 7-13 and I don’t see a 12 game stretch against the White Sox and 99 loss Angels anytime soon. He needs to build up value to potentially trade him in July once we’re buried in the standings. Mike Sixel 1
