I think four positions is realistic by covering a few off days for Buxton and Correa, but it will be hard to reach 20 at 3B with all the other options there. His last start there was May 16, and he still needs 10. Said another way, I hope he doesn't get another 10 starts at 3B, because that means something's happened to at least two of Miranda, Lee and Lewis. I do hope he gets one more inning at 3B at some point because then he'd have 100+ defensive innings at 5 positions which would be cool, and I'd assume also unprecedented IndianaTwin 1
JD-TWINS Verified Member Posted July 12, 2024 Posted July 12, 2024 I know many here think Vazquez should have made the All-star game…….,JK …,..,am a little surprised that the corresponding move to Farmer going to the IL is Camargo though. I DO know some here have the opinion that Camargo should be our #2 Catcher by jettisoning Vazquez somehow, somewhere. I’m not a huge fan of the idea, less game calling experience by more than a decade and not really any better offense than Vazquez. Camargo has hit .213 in St Paul since his brief stint with the Twins. I’m pretty sure Vazquez could do that or probably a bit better. Am in no hurry to replace Vazquez with Camargo. Curious why he’s been brought in for the Giants Series????? Are one of Jeffers or Vazquez nicked up a bit? With the All-star break coming Monday - it doesn’t add up with a fatigue issue……after having Thursday off - right?

It makes no sense to me....I figured Jeffers was nicked and would get the next three days off, but nope. JD-TWINS 1

It makes no sense to me....I figured Jeffers was nicked and would get the next three days off, but nope. Jeffers is nicked. At least he was during the Chicago series. He was pinch hit for on Monday night and was noticeably limping on Wednesday. If that's still case, it makes sense to bring up Camargo. However, based on past experience, the desire to actually play Camargo is minute. Starting both Vazquez and Jeffers is a way of maximizing right-handed batters. DHing Vazquez allows the opportunity to pinch hit for him. If you DH Jeffers, you can't pinch hit for Vazquez without a) losing the DH by bringing in Jeffers to catch; b) bringing in Camargo's -36 OPS+ (SSS) to catch. See first paragraph. People may not like that. I may not even like that. But there is a defensible explanation. EDIT: Apologies -- I'm way off thread.

Yes, it looked like he was limping a couple times in the past ten days or so. Having Camargo will allow substituting for either Jeffers or Vázquez. the Twins do face two left handed starters from the Giants and then there is the All-Star break. I wouldn't be surprised if Camargo is up for the three days only. IndianaTwin 1
